Anger Management For Adolescents In The School Setting, Meri A. Edel

Graduate Research Papers

The first purpose of this research paper will be to discuss what might be some of the origins of adolescent anger, as well as what specifically might provoke it. The discussion will center on such topics as family systems and how they react to anger displays, as well as social contexts in relation to anger. Second, this paper will include descriptions of several anger management programs which could be used in a school setting with adolescents. The Study On Morphological And Physiological Characters Affecting The Productivity Of Some Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.) Genotypes Of Turkey, Ahmet Güler Jan 1999

The Study On Morphological And Physiological Characters Affecting The Productivity Of Some Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.) Genotypes Of Turkey, Ahmet Güler

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Experimental material consisted of 36 selected colonies collected from 6 different regions of Turkey. During the swarming season 20 worker bees were taken from each colony in order to measure the morphological characters including corbicul and wax mirror area, tongue length and body size. Development of the colony population, brood rearing activity and honey yield during a season were determined and the hive was weighed weekly for 6 months under migratory beekeeping conditions. The relationships between some morphological and physiological characters which affected the productivity of genotypes were investigated. The average honey yields were found to be 24.38±3.58, 26.57±5.51, 57.15±3.43, …

Role Of Vitamin E In Decreasing The Toxic Effect Of Digoxin, İsmai̇l Meral, Burhanetti̇n Baydaş, Fahri̇ Bayiroğlu, Hamdi̇ Uysal

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This experiment was carried out to evaluate the role of vitamin E in decreasing the toxic effect of digoxin. Electrocardiographic recordings of New Zealand rabbits which were treated with digoxin-only or digoxin+vitamin E were used. Recordings were obtained before and 24 hours after treatments. It was found that digoxin-only treatment caused a sinusoidal tachicardia without changing the durations or amplitudes of any wave on the trace. However, digoxin+vitamin E treatment did not produce any increase in heart rate. It was concluded that vitamin E injection along with digoxin injection might lower the toxic effect of digoxin. More studies are needed …

Spoiling The Surprise: Constraints Facing Random Regulatory Inspections In Japan And The United States, Andrew Chin Jan 1999

Spoiling The Surprise: Constraints Facing Random Regulatory Inspections In Japan And The United States, Andrew Chin

Northwestern Journal of International Law & Business

This Article is organized as follows. Part I presents a rational actor model of legal compliance under an enforcement regime based on random inspections and identifies two classes of reforms that can be applied in combination to improve aggregate compliance. Part II introduces the problem of corrupt tip-offs into the model and argues that exogenous reforms are necessary to combat corruption. Part III surveys the use of random administrative inspections in the United States, reviews the approaches taken by four such programs to improve compliance and fight corruption, and describes the various constraints under which they must operate. Part IV …

The Use Of Computer Animations In Teaching Science, Mo Aljaroudi Jan 1999

The Use Of Computer Animations In Teaching Science, Mo Aljaroudi

Graduate Research Papers

The primary purpose of this research paper is to investigate the effectiveness of computer animations in chemistry teaching. This is done by first defining what computer animation is and giving an historical background of its development, and then by describing levels of chemistry understanding, general and cognitive functions of animations, and exploring aspects that make animations and their applications effective in the context of chemistry teaching. Also, the paper describes how computer animations increase and enhance conceptual understanding, long-term retention, achievement, and attitudes toward subject matter. Implications are given for instructors to more effectively incorporate computer animations into their instructional …

Preserving The History Of Boston's Diversity, Nancy Richard, Joan D. Krizack Jan 1999

Preserving The History Of Boston's Diversity, Nancy Richard, Joan D. Krizack

Provenance, Journal of the Society of Georgia Archivists

These headlines appeared in Boston newspapers. The articles they introduce tell each story from the journalist's point of view. Mainstream institutions involved in the events-the courts, law enforcement, schools, and businesses--created records that provide additional information from a mainstream point of view. Often these sources are the only documentation preserved in archives and libraries that are available to researchers. Individuals from the communities involved generally pass on their perspectives on the events by word of mouth. Occasionally, members of the community or the individuals who were present create oral or written sources in which to preserve their story. Unless mainstream …

On The Extinction Of Species In Jointly Determined Stochastic Systems, Amitrajeet A. Batabyal, Hamid Beladi Jan 1999

On The Extinction Of Species In Jointly Determined Stochastic Systems, Amitrajeet A. Batabyal, Hamid Beladi

Economic Research Institute Study Papers

The sizeable literature on extinction in economics has paid scant attention to the problem of constructing measures of species extinction. Moreover, this literature has not studied the question of species extinction in stochastic systems that are jointly determined. Consequently, the objective of this paper is to use probability theory to construct a measure of species extinction in jointly determined ecological-economic systems.
