An Invitation To A Side Bet, Shiv Visvanathan
An Invitation To A Side Bet, Shiv Visvanathan
IIMB Management Review
With the grand egalitarian dreams of the 20th century having fizzled out, the world seems marching swiftly to marko-topia. The world of the market is often confused with the world of democracy. Shiv Visvanathan, of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, New Delhi, hauls the modern businessman over the coals for having abdicated his larger humanistic responsibilities. The corporate world must question its notion of justice and the bankruptcy of its moral imagination and repay its debts to the environment that has sustained it.

Perceptions Of Teacher Burnout In Catholic Schools, Barbara L. Brock
Perceptions Of Teacher Burnout In Catholic Schools, Barbara L. Brock
Journal of Catholic Education
This study examines the perceptions of burnout of educators currently employed in Catholic elementary and secondary schools. Data were collected from teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding their perceptions of the auses, symptoms, and prevention of burnout. Results of the study suggest that burnout is largely a symptom of workplace issues that can be identified and corrected. The long-term and destructive effects of teacher burnout warrant the time and financial support needed to improve working conditions for teachers in Catholic schools.

A Two-Year Prospective Study Of Infant Postural Torticollis, Baii-Jia Yang, Hwei-Chu Lin
A Two-Year Prospective Study Of Infant Postural Torticollis, Baii-Jia Yang, Hwei-Chu Lin
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Torticollis is a common physical finding in infants, and congenital muscular torticollis is the most commonly reported type. If the only findings are head tilting and facial asymmetry without limitation of ROM of the neck and lack of pathological change of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, infant postural torticollis is the most likely diagnosis. From June, 1995 to May, 1997 we prospectively studied 211 cases of postural and muscular torticollis and excluded other causes of head tilting. The male to female ratio was 114:97, and left to right side ratio 104:107. 130 cases (61.6%) had infant postural torticollis (Group I), while 81 …

IIMB Management Review
The Indian experience with Outbound Programmes has clearly been a mixed one. With the initial euphoria passing over, managements are beginning to wonder if management development is getting to be more and more like branded potato chips - puffed up and pricey but the same old stuff inside. Indeed there is every possibility of the Outbound Programme going the way of all other bandwagons: into the clearance sale shelves of the management supermarket. Padaki and Venkatesh attempt to demystify Outbound Programmes (OP) and provide guidelines to organisations contemplating OP, on how to prepare for a worthwhile OP experience, what to look for …

Playing The Name Game: A Glimpse At The Future Of The Internet Domain Name System, Rebecca W. Gole
Playing The Name Game: A Glimpse At The Future Of The Internet Domain Name System, Rebecca W. Gole
Federal Communications Law Journal
As the Internet continues to expand into the top global medium for commerce, education, and communication, individuals and businesses are racing to claim their own unique Internet address or domain name. Unlike the three-dimensional world, where many entities may share the same name, on the Internet each domain name must be unique. As a result of this uniqueness requirement, a variety of disputes and trademark issues have arisen as individuals and entities compete for lucrative domain names on the Internet market. These disputes have led to the submission of two proposals for the overhaul of the current domain name system. …
Federal Preemption Of State Universal Service Regulations Under The Telecommunications Act Of 1996, Mark P. Trinchero, Holly Rachel Smith
Federal Preemption Of State Universal Service Regulations Under The Telecommunications Act Of 1996, Mark P. Trinchero, Holly Rachel Smith
Federal Communications Law Journal
With the passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, Congress revamped federal universal service policy by requiring that universal service support be explicit. The Act also provides that states can supplement federal universal service support with state universal service support. However, under section 254(f) of the Act, state programs must not be "inconsistent with" the FCC’s rules for implementing the Federal Plan. Section 254(f) provides for express preemption of state universal service plans but uses FCC rules as a measure for determining when preemption is required. As a result, the case law governing express preemption by Congress is in and …
Betting On The Net: An Analysis Of The Government’S Role In Addressing Internet Gambling, Stevie A. Kish
Betting On The Net: An Analysis Of The Government’S Role In Addressing Internet Gambling, Stevie A. Kish
Federal Communications Law Journal
The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act represents the U.S. Senate’s response to the development of a new online industry—Internet gambling. While this ban could arguably reduce the dangers associated with Internet gambling, such as fraud and addiction, it can only do so by exacting a substantial cost on principles of federalism. Rather than enacting this federal prohibition, Congress should instead leave the issue of whether Internet gambling should be legalized to the states.

Leadership Is Not Found In A Book: The Western Australian Rural Leadership Program, Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia, Western Australia. Fisheries Western Australia
All other publications
In February this year nineteen people from all over Western Australia were brought together to explore their leadership potential. These nineteen people came from different walks of life and professions but they all had a common passion, rural Western Australia, and they all had a common goal - to gain skills so that they could lead this state into a thriving 21 century. Over the six months we grew very close and experienced great highs and lows. Without the support of our family and friends, employers and others we would not have accomplished half of what we have over the …
