A Series Of Sermons And Growth Experiences In Marital Covenant Love Relationships In The Ottawa East Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Vaudré Pierre Jacques Jan 1995

A Series Of Sermons And Growth Experiences In Marital Covenant Love Relationships In The Ottawa East Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Vaudré Pierre Jacques

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

In my interactions with my church members or more precisely with married couples, I have become aware of their idiosyncrasies in the realm of marital conflicts. It is hoped that this project will help to salvage marriages. However, this project is written from a preventive stance.

Method

In this project, a theological basis for marital covenant relationship was developed. Second, a series of five sermons and five growth seminars were conducted with some married couples and persons contemplating marriage. Third, pre- and post-questionnaires were distributed in order to assess the understanding of what is being discussed.

An Intellectual Approach To The Communication Of The Biblical Message To Secular People, Michele Buonfiglio Jan 1995

An Intellectual Approach To The Communication Of The Biblical Message To Secular People, Michele Buonfiglio

Doctor of Ministry Projects

One of the most important responsibilities given Christians is to "make disciples from all nations." This includes secular people. The communication of the biblical message to secular people is a complex and difficult assignment. The difficulty increases when secular people are intellectuals. Many currents of thought including philosophy and scientific understandings of reality have contributed to the formation of the Western secular mind.

In Part One of the dissertation, philosophical, theological, and scientific theories that have contributed to the development of the process of secularization are considered. The section culminates with a profile of secular people. The methods and strategy …

Crime In New Tourism Destinations: The Mall Of America, Reyes Garcia, Leland L. Nicholls Jan 1995

Crime In New Tourism Destinations: The Mall Of America, Reyes Garcia, Leland L. Nicholls

Visions in Leisure and Business

Mass tourism has resulted in the largest scale movement of goods, services and people in world history. Tourists' safety and security have become of primary importance. This research presents a preliminary investigation of the general characteristics of crime at, and near, the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, America's largest mall. This recreation/shopping destination has quickly evolved into an international destination attracting an estimated 40 million visitors per year. Crime rates did increase with the building of the Mall of America. It does, however, account for less than 11 percent of monthly crime calls in the City of Bloomington. Furthermore, …

Geophagy: Adaptive Or Aberrant Behavior, David E. Engberg Jan 1995

Geophagy: Adaptive Or Aberrant Behavior, David E. Engberg

Nebraska Anthropologist

Geophagy, clay or dirt eating, is a worldwide phenomenon of long historical precedence. Historically perceived as an irrational behavior, today, growing evidence supports the contention that earth eating has adaptive value. Case studies from Africa and the United States illustrate the practice. A literature review shows that three primary explanations have been offered to account for the presence of geophagy in human populations. The first argues that geophagy has medicinal value as an anti-diarrheal and as a dietary supplement in vitamin and mineral poor environments. The Second contends that geophagy is a culturally transferred practice. The third states that earth …

Cultural Materialism And The Teaching Of Media : The Lesson Of Raymond Williams, D. I. Mcritchie Jan 1995

Cultural Materialism And The Teaching Of Media : The Lesson Of Raymond Williams, D. I. Mcritchie

Theses : Honours

This study seeks to examine Raymond Williams' concern with media education and its relevance to contemporary curriculum in Western Australia. By means of a critical study of specific texts of Williams, it was intended to explore the possibility of refining the Western Australian Media Studies syllabuses from a cultural materialist perspective. Williams' writings lead to the conclusion that media education should be more specifically related to popular culture. The cultural materialist approach enables and encourages a close link between the Western Australian Media Studies syllabuses and students' own cultural experiences. Cultural materialism recognises that culture and society are in a …

Learning Centers To Facilitate A Multi-Age, Heterogeneous-Grouped Classroom, Kimberly Kvigne Jan 1995

Learning Centers To Facilitate A Multi-Age, Heterogeneous-Grouped Classroom, Kimberly Kvigne

Graduate Research Papers

Grouping by grade levels in school can facilitate subject matter and skill-driven curriculum centered on textbooks. Child centered programs focus on nurturing the potential of each child (Anderson, 1987). If schools are to offer all students equity and excellence, they must view all students as worthy and capable of learning. These three goals for educational programs can promote equity and excellence: (1) Students must be challenged to learn as much as they are capable of learning. (2) The personal-social development of students is an integral part of the program. Academic achievement must never be at the cost of personal development. …

Nels C Nelson: Danish-American Archaeologist, Kathleen Nielsen Carlson Jan 1995

Nels C Nelson: Danish-American Archaeologist, Kathleen Nielsen Carlson

The Bridge

There have been many Scandinavian immigrants who have left their hearts in the great American Southwest. Nels Christian Nelson, a Danish-American pioneer whom the Curator of the American Museum of Natural History chose "as one of the eight characters who shaped American archaeology"1 was one of them. What captivated this impoverished Danish teen-ager in the United States and finally in the arid high deserts of New Mexico? ·Perhaps a review of Mr. Nelson's life will paint a clearer picture of this adventuresome, intelligent Danish-American.

A Qualitative Analysis Of The Non-Lds Experience In Utah, Jesse Smith Bushman Jan 1995

A Qualitative Analysis Of The Non-Lds Experience In Utah, Jesse Smith Bushman

Theses and Dissertations

Utah's foundation under the influence of the LDS church, and the continued influence of the majority LDS population in the state make this area unique in the United States. This situation makes life for the non-LDS in Utah somewhat different than in other areas. Through a series of interviews with members of the Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist (National Baptist Convention), Buddhist, and Jewish faiths, this thesis produced a large body of qualitative data concerning the non-LDS experience in Utah.

The experience of non-LDS people in Utah can by typified, with a few exceptions, as a traditional majority/minority interaction. Elements of …
