On December 10 and 11, 1998, over 100 scholars, civilian government officials, and military officers from the United States, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Panama and Mexico gathered at the U.S. Army War College to discuss "Landpower and Ambiguous Warfare: The Challenge of Colombia in the 21st Century." While the conference adopted no resolutions or conclusions, it provided a valuable forum for expressing widely differing viewpoints on critical components of Colombia's security situation. The meeting highlighted the urgency of the Colombian crisis and the need for a comprehensive response by Colombia, the United States, and the regional community of nations. Much of …

การแก้ปัญหาการผสมซ้ำในโคนมโดยวิธีล้างมดลูกด้วยน้ำเกลือผสมยาปฏิชีวนะ, สันติ ประสิทธิผล, ปราจีน วีรกุล, จันทร์เพ็ญ สุวิมลธีระบุตร

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาวิธีการชะล้างมดลูกด้วยน้ําเกลือผสมยาปฏิชีวนะอ๊อกซี่เตตร้า ซัยคลิน และผลต่ออัตราการผสมติดหลังการรักษาเปรียบเทียบกับกลุ่มควบคุม พบว่าในฟาร์มโคนมรายย่อย โคนมผสมซ้ำที่ได้รับการรักษาโดยวิธีนี้ สามารถติดตั้งท้องภายหลังการผสมเทียมแล้ว 3 ครั้งมากกว่ากลุ่ม เปรียบเทียบ อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (P<0.05) กล่าวคือ โคกลุ่มรักษา จำนวน 39 ตัว ตั้งท้อง 22 ตัว (56.4%) และโคกลุ่มควบคุม จำนวน 39 ตัว ตั้งท้อง 12 ตัว (30.8%) ผลการทดลองแก้ไขการผสมซ้ำใน ฟาร์มโคนมขนาดใหญ่ พบว่าให้ผลการรักษาได้ดี กล่าวคือในโคนมที่มีปัญหาผสมซ้ำ 12 ใน 19 ตัว (63.2%) พบว่าตั้งท้องภายหลังการรักษาแล้วเฉลี่ย 47 วัน (พิสัย 5-157 วัน) โดย 6 ตัว ติดตั้งท้องจากการผสมครั้งแรก การตรวจแยกเชื้อในมดลูกโคผสมซ้ำ 59 ตัวพบเชื้อแบคทีเรียในโค 48 ตัว (81.4 %) จำนวน 56 strains ส่วนใหญ่เป็นแบคทีเรียที่ไม่ทำให้เกิดโรค (non-pathogenic) และไม่น่าจะเป็นสาเหตุสำคัญของปัญหาการ ผสมซ้ำในโคนม ผลการวิจัยครั้งนี้แสดงว่าการรักษาโคนมที่มีปัญหาผสมซ้ำโดยวิธีการชะล้างมดลูก ด้วยน้ำเกลือผสมยาปฏิชีวนะ สามารถแก้ไขให้โคนั้นติดตั้งท้องได้ดีในระยะเวลาสั้นภายหลังที่ได้รับการผสมเทียม และควรอบรมและส่งเสริมให้เจ้าหน้าที่และนายสัตวแพทย์นำวิธีการนี้ไปปฏิบัติภาคสนาม

การแช่แข็งเอมบริโอสุกรระยะบลาสโตซิสด้วยวิธีวิทริฟิเคชั่น, มงคล เตชะกำพุ, วันเพ็ญ อดุลยานุภาพ, จินดา สิงห์ลอ

เก็บเอมบริโอสุกรระยะบลาสโตซิส (อายุ 6-7 วัน) จำนวน 106 เอมบริโอ จากสุกรสาวที่เหนี่ยวนำ การเป็นสัด โดยแบ่งเอมบริโอตามขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง ออกเป็น 3 กลุ่ม คือ เอมบริโอขนาดเล็ก (100<Ф≤200um) เอมบริโอขนาดกลาง (200<Ф≤400um) และเอมบริโอขนาดใหญ่ (0-400um) นำเอมบริโอที่สมบูรณ์มาทําการ แช่แข็งด้วยวิธีวิทริฟิเคชั่นในน้ำยา VS3a ประเมินผลการแช่แข็งเอมบริโอจากคุณภาพหลังการละลาย โดย แบ่งคุณภาพออกเป็น 3 เกรด คือ เอมบริโอเกรด เอ บี และ ซี พบว่า เอมบริโอขนาดเล็ก กลาง และใหญ่ มีอัตราการเก็บได้ หลังทำละลาย เท่ากับ 93.8% (30/32) 95.1% (39/41) และ 100% (33/33) เฉลี่ยเท่ากับ 96.2%(102/106) และได้เอมบริโอหลังการละลายที่มีคุณภาพดี (เกรด เอ และบี) เท่ากับ 53.3% (16/30) 84.9% (28/33) และ 87.2% (34/39) ตามลำดับ เฉลี่ยเท่ากับ 76.5% (78/102) จากผลการศึกษาพบว่าเอมบริโอขนาดใหญ่และขนาดกลางมีคุณภาพของเอมบริโอหลังการละลายดีกว่าเอมบริโอขนาดเล็ก (P<0.05)

Clinico-Morphological Pattern Of Intracranial Tumors In Children, Sajid H. Shah, Irshad N. Soomro, Akbar S. Hussainy, S H. Hassan

