Diversity Of Arkansas Water Resources Research, Kenneth F. Steele

Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports

In order to understand, protect, and manage our water resources effectively knowledge is required from many diverse areas of science, engineering, economics, and sociology. These proceedings of the conference on the Diversity of Arkansas Water Resources Research reflect this need and demonstrate how researchers in the state are responding to water issues and problems in Arkansas. The papers in these proceedings are representative of the research in Arkansas, but are only a sample of the work being conducted by universities and government agencies in Arkansas. We are grateful that Arkansas has the expertise available to provide the information necessary to …

Effect Of Beam Attenuation On Photorefractive Grating Erasure, Martin M Liphardt, Arosha Goonesekera, Stephen Ducharme, James M. Takacs, Lei Zhang Oct 1996

Effect Of Beam Attenuation On Photorefractive Grating Erasure, Martin M Liphardt, Arosha Goonesekera, Stephen Ducharme, James M. Takacs, Lei Zhang

Stephen Ducharme Publications

We investigate the influence of attenuation on the speed of erasure of photorefractive gratings by solving the coupled-wave equations in the undepleted pump approximation and by taking into account the attenuation and Gaussian intensity profile of all the beams. The extrinsic grating decay rate is significantly lower than the intrinsic photorefractive decay rate in samples with overall attenuation as low as 10%. The Gaussian beam profiles of the readout and the erasing beams result in a further reduction of the extrinsic decay rate. The results of these calculations are used to determine the spectrum of intrinsic decay rates in a …

Attorney Advertising In Texas: Regulations Mean Serious Business, Mitchel L. Winick, Debra Thomas, Robin Sisco

Texas Wesleyan Law Review

The purpose of this article is to provide attorneys with additional notice and explanation of the history, constitutional basis, and interpretation of Texas' attorney advertising and solicitation rules. Beware, Migrating Spouses, Texas Lacks A Quasi-Community Property Statute: It Could Be A Long Cold Winter, Mark Evans Harden, Barbara A. Lindsay-Smith Oct 1996

Beware, Migrating Spouses, Texas Lacks A Quasi-Community Property Statute: It Could Be A Long Cold Winter, Mark Evans Harden, Barbara A. Lindsay-Smith

Texas Wesleyan Law Review

This article briefly outlines the community property and common law property systems and gives a brief history of wills. Next follows a discussion of built-in protections provided spouses in the community and common law property systems. Third, this article addresses how a spouse migrating to Texas from a common law state can be effectively left without support when her property-acquiring spouse devises property the couple acquired during marriage to a third party. Fourth, this article contends that quasi-community property principles should be employed in probate contexts to provide widowed migrating, non-acquiring spouses equitable property distributions similar to the way they …

America's Least Funny Home Videos: A Critique Of The Kephart V. State Authentication Standard For Videotape Evidence, Stephen Jeffrey Chapman

Texas Wesleyan Law Review

This note will analyze the evidentiary standard for third-party or self-made videotapes promulgated by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Kephart, discuss evidentiary standards applied to similar types of evidence by other courts, and demonstrate that third-party or self-made videotape evidence requires a different authentication standard than does videotape evidence recorded under police or private business surveillance.
