"By Accident Or Design": A Seminar On Origins, John B. Kurlinski

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

Evolution is the only accepted theory taught in the public educational systems and by the scientific community in general. The results of the promotion of this theory have had a negative impact on the church and Scripture in general and is in direct conflict with the message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. However, the scientific data used to support evolutionary theory are highly suspect. There are credible scientific data that call into question the long-held theory of evolution and in fact support the biblical account of the creation and the flood. The purpose of this project was to write …

Development Of An Adventist Community Services Center To Serve Navajo Residents Of Kayenta, Arizona, Dale A. Wolcott

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The Problem

A decision had been made to establish a Seventh-day Adventist Community Services Center in Kayenta, Arizona, on the Navajo Indian Reservation, in connection with a church-planting initiative. Those in charge lacked experience and training in community services ministries and faced obstacles to implementation of the plan.

The Method

A combination of research and action was used to move the envisioned Community Services Center toward reality. Study of the Bible and related literature led to formulation of Scripture-based methodological principles. Demographic research and community needs assessment procedures were utilized to gain an understanding of the Kayenta community and especially …

The Impact Of Change On The Hong Kong Convention And Exposition Business, Rachel S. Shinnar, Rhonda J. Montgomery

Visions in Leisure and Business

The primary objective of this paper was to look into the future of the Hong Kong Convention Center. The July 97 hand-over has generated many speculations regarding Hong Kong's future as a business center and as a tourist destination. The newly expanded Convention Center in the city has hosted many conventions and exhibitions in the past but its future is still uncertain. A wide scope of opinions is cited, predicting various scenarios regarding the future of the city. Based on these opinions and on statistical figures provided by the Hong Kong Tourist Association an attempt to predict the city's future …

Sport Tourism: A Business Inherency Or An Innate Compulsion?, Joseph Kurtzman, John Zauhar Jan 1998

Sport Tourism: A Business Inherency Or An Innate Compulsion?, Joseph Kurtzman, John Zauhar

Visions in Leisure and Business

Human interactions are usually reconcilable by certain mutually acceptable actions-- that is by interpretation and balance between stimulus and response. As such, specific or symbolic behaviours give meaning to Sport Tourism. Conditions springing from actions take into account opportunities, means, demands, discomforts, impositions and the like. Decisions are based on the assessment of these factors--be it by the individual, by the collectivity or societal quest. Furthermore, decisional behaviours are defined or structured in terms of business procedures, holistic conditions or mediated interpretations--in essence, an interactionist approach to Sport Tourism.

Where America Ends And The International Order Begins: Interpreting The Jurisdictional Reach Of The U.S. Constitution In Light Of A Proposed Hague Convention On Jurisdiction And Satisfaction Of Judgments, Andrew L. Strauss Jan 1998

Where America Ends And The International Order Begins: Interpreting The Jurisdictional Reach Of The U.S. Constitution In Light Of A Proposed Hague Convention On Jurisdiction And Satisfaction Of Judgments, Andrew L. Strauss

School of Law Faculty Publications

The recently concluded Hague Convention on Choice of Courts Agreements is the culmination of over a decade of negotiations. While the convention is very modest in what it attempts to accomplish, many observers see it as a first step toward achieving greater global uniformity of rules regarding jurisdiction and satisfactions of judgments. To the extent the United States Constitution governs the international ambit of United States jurisdiction in international cases, there is the potential for conflict between the Constitution and international treaty rules. A treaty found to be in conflict with the Constitution would likely be held invalid — at …

The Economic Impact Of Tourism: Jamaican Residents' Perceptions, Joel L. Frater Jan 1998

The Economic Impact Of Tourism: Jamaican Residents' Perceptions, Joel L. Frater

Visions in Leisure and Business

Despite the acknowledged importance of tourism to global economies, and the attention given to empirical research in developed countries, very little attention has been given to research in less developed countries, particularly those in the Caribbean. In this study, residents in the tourism resort communities of Negril, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios, Jamaica, West Indies rated their perceptions of the economic impact of tourism on their community. The mean scores indicated that residents perceived an overall slightly positive economic impact of tourism However, ANOV A results showed statistically significant difference in the degree of positive perceptions based on the socio-demographic …

Visions For South African Sport Tourism, Kamilla Swart Jan 1998

Visions For South African Sport Tourism, Kamilla Swart

Visions in Leisure and Business

Sport tourism is a segment of the tourism industry which is growing rapidly. In South Africa it is slowly being recognized as an important niche market within the tourism sector. In order to capitalize on the country's recent sporting successes, South Africa Sports Tourism (SAST) was launched by the government in 1997. This article will review the development of sport tourism in postapartheid South Africa by giving a brief description of the SAST initiative. It will further describe various issues, such as community involvement, private sector involvement, integration of sport and tourism bodies, and education and research, which must be …

Gender Bias In The American Bar Association Journal: Impact On The Legal Profession, Marilyn Berger, Kari A. Robinson Jan 1998

Gender Bias In The American Bar Association Journal: Impact On The Legal Profession, Marilyn Berger, Kari A. Robinson

Faculty Articles

The ABA Journal presents women in the legal system in a similar fashion to the presentation of women in the journals of other professions. Women are portrayed in traditional sex roles, they are pictured passively and they are often shown negatively as victims. In the volumes the authors studied, they found that the numbers of images of attorneys, judges and professors were not proportionate to the number of men and women in the legal profession. Moreover, the ABA Journal predominantly displayed women as dependent on their male counterparts. The authors also found instances where the ABA Journal portrayed women as …

Teaching Law Students Through Individual Learning Styles, Robin A. Boyle, Rita Dunn Jan 1998

Teaching Law Students Through Individual Learning Styles, Robin A. Boyle, Rita Dunn

Faculty Publications

(Excerpt)

Teaching can be rewarding, but it can also be frustrating when some students fail to grasp the material. Professor Robin A. Boyle of St. John’s University School of Law has been teaching Legal Research and Writing in small sections of approximately twenty to thirty students for four years. She, like many of her similarly exasperated colleagues, has repeated the same course content by using either lecture or collaborative learning, and has observed some students doing well, whereas others continued to perform poorly. Then, Dr. Rita Dunn was introduced to the law school faculty and suggested that law professors incorporate …
