Repairing The Suburban Metropolis: Introducing Varied Housing Typologies Into The Suburban City Model, Randy L Barnes

Suburban cities are renowned for containing a limited range of housing typologies, specifically the single family house and the apartment. This thesis examines the varied groups whose needs are not served by the housing types offered in the suburban model as well as the role that typical suburban housing has had in shaping the suburban city model. Included are design solutions for introducing varied housing typologies into an existing suburban city, schematic plans for implementing mass transit, a reorganization plan for zoning layouts and a financial analysis for implementing specific housing modifications.

A Stadium Of Hope: A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Promise Keepers, Matthew H Barton

The historical ebb and flow of the Men's Christian Movement has been one of interest and concern to the American public. This concern surfaced once again with the popularity of the Promise Keepers organization. This paper focuses on the rhetorical discourse and strategies of the Promise Keepers organization from a social movement perspective. This study examines the evolutionary states through which social movements evolve; look at specific examples of the discourse to examine the persuasive appeals; and address the leadership tactics and character of Bill McCartney, founder of the Promise Keepers.

This paper covers Internet communication and the ability of consenting adults to freely and openly express ideas regardless of content, especially when dealing with obscene and indecent materials. The first chapter focuses on the inability of the American courts to specifically define what obscenity is and exactly where it falls within the realm of First Amendment protection. In that chapter, I discuss the theoretical backdrop for the entire obscenity issue. The second chapter focuses on the governmental attempt to regulate Internet communications, focusing on the Communications Decency Act of 1996. This thesis is a case study of the ongoing peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, and the lack of impact that past agreements have made on the recent Oslo Accords. The thesis will attempt to show that past failures in 'land for peace' agreements between Israel and Arab countries only illustrate what is in store for the Oslo Accords. In addition, the current Israeli administration's failure to concede the disputed land in the occupied territories is in part, due to the fear of an emerging Palestinian state on the West Bank and Gaza Strip. This study examines the relationship between University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), head coaches and their respective UNLV Sports Marketing Departments. Focused interviews of all 13 head coaches at the university were used to study communicational and promotional limitations between the two parties. The purpose was to discover strengths and weaknesses existing in the lines of communication as well as in the aspect of promotional efforts; Results showed satisfactory performances of the Sports Marketing Department with regards to several aspects of the marketing procedure, including promotional strategies. The primary goal of this research was to gain an understanding of the temporal sequence of cardiac regulatory mechanisms throughout the development of the red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii. Investigations focused on cardiac development and the ontogeny of the regulatory mechanisms of the cardiovascular system. Investigations concentrated on two areas: (1) the development of a staging scheme for P. clarkii, and (2) the ontogeny of neurohormonal regulation of the heart of P. clarkii. An embryonic staging scheme was established to allow a comparison between animals of the same "chronological-age" (fertilized at the same time), but not of the same developmental …

This research focuses on the development of the control system of a dual arm industrial robot. A controller for the position control of unconstrained robot arm is also presented. System architecture, hardware configuration and software development are discussed in detail; The experimental set-up consists Remotec's RM-10A dual arm manipulator. Each arm has six separate motorized motions with position sensors. The manipulator is controlled by a Texas Istruments' TMS320C40 parallel Digital Signal Processors installed on the QPC/C40B Board. Domestic violence and substance abuse have come to the forefront of the public's awareness in the last decade. This document focuses on the simultaneous occurrence of these phenomena and proposes that providers reconcile any possible differences in treatment and collaborate, if not integrate services. Providers must move beyond their respective theoretical approaches and form a new transtheoretical delivery approach to treatment in order to provide the best possible outcomes for clients. A test tunnel at Yucca Mountain is to be equipped with a mobile camera system, which can record images both at infrared and visible wavelengths at an ambient temperature to 300 degrees Centigrade (300{dollar}\sp\circ{dollar}C). This measurement is to be taken over the entire 50 meter length of the tunnel. The imaging apparatus consists of a remote section equipped with cameras, pan unit and wireless communication units, all of which must be designed to operate at 300{dollar}\sp\circ{dollar}C for up to 60 minutes. This study provides an analysis of music as a form of interpersonal communication by examining how independent singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco's music lyrics provide her listeners with a foundation for relationship formation based on empathy and self disclosure. This study divides DiFranco's song lyrics into three categories of folk music, more specifically, message, protest, and propaganda songs which provide her audience with an ideology to which her fans can relate. Additionally, DiFranco's messages fall into the psychological categories of emotion, perception, cognition, motivation, needs, and memory as well as the sociological categories which demonstrate how her messages reach society--through the folk …

Muscle Guarding During Kt-1000 Testing As Measured By Electromyography, Tedd James Girouard

Twelve anterior cruciate deficient ACL-D participants volunteered for the study to compare muscular activity before and during two different protocols of KT-1000 knee arthrometer testing (KT-1000). Muscular activity was measured by the amount of electrical activity in specific muscles which cross the injured knee by an electromyogram (EMG). The muscles being tested are the Semimembranosis (SM), the Rectus femoris (RF), the Biceps femoris (BF), the lateral head of the Gastrocnemius (LG), and the medial head of the Gastrocnemius. The resting test (Zero Newtons) involved placing the KT-1000 on a participant but not applying any force. The 89 Newton (89N) test …

The Nevada Basin and Range (NVBR) study unit of the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water-Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program is investigating the status of, trends in, and factors affecting water quality in the Las Vegas area. A principal objective of the investigation is to assess the effects of urbanization on the quality of area water resources. Las Vegas Wash is the surface-water outlet for the Las Vegas area. The wash transports stormwater runoff, shallow ground-water discharge, and tertiary-treated sewage effluent from the Las Vegas area to Las Vegas Bay of Lake Mead on the Colorado River.
