Correctional Institution Response To Deviant Behavior: An Evaluation Of Correctional Institution Rehabilitation Treatment Programs, Catherine A. Stillman
Correctional Institution Response To Deviant Behavior: An Evaluation Of Correctional Institution Rehabilitation Treatment Programs, Catherine A. Stillman
Theses & Honors Papers
There have been countless studies on criminals, treatment and recidivism, however, there is still no simple solution. The treatment programs at Dillwyn Correctional Center were design and taught by the Correctional Institution Rehabilitation Counselors. These treatment programs were enacted in hopes of aiding the offender in leading a crime free life in the future. Theorist Sutherland and Gillin both submit that it is possible for a convict to be reformed through a process of interaction with the do-gooders of society and a regime of work and education to be reborn as a lawful individual. Therefore, the treatment programs enacted at …

Deaf President Now: Its Impact On Three Aspects Of Residential Schools, Molly O'Hara
Undergraduate University Honors Capstones
The impact of Deaf President Now (1988) on Gallaudet is undeniable. However, O'Hara inspects the impact that DPN had on residential schools. Residential schools have a long history with the deaf community, and so does Gallaudet. This study analyzes the impact Gallaudet had on residential schools in their sign language policies, the number of deaf employees, and the number of deaf administrators.

The Effects Of A Cross-Age Peer Tutoring Read Aloud Program On Learning Disabled Resource Room Students, Jeffery G. Wellington
The Effects Of A Cross-Age Peer Tutoring Read Aloud Program On Learning Disabled Resource Room Students, Jeffery G. Wellington
Theses and Dissertations
Preventing school failure of special education students is an issue of immense proportion. Apart from academic needs, many special education students have needs in other areas such as improved self esteem, social skills and behavior that far outweigh the needs of regular education students. This study was designed to investigate the effects of a cross-age peer tutoring read aloud program on sixteen fifth and sixth grade learning resource room students. The subjects' self concept, behavior, discipline referral rate and absenteeism rate were examined in a pre/post intervention design. The subjects were required to tutor by reading aloud to third grade …
The Impact Of Interscholastic Activity Program Participation On Self-Concept, Melanie L. Lawrence
The Impact Of Interscholastic Activity Program Participation On Self-Concept, Melanie L. Lawrence
Theses and Dissertations
Self-concept is one of the most important constructs in an individual's life. It is the backbone of personal development. The purpose of the present study is to determine whether adolescent students participating in an interscholastic athletic program (basketball) accomplish more substantial gains in self-concept than their non-participant peers. The Tennessee Self-Concept Scale (TSCS:2) was used to assess the baseline data of 40 high school students. Twenty of the students composed the non-active control group, while 20 students composed the experimental, active group. After a ten-week interval, post-test data was gathered. Although results differed based on individual scores, on the average, …

Effects Of Computer Assisted Instruction And Pclogo Programs On Math Performance Of Seventh And Eighth Grade Students With Learning Disabilities, Katherine R. Sweeny
Theses & Honors Papers
The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of computer assisted instruction and Logo programming on the math performance of seventh and eighth grade students with learning disabilities. The sample included thirty (N=30) subjects with learning disabilities. The computer programs used were Deluxe Math Munchers and LOGO for Windows. A three group pretest-posttest experimental design was used to determine if a relationship existed between the three different methods of instruction and achievement, and whether or not a significant difference existed in performance based on grade levels. The 30 subjects were randomly assigned to one of three groups, two …

A MODEL FOR SMALL GROUP DEVELOPMENT AND ENRICHMENT ATST. LUKE'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WISCONSINBY TIMOTHY E. WENGER
The project was begun with the assumption that a greater use of small group ministry could strengthen the congregation as a whole and provide better opportunities for individuals to experience spiritual growth and a deeper sense of fellowship within the church. The approach to this project included research into the theological foundation of small groups and research into the utilization of small groups in society. The observance and appraisal of current small group ministry at St. Luke’s and the enrichment and development …

The Relationship Between Social Intelligence And Behavioral Functioning In Students With Learning Disabilities, James Vreeland
Theses
Clinicians suggest that differences between the nonverbal Picture Arrangement (PA) and verbal Comprehension (C) WISC subtests reflect poor social perception, understanding, or action. In this study, data from 79 children with learning disabilities were subjected to repeated measures MANOVA to examine PA and C social sensitivity. Although PA and C scores correlated minimally with Teacher (TRF) and Parent (CBCL) reported behavior problems, those who scored significantly higher on PA than C (PA >C) displayed more TRF Internalizing, Withdrawal, Social, and Thought Problems than the C > PA group. This study compared special education students who join extracurricular activities versus those that do not join, and identified factors that inhibit participation in the various extracurricular activities that are offered. Twenty special education students at the seventh and eighth grade levels enrolled in the Mullica Township Middle School were interviewed individually during their study hall period to determine the extent of their participation in extracurricular activities. Their responses were recorded and analyzed to determine the rate of participation. The groups were then divided into participants and non-participants and responses were content analyzed. Screening Measures For Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Heather Foley
Screening Measures For Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Heather Foley
Theses
While performance-based measures have not typically been used by school psychologists in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessment, a growing body of evidence suggests that neuropsychological measures may provide valuable diagnostic information as part of a comprehensive evaluation of the disorder. The utility of two neuropsychological measures for use as screening measures in assessing ADHD was examined in the present study. The performance of 29 children with ADHD was compared with that of 96 controls on alternate forms of Trails B and a Figure Cancellation Task. Although a developmental trend was found suggesting increased performance with age, time to complete …
