The Asthma Epidemic: Prospects For Controlling An Escalating Public Health Crisis, Richard Hegner

National Health Policy Forum

This background paper examines the dimensions of the recent asthma epidemic and what could be done to contain it. Information about the prevalence and consequences of asthma across demographic groups is presented. Factors that impede the control of asthma are also identified. The paper also examines the possible causes of asthma and the asthma epidemic as well as new theories about the relationship of asthma to overall advances in health care and economic development. It also discusses the economic implications of asthma and possible cost avoidances linked to better asthma management. The paper concludes with discussions of asthma and public …

The Political Economy Of Global Multilateralism, John O. Mcginnis

Chicago Journal of International Law

Many conservatives (at the least the subset who are classical liberals) approve of global multilateral trade agreements and allied agreements that keep global capital markets open. Conservatives, however, tend to be openly skeptical of other global multilateral agreements, be they environmental accords, human rights conventions, military pacts, or an agreement on an international criminal court. In this paper I offer the beginnings of a framework of sound political economy that justifies these divergent intuitions and shows that they are rooted in more than just a reflexive liking for trade combined with a disdain for the environment, human rights, criminal justice, …

During the 70s, computer communication technology was transformed by desktop computing and distributed capacity. Networks
based on the TCP/IP protocol (transmission control protocol and Internet protocol) started communicating with one another.
Internet control message protocol, a mechanism to transfer control messages between nodes, was developed to manage ARPANET (the US government's advanced research project networks). ARPANET started in 1969 and developed into the Internet in 1984 with the advent of UNIX and client/ server architecture. Data was transferred between networks in packet form through  switches, routers, bridges, and gateways. From defence, the Internet found its application in educational institutions. Usenet …

Murine Monoclonal Antibodies Specific For Lipopolysaccharide Of Escherichia Coli O26 And O111, Mildred Rivera-Betancourt, James E. Keen

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

Monoclonal antibody (MAb) 12F5 reacted with 35 Escherichia coli O26 isolates and cross-reacted with 1 of 365 non-E. coli O26 isolates. MAb 15C4 reacted with 30 E. coli O111 strains and 8 Salmonella O35 strains (possessing identical O antigen) but not with 362 other bacterial strains. Lipopolysaccharide immunoblots confirmed MAb O-antigen specificity.
