Enzymatic Glycerolysis Of Soybean Oil , Hossein Noureddini, S E. Harmeier Oct 1998

Enzymatic Glycerolysis Of Soybean Oil , Hossein Noureddini, S E. Harmeier

Papers in Biomaterials

Enzymatic glycerolysis of soybean oil was studied. Of the nine lipases that were tested in the initial screening, Pseudomonas sp. resulted in the highest yield of monoglycerides. Lipase from Pseudomonas sp. was further studied for the influence of temperature, thermal stability, enzyme/oil ratio, and glycerol/oil ratio. A full factorial optimization approach was performed. The following conditions were tested over the specified ranges: temperature (30?70°C), thermal stability (30?70°C), enzyme/oil ratio (0.05?0.2 g enzyme/10 g oil), glycerol/oil ratio (1:1?3:1 glycerol/oil molar ratio) and 1 h reaction time. The stability of the enzyme at the reaction temperature was also incorporated as a separate …

Nonlinear Modeling And Control Of A Spark Ignition Engine Idle Speed / Hazem Mohamed, Mohamed Hazem Oct 1998

Nonlinear Modeling And Control Of A Spark Ignition Engine Idle Speed / Hazem Mohamed, Mohamed Hazem

Pre-2000 Student Works

The main objective of this research work is to model and control the idle mode of a four cylinder spark ignition engine. The modeling approach is to handle the engine as a multi input multi output nonlinear black box model, where the inputs are the throttle angle and the spark timing and the outp'uts are the speed and manifold pressure. The input output data was collected from an experimental four cylinder spark ignition engine, then this data is fitted to a NARMAX model using a radial basis function network trained by the orthogonal least squares algorithm. After that the developed …

IIMB Management Review

The opening up of the economy has brought in its wake a surfeit of international brands that are now available to Indian customers. Many of these brands are internationally strong and it is no surprise that the qualitystarved Indian consumer is increasingly turning to these trusted names. What happens to the desi brands that have been assiduously built up by business houses within the country? The Round Table this time looks at this issue and seeks to investigate which way Indian brands are headed. Among the articles presented in this issue are two that address issues relating to rewards. Abhoy …

Rethinking Rewards: Rewarding A And Hoping For B!, Abhoy K Ojha

IIMB Management Review

It would seem to be well established wisdom that if a particular behaviour is desired, that should be rewarded rather than any other behaviour. Based on a case study of two hospitals in a Canadian province, Abhoy Ojha concludes that in situations where it may not be practical to reward the desired behaviour, a related behaviour could be rewarded in order to elicit the behaviour desired. An adequate understanding of the complex relationship between rewards and behaviour may allow organisations to design systems that are seen to encourage one behaviour, but also elicit multiple other desirable behaviours.
