Effects Of Oxygen Variation On The Ecology Of Devil's Hole, Death Valley National Park, Norma J. Azad
Effects Of Oxygen Variation On The Ecology Of Devil's Hole, Death Valley National Park, Norma J. Azad
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The inability to rear Devil's Hole pupfish, Cyprinodon diabolis Wales, in captivity, when captive propagation has been successful with other species of pupfish, led to the examination of environmental factors which are unique to Devil's Hole. It has been suggested that C. diabolis regularly experience developmental arrest due to hypoxic conditions. This arrest may be reversible in areas of the shallow shelf during periods of photosynthetic activity. Oxygen measurements over the shallow shelf reveal a gradient of oxygen variation with the greatest diel variability over the inner portion of the shelf diminishing to nearly imperceptible diel variation toward the outer …

Space Congress® Proceedings
The Air Force Research Laboratory Integrated Space Technology Demonstrations (ISTD) program office has partnered with Orbital Science Corporation to complement the commercial OrbView satellite’s high-resolution panchromatic imaging and Multispectral imaging (MSI) systems with a high resolution hyperspectral imaging (HSI) spectrometer camera. The program is an advanced technology demonstration utilizing a commercially based space capability with unique functionality in a remote sensing technology. This leveraging of commercial industry to perform the Warfighter-1 contract utilizes the precepts of acquisition reform [1]. By exploiting the latest commercial technology and using streamlined acquisition practices in concert with traditional American know-how, the Air Force is …

Organic Compounds In Cyanea Capillata And Chrysaora Quinquecirrha, Kris Mitchell '98
Organic Compounds In Cyanea Capillata And Chrysaora Quinquecirrha, Kris Mitchell '98
Honors Projects
Cyanea capillata and Chrysaora quinquecirrha are two species of jellyfish which emit an "iodoform-like" odor. Attempts to identify the compound(s) which produce this odor have been made using chromatography techniques. Thus far, results obtained from column chromatography and GC-MS analysis have been inconclusive. However, these data suggest an hypothesis that may explain the origin of the odor. A low molecular-weight, highly volatile compound, such as ethylene, is a likely candidate for this elusive, odor-causing chemical.

Honors Theses
As a library research project, this thesis has gone beyond research in the library, and it could not have been possible without the aid of several people. First I must thank the organizations which responded to my request for information: the Center for Environmental Information, the Rainforest Action Network, the World Wildlife Fund, and Conservation International Specifically, Jill McLaughlin in the Communications Department of CI was· most gracious in sending me management plans for parks in Brazil and Madagascar. Carla Langeveld of the WWF, was very helpful during my visit to their library, and subsequently in my request for the …
