Testing On Computers: A Follow-Up Study Comparing Performance On Computer And On Paper, Michael Russell

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

Russell and Haney (1997) reported that open-ended test items administered on paper may underestimate the achievement of students accustomed to writing on computers. This study builds on Russell and Haney's work by examining the effect of taking open-ended tests on computers and on paper for students with different levels of computer skill. Using items from the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) and the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), this study focuses on language arts, science and math tests administered to eighth grade students. ...

This hermeneutic, qualitative study was undertaken to find out what the lived experience has been for one woman who lost her partner. Hermeneutics is an interpretive approach to looking at everyday experiences and uncovering what is usually hidden from us. Theorists have developed many frameworks to apply to the bereaved person. They try to explain how the loss will affect those who suffer a loss. This study attempted to capture what this experience was like for one bereaved person, what her thoughts and feelings were while living the experience and how this experience has changed her life. This historical thesis analyzed records and archival information regarding feminism in American social work by contrasting two key historical figures, Mary Richmond and Jane Addams who were considered the matriarchs of the social work movement in the earliest part of the 20th century. The study examined the accomplishments of Ms. Addams and Ms. Richmond, their backgrounds and philosophies that helped shape their feminism, beliefs, and political work and the impact it had on social work as a profession. Thermoregulation of the Thorax Allows Honeybees (Apis Mellifera) to Maintain the Flight Muscle Temperatures Necessary to Meet the Power Requirements for Flight and to Remain Active Outside the Hive Across a Wide Range of Air Temperatures (T(A)). to Determine the Heat-Exchange Pathways through Which Flying Honeybees Achieve Thermal Stability, We Measured Body Temperatures and Rates of Carbon Dioxide Production and Water Vapor Loss between T(A) Values of 21 and 45°C for Honeybees Flying in a Respirometry Chamber. Body Temperatures Were Not Significantly Affected by Continuous Flight Duration in the Respirometer, indicating that Flying Bees Were at Thermal Equilibrium. Thorax Temperatures …
