Executive Functioning In Preschool Children: Performance On A-Not-B And Other Delayed Response Format Tasks, K. A. Espy, P. M. Kaufmann, M. D. Mcdiarmid, M. L. Glisky

Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory: Faculty Publications

The A-not-B (AB) task has been hypothesized to measure executive/frontal lobe function; however, the developmental and measurement characteristics of this task have not been investigated. The present study examined performance on AB and comparison tasks adapted from developmental and neuroscience literature in 117 1.9-5.5 yr old preschool children. Age significantly predicted performance on AB, Delayed Alternation, Spatial Reversal, Color Reversal, and Self-Control tasks. A 4-factor analytic model best fit task performance data. AB task indices loaded on 2 factors with measures from the Self-Control and Delayed Alternation tasks, respectively. AB indices did not load with those from the reversal tasks …

The Predictive Use Of Event-Related Potentials In Language Development And The Treatment Of Language Disorders, Dennis L. Molfese, Victoria J. Molfese, K. A. Espy

Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory: Faculty Publications

Attempts to relate what is currently known regarding the brain's involvement in language processing during the early years of life. The authors focus on the event related potential (ERP) as a means to study the neuroelectrical correlates of language in the brains of infants and children. After reviewing general information concerning ERPs and language, this presentation relates how neonatal ERP measures of phonetic discrimination predict later language and reading abilities.

Nebraska Business Forecast Council Expects State's Economic Growth To Fall Below Potential, John Austin, Nebraska Business Forest Council Nov 1999

Nebraska Business Forecast Council Expects State's Economic Growth To Fall Below Potential, John Austin, Nebraska Business Forest Council

Business in Nebraska

The Nebraska Business Forecast Council expects that jobs will continue to grow in Nebraska; but, the rate of job growth will slow as labor markets in Nebraska and surrounding states continue to tighten. Nebraska's total nonfarm jobs will grow just under 2 percent in both 1999 and 2000. Total job growth then will slow to 1.6 percent in 2001 (Figure 1).

In addition to restraining job growth, tight labor markets will exert upward pressure on wages. Moderate job growth, combined with increasing wage rates, will yield moderately rapid growth in wages and salaries. Consequently, total nonfarm personal income will increase …

It also looks at the rapid growth in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device research and development and the varying responses from managed care plans, practice-based research networks, and contract research organizations. After laying out various tensions in the field, such as competition among disease-oriented advocates, alignment of different priorities, allocation of dollars between basic and …

Historical Case Study Of Stella L. Wood, Bonnie G. Ostlund

Theses and Graduate Projects

The focus of this historical case study is to examine the life of Stella Louise Wood, an educator recognized for her leadership in public kindergarten and teacher training in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She spearheaded the campaign for free public kindergartens in the city in 1896, and was the leader of its teacher training school for the following fifty-two years. In that time, Stella Wood shared her strong commitment to the youngest students and her dynamic spirit with over 2,500 teacher trainees, known as Miss Wood's girls. She lived to approve a merger of her school with Macalester College in St. Paul, …

Bulletin 4396 - Byenup Hill Focus Catchment Benefit: Cost Analysis, Allan Herbert Nov 1999

Bulletin 4396 - Byenup Hill Focus Catchment Benefit: Cost Analysis, Allan Herbert

Bulletins 4000 -

The main text of this document concentrates on the costs of the proposed strategies, and the on-farm financial benefits from forecast production changes - in particular the production differences between the 'do nothing' and 'with strategy' scenarios.

Members of the catchment group indicated however that their main focus was on preserving their capital base. Hence some discussion of the values of land lost to salt and premiums/discounts for 'landcared' vs 'unlandcared' land appears later in the report. Economics literature suggests that including changes in land values into these analyses is incorrect. It is argued that production differences are actually captured …

Premises Liability: The Disappearance Of The Open And Obvious Doctrine, Ann K. Dittmeier Nov 1999

Premises Liability: The Disappearance Of The Open And Obvious Doctrine, Ann K. Dittmeier

Missouri Law Review

In the past, landowners were sovereign over their land, and they were immune from liability for accidents that occurred on their land.2 One doctrine that reflects this limited liability is the open and obvious rule, which states that landowners have no duty of care to protect someone on their premises from an open and obvious condition The traditional rule has recently been modified in many jurisdictions to disallow a landowner from asserting an open and obvious condition as a complete defense.4 The modified version holds occupiers liable if they reasonably could have anticipated that the invitee would encounter the danger …
