The Relationship Of Womanist Identity Attitudes To Age, Life Events, And View Of Women's Roles, Ingrid Karen Toews
The Relationship Of Womanist Identity Attitudes To Age, Life Events, And View Of Women's Roles, Ingrid Karen Toews
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Similar to minority groups, women often possess inferiority feelings about themselves and have difficulty developing a positive view of womanhood. Womanist Identity Development is the stage-wise process by which women develop womanist attitudes, forming a positive gender identity. The stages are associated with specific attitudes about womanhood, including external negative definitions (i.e. societal stereotypes) and positive internal definitions. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not womanist identity attitudes vary according to age and whether or not attitudes are related to views of women's roles and life experiences. The sample consisted of fifty-two participants ages 20 to …

A Field Trip To Benetton And Beyond: Some Thoughts On Outsider Narrative In A Law School Clinic, Carolyn Grose
A Field Trip To Benetton And Beyond: Some Thoughts On Outsider Narrative In A Law School Clinic, Carolyn Grose
Faculty Scholarship
This essay explores the process of teaching students—and ourselves—to listen to and accept different versions of reality. Such exploration results in a proposition that is easy to state but difficult to accomplish: that in order to achieve this goal, we must challenge the students' "common sense”—their sense that they "know" how people act—by offering examples of behaviors that differ from that knowledge, without triggering the very "common sense" we are trying to combat. Toward this end, the first section of the essay presents a hypothetical initial interview with a client, and the student interviewer's reactions to her, which reflect the …

Abolish The Juvenile Court: Youthfulness, Criminal Responsibility, And Sentencing Policy, Barry C. Feld
Abolish The Juvenile Court: Youthfulness, Criminal Responsibility, And Sentencing Policy, Barry C. Feld
Articles
The juvenile court system should be abolished and all juvenile offenders should be integrated into the traditional criminal court system. The offenders' age should be taken into account during sentencing. The juvenile court system is a failure because a criminal punishment system cannot also be a social welfare system.

Review Of Developments At The 48th Session Of The United Nations Sub-Commission On Prevention Of Discrimination And Protection Of Minorities, David Weissbrodt, Sosamma Samuel

Until the turning point of the 1993 World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna, few issues received as little political attention at the United Nations as the human rights of women. Now, thanks to the efforts of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academics, and other advocates, the Conference itself can claim the placement of women on the human rights agenda as one of its clearest victories. The weaknesses of the United Nations and of the international community as a whole {including states and NGOs) have been primarily in two areas: (a) at the conceptual level, their failure, until recently, to declare all …

The Turbulent Sixties At Rutgers: An Interview With Richard P. Mccormick, Michael J. Birkner
The Turbulent Sixties At Rutgers: An Interview With Richard P. Mccormick, Michael J. Birkner
History Faculty Publications
Richard P. McCormick’s professional life has been so intertwined with Rutgers University’s history that it is difficult to imagine anyone who knows more about Rutgers or who has put a greater imprint on the institution. Except for half a dozen years living in Philadelphia and Newark, Delaware, during the era of the Second World War, McCormick has been a significant presence at Rutgers for six decades. He arrived as a freshman at Rutgers College in 1934 and, after graduating in 1938, worked for the Department of History as a factotum while completing a master’s degree in history. Recruited to join …

An "Authentic Wholeness" Synthesis Of Jungian And Existential Analysis, Samuel Minier
An "Authentic Wholeness" Synthesis Of Jungian And Existential Analysis, Samuel Minier
Modern Psychological Studies
Eclectic approaches to psychotherapy often lack cohesion due to the focus on technique and procedure rather than theory and wholeness of both the person and of the therapy. A synthesis of Jungian and existential therapies overcomes this trend by demonstrating how two theories may be meaningfully integrated The consolidation of the shared ideas among these theories reveals a notion of "authentic wholeness' that may be able to stand on its own as a therapeutic objective. Reviews of both analytical and existential psychology are given. Differences between the two are discussed, and possible reconciliation are offered. After noting common elements in …
