People Do Read Large Ads: The Law Of Advertising From Outer Space, Don E. Tomlinson, Rob L. Wiley
People Do Read Large Ads: The Law Of Advertising From Outer Space, Don E. Tomlinson, Rob L. Wiley
Federal Communications Law Journal
Although many may not be aware of it; the .technological capability currently exists to launch large, billboard-type advertisements into outer space. These ads could be as large as a full moon, and last for an almost infinite duration. Reaction to the possibility of space advertising has been generally negative, with many expressing concerns about the aesthetic effect of floating space billboards. One recent example of this is the proposal to launch a billboard containing the five-ring Olympic symbol in connection with Atlanta's hosting the 1996 Olympics, which was rejected by Mayor Maynard Jackson as "environmental pollution." Despite the fact that …
The Trial As Text: Allegory, Myth And Symbol In The Adversarial Criminal Process - A Critique Of The Role Of The Public Defender And A Proposal For Reform, Kenneth B. Nunn
UF Law Faculty Publications
A position of Federal Defender General should be created to enhance the public image of public defenders. Currently the adversarial system tends to favor prosecutors, making it hard for criminal defendants to obtain a fair trial. Semiotic theory shows how the criminal justice system reflects broader social discourse concerning crime. The defendants' rights are given symbolic representation but are not considered seriously. Criminals are set apart from the rest of society and regarded as undeserving of truly fair representation. The trial can be seen as an allegory demonstrating the guilt of the defendant.

"Show And Tell": An Analysis Of The Scope Of The Attorney-Client Waiver Standards, Roberta M. Harding
"Show And Tell": An Analysis Of The Scope Of The Attorney-Client Waiver Standards, Roberta M. Harding
Law Faculty Scholarly Articles
As today's society becomes increasingly litigious, document productions, a major discovery tool, are growing larger. One inevitable consequence of this phenomenon is the increased risk that communications protected by the attorney-client privilege may be inadvertently disclosed. Privileged communications may also be disclosed to an adversary under more questionable circumstances: specifically, the intentional, strategic disclosure of privileged information favorable to the disclosing party's position.
In any case involving the disclosure of privileged information, the court must initially decide whether the privilege is waived. To resolve this threshold issue courts apply one of the three waiver tests. If a court decides that …

An Authentic Life In The Law: A Tribute To James K. Logan, Irma S. Russell
Faculty Works
UMKC School of Law Professor Irma S. Russell reflects on the professional life and legacy of Judge James K. Logan, exploring his career as a model of integrity, intellect, and dedication to justice. Through the lens of her experiences as his former law clerk, Russell examines broader questions about what constitutes a meaningful and ethical life in the legal profession. Blending biography, personal reflection, and professional critique, Russell argues that authenticity in law arises from commitment to community, ethical responsibility, and the pursuit of the common good.
