Assessment Of Recreation Space Along The Hudson River Waterfront In Jersey City, Nj, Darren M. Davidowich May 1998

Assessment Of Recreation Space Along The Hudson River Waterfront In Jersey City, Nj, Darren M. Davidowich

Theses

For the past decade Jersey City, New Jersey has worked to redevelop its waterfront. The once highly industrialized waterfront is now the location of residential and commercial uses and more projects are slated for the future. Although many improvements to the physical and built environment occurred along the waterfront, many question whether enough emphasis was placed on outdoor recreation. Site assessments, field observations, and surveys of waterfront users in Jersey City, NJ were conducted to determine what uses are possible, and in the greatest demand on the waterfront. A total of (950) field observations were made of waterfront users. This …

Sebastopol State Historical Park (41gu9), Seguin, Texas: Archeological Excavations, 1978-1988, Sandra R. Sauer, Art Black, Cynthia Brandimarte

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

The town of Seguin in Guadalupe County, Texas, was known for its numerous limecrete structures. Limecrete structures probably once numbered more than 100; now, the house known as Sebastopol is one of only two still standing. Between 1978 and 1988, archeological excavations were conducted by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in and around Sebastopol. The excavations were preparatory to and in conjunction with architectural restoration of the building and development of the site as a State Historical Park. Archeological excavations were intended to evaluate only those areas impacted by the architectural restoration. Excavation units were placed primarily in and …

The Delegitimation Of Land Tenure In Tropical Peten, Guatemala, Charles Clark May 1998

The Delegitimation Of Land Tenure In Tropical Peten, Guatemala, Charles Clark

Research Papers

Lack of legitimacy of land tenure institutions in the tropical Peten, Guatemala, contributes to the tenure insecurity that encourages rapid colonization, deforestation and forest conversion to agriculture. The author identifies historical periods of delegitimation of land tenure institutions and analyzes social, political and property rights trends which reduced thee effectiveness of property rights in the Peten. Three case studies present the complexities and chaos of land tenure institutions. The first analyzes the unregulated land invasions by small farmers, the second discusses land tenure barriers to protection of indigenous cooperatives, and the third analyzes attempts by the government and non- governmental …

The Price Of Clean Air: A Consideration Of Market Based Emissions Trading, Mark W. Miller May 1998

The Price Of Clean Air: A Consideration Of Market Based Emissions Trading, Mark W. Miller

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Traditional regulatory approaches for environmental protection do not consider

the costs and benefits of the standards they impose. Further, imposing strict performance

standards on firms with heterogeneous control costs leads to an inefficient allocation of resources devoted to pollution control. This paper explores the use of emission allowance trading as a way to improve economic efficiency within the context of environmental protection. PM10 air pollution from sources within the Las Vegas Valley is used as the case study.

This paper found that an emission trading

program in this particular case study would not live up to the theoretical expectations. Although, …

An oral, on-site interview survey was randomly given to 282 boaters as they left the lake for the day.
