The Phenomenology Of Panic Disorder In Adolescents, Wesley D Allan
The Phenomenology Of Panic Disorder In Adolescents, Wesley D Allan
UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations
The Phenomenology of Panic Disorder in Adolescents examines correlates of panic disorder in adolescents. Specifically, 20 adolescents with panic disorder were compared with 20 adolescents with a non-panic anxiety disorder (e.g., overanxious disorder). Results showed that adolescents with panic disorder displayed higher levels of anxiety sensitivity (i.e., anxiety pertaining to the symptoms of anxiety such as heart palpitations). Based on the obtained results, anxiety sensitivity is proposed as a potentially critical variable in the examination of adolescent panic disorder.

Integrating The Strengths Of The Web-Based And Traditional Models Of Teaching, T.Y. Leung, Sarah Y.S. Tran
International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) Conference
The Internet has revolutionized the way we communicate and created new paradigms for innovation in education. This paper discusses the pedagogical issues conforming to constructivism that educators may consider in the delivery of instruction in post-secondary vocational education. The roles of both the students and teachers must be redefined in the new paradigm. An intellectually exciting learning experience can happen in a classroom, a laboratory or the cyberspace. The art of combining the strengths of classroom face-to-face teaching and Web-based self-directed instruction will be a challenge to educators. In addition to management support and a fair reward system as drivers …

After an engineering student has finished the studies in a college, he (or she) is prepared to, usually with much enthusiasm and high hopes, embark into a new world to make use of what he has learnt for the betterment of the society and the engineering profession. The pursuit of the “Real”, the “Good”, and the “Beautiful” has been the highest goal. With the dawning of the e-Commerce and “Dot-Com” era, with the IT (Information Technology) heat sweeping through the world and catching everyone by surprise, and with the rapid replacement of traditional materialistic substances by their electronic and cyber …

Discovery Learning Approach To Classic Electrical Machines Principles, S.K. Wong, K.F. Chan, David T.W. Chan
International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) Conference
This paper aims at presenting the concept of Socratic interactions and discovery learning of classic electrical machines principles. The theories of electrical machines are by nature quite boring and abstract although there are a lot of experiments supported the theories. Traditional, students learnt the subject by drill and practice approach with standard textbooks. In the past two decades, computer is no doubt recognized to be the educational tool. The so-called “interactive” approach is applied to the learning process. Most of this approach applied to various subjects in different levels is mainly based on drill and practice. However, few packages are …

Integrating Adult Learning Principles In Web Based Open Learning, Shyamal Majumder
International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) Conference
It is evident that one of the driving forces towards a learning society resides in the role and power of information and communication technology. While the power and potential of technology is clear, the challenges lie in using technology wisely to advance the lifelong skills. The educational arena of web based learning is still in its infancy. While there are many institutions that are offering web based courses for adult learners, an in-depth understanding of the pedagogical issues related to integrating adult learning in web still remains an unexplored frontier. While literature provides some evidence of the effectiveness of using …

Establishing A Virtual Building & Construction Site For Education And Training, John F. Barrett, Brian Wilkins
International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA) Conference
Field trips, site visits and industrial placements can make an important educational contribution by bridging the theory–practice gap through the provision of vital contextual information and the promotion of insights not easily understood in the normal classroom. But, in the Building and Construction industries it is increasingly difficult to arrange actual sites visits. An alternative web site solution is described in this paper. The City University site, the Virtual Building and Construction Environment, is part of a much larger group of sites known as CIVCAL, developed by four Hong Kong universities. Access is provided to three tours, three building sites, …

Background: Clinical investigations have shown prognostic heterogeneity within the non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas (NHLs) according to histology, but few descriptive studies have considered NHLs by subgroup. Our purpose is to assess the demographic patterns and any notable increases in population- based rates of different histologic subgroups of NHL.
Methods: Using data collected by the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program of the National Cancer Institute, we calculated incidence rates for the major clinicopathologic categories of NHL by age, race, sex, geographic area, and time period.
Results: Among the 60 057 NHL cases diagnosed during the period from 1978 through 1995, total incidence …
