Whence The Anger?, Georgi Chistyakov
Whence The Anger?, Georgi Chistyakov
Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe
Today Orthodox religiosity includes, as an almost inseparable component, a struggle against Catholics and Protestants, an attempt to expose them as enemies of our faith and of Russia, as well as a complete rejection of ecumenism and of any openness towards other confessions. The very term "ecumenism" has become pejorative and an accusation of affinity towards it is seen as evidence of a certain betrayal of Orthodoxy. It is a given that our relations with Christians of other confessions have not always been smooth, we do not understand each other in everything, certain elements of Catholic or Protestant theology are …

Caregiver And Clinician Assessment Of Behavioral Disturbances: The California Dementia Behavior Questionnaire, Jeff Victoroff, Kristy A. Nielson, Dan Mungas
Psychology Faculty Research and Publications
As part of a multicenter project to study noncognitive behavioral disturbances in dementia, the authors developed a comprehensive caregiver-rated questionnaire for these behaviors. The authors determined the reliability of caregiver ratings and compared caregiver ratings with clinician ratings using standard instruments. Caregivers showed good test/retest reliability for ratings of all types of patient behavioral disturbance. Caregiver interrater reliability was highest for depression and lowest for psychosis. The correlation between caregiver reports and professional assessments was highest for agitation, intermediate for psychosis, and lowest for depression. The match between caregiver and clinician assessments of patient behaviors appears to vary significantly by …

A Social And Semantic History Of The Concept Of Minority With Particular Reference To The Coptic Question, Mariam Aziz Kirollos
Archived Theses and Dissertations
The objectives of the research are to provide: a semantic analysis of the sociological concept of 'minority' in both English and Arabic, a historical analysis of the use of the concept in both western and Arab social contexts, an analysis of the specific discourse on Copts and minority in the Egyptian context and the examination of the underlying ideological positions, and to use this particular case to raise questions about comparability and cross-cultural analytical validity of such a concept. The method used in the thesis is a review of literature dedicated to define and analyze the concept of minority in …

The Evolution In Military Affairs: Shaping The Future U.S. Armed Forces, Douglas C. Lovelace Professor
The Evolution In Military Affairs: Shaping The Future U.S. Armed Forces, Douglas C. Lovelace Professor
Books, Monographs & Collaborative Studies
Professor Douglas Lovelace articulates the exigent need to begin preparing the U.S. armed forces for the international security environment which will succeed the post-Cold War era. He defines national security interests, describes the future international security environment, identifies derivative future national security objectives and strategic concepts, and discerns the military capabilities that will be required in the early 21st century. Professor Lovelace neither proposes nor allows for a "revolution in military affairs," but contends that the U.S. military necessarily must evolve into a 21st century force. He considers the force capabilities suggested by Joint Vision 2010 as a necessary step …
The Implications Of Deweyan Pragmatism For Liberal Democracies, Robert B. Fenneuff
The Implications Of Deweyan Pragmatism For Liberal Democracies, Robert B. Fenneuff
Masters Theses
My research explores John Dewey's political theory in order to determine what practical and theoretical significance it has for liberal democratic nation-states that face significant problems in a number of areas. The problems Dewey's political theory is most concerned with stem from the impact of highly complex modern technology upon the ability of a democratic society to strive closer towards its ideals of freedom , equality, and community. My research shows that Dewey's theory calls for an experimental re-creation of social and political institutions with the purpose of creating an effective means by which society can organize the complex technology …

Allow me to posit a traditional four-part division of the self into the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical/sensual. This may be further simplified to a two-part division, one being the spiritual and the other being a trio of the other selves which collectively may be termed the natural self. Sacred activity in this context would be an effort to achieve communion between the spiritual self and other spiritual entities. Such communion would be, in fact, the self's highest goal and, ultimately, the only one worth all its efforts. True communion with other beings is only possible on this spiritual level, …

Examining Community Needs Through A Capacity Assessment, Ruben D. Nieto, Dona Schaffner, Janet L. Henderson
Journal of Extension
Examining community needs through a capacity assessment. The main purpose of the study was to determine the emerging issues and concerns in Defiance County, Ohio as perceived by community citizens. Data were collected through a series of focus group interviews and a county-wide mail survey. Community leaders are using the findings of the study to avoid duplication of efforts and to design programs that address the most critical issues and concerns of the community. This participatory approach to a capacity assessment resulted in a synergistic effort that provided a more accurate picture of community issues and concerns.
