An Investigation About The Distribution And Isolation Of Pseudomonas From Raw Milksamples Obtained From Different Areas, Güven Uraz, Sumru Çitak

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this research, a total of 48 Pseudomonas had been isolated using PseudomonasCN and CFC Agar, Pseudomonas P(King A) and PseudomonasF(King B) and Crystal Violet Tetrazolium Agar (CVT) from 200 raw milk samples. Of 48 isolated Pseudomonas, (41.66%) 20 have been named as P. fluorescens, (22.51%) 11 as P. aeruginosa,22.91%) 11 as P. putida, (4.16%) 2 as P. aurefa-ciens, (6.25%) 3 as P. pseudomallei, (2.08%) 1 as P. cepacia. When the distribution of Pseudomonas species has been evaluated according to the seasons, P. fluorescens biotip I and II have been detected in summer seasons while P. fluorescens biotip III has …

Bizarre Blood Flow Patterns Detected By Transvaginal Pulsed And Color Doppler Ultrasonography In Ectopic Pregnancies, Eyüp Eki̇ci̇, Kubilay Vi̇cdan, Muammer Doğan, Kazım Aral, Tuğrul Aydoğdu, Oya Gökmen

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

The characteristics of blood flow patterns detected by transvaginal pulsed and color Doppler ultrasonography were evoluated in ectopic pregnanacies. Two hundred and fifteen patients with surgically and histopathologically confirmed ectopic preg-nancies were included in this study. Of 215 patients, 113 (52.5 %) had an ectopic trophoblastic flow. 106 of them (93.8 %)showed a typical trophoblastic flow characterized by a high-velocity and low-impedance flow, whereas 7 (6.2 %) had bizarre blood waveforms including high-impedance and reversed diastolic flow. It was concluded that although most of the cases with ectopic pregnancy demonstrate a typical flow, a wide range of flow waveforms including …

Cardiac Troponin T In Diagnosis Of Acute Myocardial Infarction, Gülinnaz Alper, Ömür Erkizan, Can Hasdemi̇r, Azem Akilli, Taner Onat

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Cardiac Troponin T (TnT) is a regulatory contractile protein not normally found in blood. Its detection in the circulation has been shown to be a sensitive and specific marker for myocardial cell damage. This study was designed to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of TnT enzyme immunoassay for the early diagnosis of AMI (Acute Myocardial Infarction) and to compare this newly developed test with the conventionally used cardiac enzyme tests in need of an alternative test of greater sensitivity and specificity. The study population consisted of 13 patients with a mean age of 52±8 years who were hospitalized for AMI. Blood …

State Common-Law Choice-Of-Law Doctrine And Same-Sex "Marriage": How Will States Enforce The Public Policy Exception?, L. Lynn Hogue Jan 1998

State Common-Law Choice-Of-Law Doctrine And Same-Sex "Marriage": How Will States Enforce The Public Policy Exception?, L. Lynn Hogue

Faculty Publications By Year

Growth in the number of states legalizing same-sex marriages and civil unions that increasingly mirror the rights afforded married partners has brought renewed focus on the issue of extra-territorial recognition of those relationships. The public policy exception is a primary, state-law-based impediment to the recognition of foreign marriages that do not conform to the forum state's definition of marriage. This article discusses the role of the public policy exception in rejecting recognition of foreign marriages and argues that the public policy exception has constitutional underpinnings that are rooted in principles of federalism and the protection of state sovereignty which inheres …

End-Of-Life Decision Making: What We Don’T Know, We Make Up; What We Do Know, We Ignore, Sandra H. Johnson

All Faculty Scholarship

The recent emergence of substantial empirical research in bioethics reveals gaps between “reality” and the normative principles that largely instruct American bioethics and the legal framework of health care. This Article examines how the debate over the appropriate source of legal and ethical norms in medicine has been played out in judicial decisions regarding the legalization of physician-assisted suicide.

The article begins with an analysis of the Ninth Circuit’s 1996 majority opinion in Compassion in Dying v. Washington, later reversed by the Supreme Court. In support of the legalization of physician-assisted suicide, the Ninth Circuit emphasized the role of empirical …

The Distribution And Long-Term Change In Banksia Ilicifolia Communities On The Gnangara Mound, Ryan Gurner Jan 1998

The Distribution And Long-Term Change In Banksia Ilicifolia Communities On The Gnangara Mound, Ryan Gurner

Theses : Honours

The Gnangara Mound is a large shallow groundwater aquifer which occurs in the superficial formations bounded by the Swan River, Ellenbrook, Gingin Brook, Moore River and the Indian Ocean on the northern Swan Coastal Plain. To protect terrestrial vegetation on the Gnangara Mound. groundwater levels must be maintained to allow plants access to water which is required for their survival. In areas with a shallow depth to groundwater, studies have shown that groundwater drawdown (reduction of the water table by any processes or factors) has a high potential to impact on the vegetation (Havel. 1968: Aplin. 1976: Heddle. 1980a: Dodd …

The National Eutrophication Management Program (NEMP) and Environment Australia convened a workshop to develop a coherent overview of the sources and transport of diffuse phosphorus in Australian catchments based on the latest knowledge. The Land and Water Resources Research and Development Corporation (LWRRDC) and the Murray–Darling Basin Commission (MDBC) jointly fund NEMP. A select group of scientists attended the workshop and developed a coherent statement about phosphorus sources and transport in Australian catchments. The group did not extend this statement to include recommended management practices. This paper reports the findings from the workshop. State governments have developed algal and nutrient …

The Artistic And Scientific Collaboration Of Blanche Ames Ames And Adelbert Ames Ii, Roy R. Behrens

Faculty Work

During an uninterrupted period from about 1910 through 1913, Blanche Ames Ames (1878-1969), an American artist and women's suffragist, worked closely with her brother, Adelbert Ames 11 (1880-1955), a lawyer, artist and optical physiologist, in a study of color, perspective and other aspects of pictorial art in the hope of using scientific findings to enhance the realism of their paintings. They made significant progress, but their close relationship ended in 1922 as a result of a disagreement about their joint authorship of a published paper.
