Effects Of Levels Of Pleasantness And Vividness On Mood And Recall, Ibolya Yolas, Melissa Pelkey, Tiffany Porter

Modern Psychological Studies

Undergraduate university students (N=118) participated in the experiment examining the effects of pleasantness level and vividness level on mood and recall. A pleasant and an unpleasant story were manipulated to construct the subdued and vivid version of the story. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of the four experimental conditions: (a) pleasant-subdued (b) pleasant-vivid, (c) unpleasant-subdued or (d) unpleasant-vivid A mood scale was administered before and after the presentation of the text. An additional test was used to measure recall. The results indicated significant main effect for level of vividness on mood F (1,111) = 558, p <.05. Mood was found to be a significant predictor variable of recall R = .25 R2= .066, F (1,111) = 786 These findings might be applicable to any area concerned with mood alteration.

Goal-Setting And Performance Measurement In Transportation Planning And Programming, Darwin G. Stuart

Journal of Public Transportation

A series of examples from highway planning, transit planning, and multimodal planning/programming is reviewed. The role of more systematic application of transportation goals and objectives and associated performance measures is explored. The need to connect with the overall planning/management structure of an agency is stressed. Distinctions are made between process-oriented and product-oriented goals, contrasting internal administrative measures with output or performance-oriented measures. Several multimodal planning studies are further contrasted with regard to their extent of employing product-oriented performance measures. A checklist for improved goal-setting is given.

Implementing Organizational Change Through Visioning And Strategic Planning-The Cttransit Experience, Michael A. Sanders, David A. Lee

Journal of Public Transportation

A visioning and strategic planning process was undertaken at CTTransit beginning in early 1995 that has resulted in fundamental changes in organizational goals and values. A critical aspect of the visioning process was the involvement of union leaders and officials from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT), as well as the transit system 's management, in articulating a shared vision of the future. The new vision has helped to transform the organization from one that was historically reactive and conservative to one that is proactive both in responding to customers and embracing technology. A variety of projects and interdepartmental teams …
