Investigation Of Iron-Removing Agents, Melanie Wolfe Jan 1999

Investigation Of Iron-Removing Agents, Melanie Wolfe

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Benign chemical agents for removing iron from people with iron-overload diseases are lacking; thus the purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the toxicity of acetaminophen in iron-overloaded mice compared to normal mice and to evaluate the iron-mobilizing ability of this agent in an iron-overloaded mouse model. Female Hilltop (ICR) CVF mice, ranging between six months to one year of age, were used in these experiments. Mice were given intraperionteal(ip) injections of 300 mg/kg ferric hydroxide-dextran complex for a total of five, eight, or thirteen injections to achieve an iron-overloaded state. Iron-overloaded mice were given ip injections of either 350,200, …

The Old Chestnut Explored: Thoughts About The Survival Of Casner's Cases And Text On Property Long Past Its Prime, Barry Brown Jan 1999

The Old Chestnut Explored: Thoughts About The Survival Of Casner's Cases And Text On Property Long Past Its Prime, Barry Brown

Seattle University Law Review

The pedagogy of the Casner text-now often imitated-assumes a fractional approach to private property. The Hohfeldian bundle of rights rational for allocation and justification of property interests did not begin with Casner or Leach, but the fact that the first edition of the book bearing the combined authors' names appeared in 1947 and has been in continuous use since that time is a testament to the insight of its writers and to its timelessness. That the structure and themes of the text have been followed in a host of casebooks is, no doubt, the sincerest form of flattery

Informing Research On Hiv Prevention: A Consultation, Sharon Fonn, C. Elizabeth Mcgrory Jan 1999

Informing Research On Hiv Prevention: A Consultation, Sharon Fonn, C. Elizabeth Mcgrory

HIV and AIDS

According to a 1998 UNAIDS/WHO report, HIV infection among women is the fastest-growing segment of the AIDS pandemic, especially in developing countries. Unfortunately, the HIV-prevention strategies put forward by the public health community—monogamy, condom use, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections—are not feasible for many women. Women urgently need a means within their personal control to protect themselves against HIV. Recognizing this need, a number of international and nongovernmental organizations and government agencies have called for the development of microbicides, products that women could use vaginally to prevent infection with sexually transmitted infections, particularly HIV. The Population Council is one …

The Shell Seekers And Working Women Readers’ Search For Serenity, Suzanne W. Jones Jan 1999

The Shell Seekers And Working Women Readers’ Search For Serenity, Suzanne W. Jones

English Faculty Publications

For the last decade feminist literary critics have convincingly argued that bestselling novels from Gone with the Wind (1936) and Forever Amber (1944) to The Valley of the Dolls (1966) and The Flame and the Flower (1972) reveal the psychic needs of twentieth-century middle-class American women, and that these needs have as much to do with desire for the emotional sustenance they once received from their mothers as with desire for heterosexual romance. However, as more and more women have moved from the private to the public workplace, their psychic needs have changed somewhat. Based on the American popularity of …
