Management Arrangements For Specimen Shell Collection In Western Australia, 1995, Jonathon Hs Barrington, C A. Campbell

Fisheries Management Papers

The Specimen Shell Fishery in Western Australia is based on the collection of marine species of the phylum Mollusca for the purposes of display, collection, cataloguing, classification and sale. Specimen shells may be alive or dead at the time of take and include beach-washed shells. Fossilised shells do not constitute specimen shells. An Environmental Impact Statement: Designing Supportive Literacy Classrooms For Young Children, D. Ray Reutzel, Mary Wolfersberger

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

The physical environment of the classroom can be a powerful tool in support of literacy learning or an unrecognized and undirected influence (Loughlin and Martin, 1987). Teachers who organize, arrange, and dress up their classrooms intuitively understand that, "Every home, every classroom, every school contains a certain atmosphere" (Van Manen, 1986, p. 31). Although peripherally accepted as an important part of literacy instruction for many years, too little attention has been focused on what the literacy environment of the classroom brings to children and their learning. Recent research by Neuman and Roskos (1990, 1992) demonstrates a clear relationship between the …

Behavioral Basis Of Second Intermediate Host Specificity Among Four Species Of Haematoloechus (Digenea: Haematoloechidae), Scott D. Snyder, John J. Janovy Jr. Feb 1996

Behavioral Basis Of Second Intermediate Host Specificity Among Four Species Of Haematoloechus (Digenea: Haematoloechidae), Scott D. Snyder, John J. Janovy Jr.

John J. Janovy, Jr. Publications

Cercarial behavior patterns were examined in four species of frog lung flukes (Haematoloechus spp.). Cercariae of Haematoloechus complexus, Haematoloechus medioplexus, Haematoloechus longiplexus, and Haematoloechus varioplexus were exposed to three species of experimental arthropods and an inanimate control. The number of cercariae attached to an experimental host at 5 min postexposure was recorded. Haematoloechus longiplexus and H. complexus cercariae attached to experimental hosts at higher rates than cercariae of H. medioplexus and H. varioplexus. Cercariae of H. longiplexus attached to experimental hosts in approximately the same numbers as H. complexus, but H. longiplexus penetrated only damselfly naiads, …

Swiss American Historical Society Review

In 1971 Walter Lips, a specialist in agriculture, was invited by the US Department of Agriculture to visit some 20 farms in the United States. In that context he made numerous contacts with people of Swiss descent and became interested in their history. In 1990, Walter Lips published the article "Die thurgauische Auswanderung nach den USA," Thurgauer Beitrage zur Geschichte 127 (1990) which explored the 1855 to 1862 migration of Swiss of the Amriswil and Sommeri region who had converted to the Mormon faith. In his recent study he followed the trail of the Sprungers whom he found in …