Objective:
The objective of present study was to observe the histopathological pattern of intracranial tumors in children (< 15 yrs) and to correlate the site of lesion along with the histological diagnosis.
Setting:
The study included consecutive cases of intracranial tumors diagnosed in children (< 15 yrs.) in the section of histopathology at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi during the period of three years.
Methods:
The initial histological evaluation of these lesions was performed on H and E stained section of paraffin embedded tissue. Special stains and immunohistochemical analysis was done whenever indicated.
Results:
During the study period, fifty-four cases of intracranial tumors were diagnosed in children. The age ranged from 1-1/2 years to 4 years with male to female ratio of 1.1:1. Astrocytoma comprised 39% of all intracranial tumors of childhood. Medulloblastoma …

Developmental Trajectories Of Disruptive Behavior Problems In Preschool Children Of Adolescent Mothers, Susan J. Spieker, Nancy C. Larson, Steven M. Lewis, Thomas E. Keller, Lewayne D. Gilchrist

School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations

Using hierarchical linear (HLM), we analyzed individual developmental trajectories of disruptive behavior problems between ages 3.5 to 6.0 years for 183 children of adolescent mothers. We examined how the level of problem behavior (intercept) and the rate of change over time (slope) are influenced by child's sex, mother's depression/anxiety symptoms, and mother's use of negative control for regulating child behavior. On average, disruptive behavior decreased from age 3.5 to 6.0. Child sex and maternal depression/anxiety related to the level of behavior problems but not to the rate of change. Liquid-phase catalytic oxidation of oleic acid with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of various transition metal/metal oxide catalysts was studied in a batch autoclave reactor. Azelaic and pelargonic acids are the major reaction products. Tungsten and tantalum and their oxides in supported and unsupported forms were used as catalysts. Alumina pellets and Kieselguhr powder were used as supports for the catalysts. Tungsten, tantalum, molybdenum, zirconium, and niobium were also examined as catalysts. Tertiary butanol was used as solvent. Experimental results concluded that tungsten and tungstic oxide are more suitable catalysts in terms of their activity and selectivity. The rate of …

A field study was conducted in northern Idaho from June to November 1995 to evaluate the design and functional aspects of four types of Radio-transmitters for use on northern pocket gophers (Thomomys talpoides) as well as the effects of the transmitters on behavior of the animals. Twenty-five of 46 northern pocket gophers were fitted in the field with one of three models of radio-collars (AVM, NWRC, and Holohil), nine received Wildlife Materials abdominal implant transmitters (surgery conducted off-site), and 12 without transmitters served as controls. In this paper, we survey procompetitive theories of vertical arrangements, and examine how these theories could be organized to aid interpretation of antitrust law. Given the ever-expanding body of literature in this area, this is a daunting task which we cannot hope to complete in a single article. Nevertheless, we find a market-structure based survey a helpful approach. We have introduced various procompetitive theories in connection with the market structures in which they are likely to be applicable, though we do not claim they could only operate within a specific market context. สุนัขพันธุ์ผสมเพศผู้ อายุ 7 ปี น้ำหนัก 25 กิโลกรัม เข้ารับการรักษาที่โรงพยาบาลสัตว์เล็ก คณะ สัตวแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ด้วยอาการอาเจียนเป็นเลือด มีกลิ่นแอมโมเนียจากปาก ดื่มน้ำมาก ปัสสาวะมาก ซึม เบื่ออาหารและน้ำหนักลด จากการตรวจร่างกายทั่วไปพบอาการบวมน้ำที่ขาหลังทั้ง สองข้าง เยื่อเมือกซีดและอยู่ในสภาพขาดน้ำ ส่งตัวอย่างเลือดตรวจค่าทางโลหิตวิทยาและค่าทางเคมีคลินิก พบภาวะโลหิตจางมีระดับยูเรียและสารประกอบไนโตรเจนในเลือดสูงรวมทั้งระดับครีอาทินินในเลือดสูงกว่าปกติ มีอนินทรีย์ฟอสเฟตในเลือดสูง มีอัลบูมินในเลือดต่ําและมีระดับของค่าโคเลสเตอรอลในเลือดสูง ผลการ ตรวจปัสสาวะทางห้องปฏิบัติการตรวจพบความผิดปกติของไต มีอัตราส่วนระหว่างโปรตีนกับครีอาทินินในปัสสาวะสูงกว่าปกติ ดำเนินการรักษาทางยาร่วมกับการให้สารน้ำพบว่าในระยะแรกสุนัขมีอาการดีขึ้นตามลำดับ สุนัขมีอาการทรุดลงในวันที่ 71 ของการรักษาและเสียชีวิตในเวลาต่อมา จากอาการทางคลินิกร่วมกับผลการ ตรวจทางห้องปฏิบัติการและการชันสูตรซากสุนัขป่วยรายนี้บ่งชี้ถึงกลุ่มอาการโรคไตที่มีภาวะโปรตีนในปัสสาวะ สูงและโปรตีนในเลือดต่ำกว่าปกติร่วมกับมีอาการบวมน้ำเนื่องจากการสะสมของสารอะมัยลอยด์ที่ไต

The air transportation industry requires deicing/anti-icing (ADAF) fluids to maintain flight operations in cold weather conditions. Additives to the ADAF aid in the performance of these agents. Approximately 52M liters of concentrated aircraft deicing fluid are used in North America per year in an attempt to correct this safety problem. Among the additives to ADAF are corrosion inhibitors flame retardants, wetting agents, and thickening agents. Some of these agents are known to be toxic to microorganisms. Identification of the transport processes of these agents in the environment is a necessary first step to understanding how to remediate ADAF. Methyl-Benzotriazole (MeBT) …
