The Development And Implementation Of A Program For The Assimilation Of New Members In The Lexington Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Tim Peterson

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

At the Lexington Seventh-day Adventist Church evangelism is important to church growth. However, better assimilation is needed to keep new members in the church. In the past, many people were baptized, but did not stay active. Therefore, this dissertation is an attempt to meet the needs of those who were baptized after an evangelistic meeting in October 1997.

Method

This project is the development and implementation of a program to assimilate new members into the Lexington, Kentucky, Seventh-day Adventist Church. Primary research focuses on the theology, theories, and currently employed methods of assimilating new members. The literature survey includes …

Depressive Symptomatology Among Hispanic Ministers Of The North American Division Of Seventh-Day Adventists, Enrique Nicolas Calandra

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The intensity of our work and living and the struggles we all experience have led to a dramatic increase in the incidence and severity of stress-related disorders, including depression. Ministers—as human beings and helping professionals—are not exempt from this reality. In fact, several studies have shown they are especially vulnerable to it. Although this is a sensitive issue, it needs to be discussed more openly, acknowledging its existence and taking steps to find causes and solutions.

This dissertation seeks to (1) measure and analyze the existence and the intensity of depressive symptomatology among Hispanic pastors of the North American Division …

A Church Growth Study Of The Chachkapi Church In Bihar State Of India, Manohar Kujur

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Chachkapi Church is the only growing church in its pastoral district. However, its growth is very slow. Adventism first came at Chachkapi in 1957 and by 1998 it had grown to 161 members. This shows its potential for growth. The church members are Oraon and the majority of the people who live around the area belong to the same community. Oraons were the first to accept Christianity in Chotanagpur South Bihar. Growth was by a people movement. According to present trends, churches among the Oraons are growing slower in comparison to the other tribals in Chotanagpur.

In an attempt to …

This study was conducted to evaluate the breast skin collagen content and electrophoretic analyses of type I collagen in heterozygous naked neck and normally feathered commercial chicks. A total of 72 birds from each genotype were randomly selected at 7 weeks and slaughtered. Breast skin was separated from each carcass and was analysed for collagen content and gel electrophopresis of type I collagen was performed. Males had significantly higher level of skin collagen content than females in both genotypes. In the naked neck chickens ??1 , and ??2 bands were highly intensive than the commercial ones indicating that the collagen …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted to determine the effects of some different antibacterial drugs used in the poultry industry for their effects on the immune system of poultry. This experiment was carried on a hundred and fifty Ross PM-3 type, daily broiler chicks. Oxytetracycline and amoxicillin used in treatment of drinking water, and zinc bacitracin and salinomycin capable of being continuously added to feed in anabolic and preservative concentrations were chosen as antibacterial drug samples. In the first 21 days of their lives the broilers were fed with a chick starter feed, that did not contain any antibacterial or anticoccidial agents, …

Effect Of Glazing And Storage Time On Lipid Oxidation Of Frozen Chub Mackerel (Scomberjaponicus), Ayla Soyer, M. Eki̇n Şahi̇n Jan 1999

Effect Of Glazing And Storage Time On Lipid Oxidation Of Frozen Chub Mackerel (Scomberjaponicus), Ayla Soyer, M. Eki̇n Şahi̇n

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The effect of glazing with the solutions contained ascorbic acid (AA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), BHT/BHA combination and only water, and storage time on lipid oxidation of chub mackerel were determined during frozen storage at -18°C for 10 months. Glazing with some antioxidants or water of the fish retarded lipid oxidation when compared to control samples during frozen storage. The results of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), peroxide value (PV) and free fatty acids (FFA) as lipid oxidation parameters increased slowly in all the samples glazed with antioxidants as a function of time but they retarded lipid oxidation …

Morphometric Analysis Of The Mandible In German Shepherd Dogs, Vedat Onar, Oya Kahveci̇oğlu, Rifat Mutuş, Hasan Alpak

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The mandibles of thirty-five German shepherd dogs without skeletal disorders were measured morphometrically. The length and the angle of the mandibles were measured and the correlation was determined between the female and male dogs. Mandible measurements increased with the age of the animals. In males, the value of the 1A and 2A angle was not statistically significant when considering age. In females, a decrease in the 1A and 5A angles was determined while no statistically significant value was determined in 2A, 3A and 4A with age. In conclusion, morphological observations and the results of the measurements have shown that German …

Changes In Food Attitudes As A Function Of Hunger, Dora Lozano, Stephen Crites, Shelley Aikman Jan 1999

Changes In Food Attitudes As A Function Of Hunger, Dora Lozano, Stephen Crites, Shelley Aikman

Departmental Papers (Psych)

This experiment investigated whether hunger selectively influences attitudes toward common food items. Ss completed a take-home questionnaire on which they rated their attitudes toward food and non-food items when they were either hungry (45 Ss) or not hungry (45 Ss); after returning the questionnaire, Ss completed a second take-home questionnaire in the opposite hunger condition. Results of both between-subject and within-subject analyses revealed that Ss rated foods more positively when hungry compared to not hungry and that there was no difference in the ratings of nonfoods when hungry vs not hungry. Moreover, attitudes toward high-fat foods changed more as a …

Health Plan Quality: Factors Influencing Hospital Participation In Health Plans, Robert Latimer Barber Jan 1999

Health Plan Quality: Factors Influencing Hospital Participation In Health Plans, Robert Latimer Barber

MUSC Theses and Dissertations

The professional and popular literatures are full of reports of surveys and studies purporting to rate health plans. Health maintenance organizations and other organizations are surveying member satisfaction. Accreditation of health plans is receiving increased attention. Interest is growing in plans' performance in the areas measured by the Health Plan Employers' Data and Information Set (HEDIS). The factors measured in current ratings and accreditation systems are not important to hospitals for evaluating health plan participation. There are factors in a health plan's performance that are important to and either beneficial or detrimental to hospitals. This paper proposes factors upon which …

Adenoma Of The Ampulla Of Vater: A Genetic Condition?, Francesco M. Serafini, Larry C. Carey

Surgery Faculty Publications

The etiology of adenoma of the ampulla of Vater is not well understood. Previous authors reported the association of this neoplasm with polycystic kidney disease of two fraternal sisters. They concluded that these two conditions were somehow related. We describe a case of ampullary adenoma associated with polycystic kidney disease. This presentation raises again the question of a possible link between these two diseases.

Internetics: Technologies, Applications And Academic Field, Or, Parallel Computing And Computational Science Do Not Quite Work, Geoffrey C. Fox

Northeast Parallel Architecture Center

Ten years ago, we were all sure that parallel computing technology and the interdisciplinary academic field of computational science would be center pieces of both academic and economic growth. We show that this insight was, in principle, correct but was an incomplete vision for large-scale computation implies both increased computer power and increasing numbers of users and applications. Parallel computing undoubtedly works on essentially all problems, but we were unable to produce deployable software systems. Further, few industries could achieve adequate return to justify investment in parallel computers, except in a few areas such as databases. Computational science is the …
