A hypocoristicon is generally a single-element name resulting from the shortening of an originally longer one. Hebrew names and Semitic names in general, were often composed of two elements (or, as was often the case in Akkadian names and sometimes the case with West Semitic ones, three elements) which formed a nominal or verbal sentence.

Filling Gaps In The Close Corporation Contract: A Transaction Cost Analysis, Charles R.T. O'Kelley

This Article develops a more refined transaction-cost based theory which explains: why rational investors in jointly owned, closely held firms initially choose corporate form; why they leave the contractual gaps that they do; and how efficiency-minded judges should respond to postharmony disputes made possible by the form chosen and the gaps left. My theory takes into account not only the possibility that investors should have chosen partnership law, but also the advantages and disadvantages of organizing production as an implicit team, via long-term contracts between separate businesses or as a sole proprietorship. Charles Bell, Donald Paradis, and Shirley Tyler were tried in different states for murder. Each was convicted and sentenced to death. Charles Bell was represented at trial by a recent law school graduate who had never before tried a criminal case to completion. Donald Paradis's lawyer had passed the bar exam six months earlier, had never previously represented a criminal accused, and had not elected courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, or trial advocacy while in law school. Shirley Tyler's trial lawyer was also a member of the bar for only a few months. He had defended one previous assault …

This report describes a program used by a medium sized school system to increase the hiring of Black teachers. Areas of need that were addressed included selection of colleges and universities to be visited by members of the recruiting team. Inservice training for recruiters, communication with predominantly Black colleges and universities, and development of local strategies to increase Black teacher hiring.

The system charged a local task force of citizens and educators to study the problem and make recommendations. Through the office of the Director of Personnel, the system increased communication through mailings and telephone calls with placement directors of …

Substructuring is a technique in finite element analysis for solving mechanical engineering problems involving large structures which are too enormous for existing computer hardware and software to handle. This technique involves breaking the system into parts, analyzing the parts, and then re-assembling the total system using selected degrees of freedom from the parts. This thesis also provides a review of substructure theory as a background. The state-of-art involving different approaches of the method is presented . Determining The Educational Quality And Equity Among Students In Order To Set Goals As Part Of The Effective Schooling Process, Annie L. Justice

Two hundred-forty-seven elementary school students in selected school district in Georgia served as subjects for this study. The population mean scores on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in Reading, Language Arts, and Math were used in the assessment. A four-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) model was used to determine the educational quality and equity among students in order to set goals as part of the effective schooling process. Significant differences were found at the .05 level as a function of gender and race.

When we acknowledge the contradiction between the project's goal and the reality of group influence, we are led to consider the alternative strategy of creating community. Such a strategy would invite lawyers to begin a community dialogue regarding how each of our group identities, and the responses of others to our identities, interfere with our efforts to realize the goal of equal justice. While significant to the understanding of group dynamics, consideration of Jewish lawyering probably has limited value as a predictor of an individual lawyer's professional conduct. This study examines the human-induced ecological changes occurring in Point Pelee and Pukaskwa National Parks and Rondeau and Lake Superior Provincial Parks as a result of external threats, as well as the methods used by park managers to prevent these changes. The purpose of this project was to investigate various aspects of river channel stability as they relate to fish habitat. Two headwater creeks of the Credit River system, Black and Silver Creeks, and their confluent stream, the West Credit River in Southern Ontario were used in the study. Thirty-five cross-sections were established and revisited during four flow regimes, summer base flow, fall secondary peak flow, spring melt-high flow and post-spring high flow. Measurements of width, depth and temperature were taken at these times. Water samples were taken for determination of suspended sediment concentration. This qualitative research document provides an in-depth description of families’ experience of both developmental disability and mental illness (i.e., "dual diagnosis") across the life cycle. This thesis is devoted to listening to family members as they tell their story beginning with the early years of family life, then through childhood and adolescence, and into young adulthood with their family member. This research describes the process of how families developed a framework to interpret and make sense of the world around them. There has been no observational investigation of parental socialization of adolescent political thinking reported in the developmental literature to date. Following Berkowitz and Gibbs‘ (1983) work on moral development and dialogue, the techniques of integrative complexity of reasoning and transactive dialogue analysis were applied to mother-adolescent political discussions. Adolescent’s age and gender, family parenting styles, and family communication patterns were expected to affect the quality or nature of these discussions. In turn, variations in the discussions were anticipated to influence adolescents’ subsequent integrative complexity of reasoning (IC) scores on a post-test. Dangerous Supplements: Resistance and Renewal in Jurisprudence (1991 ), edited by Peter Fitzpatrick, is the first instalment in a new series, Law and Social Theory, being published by the progressive British publisher Pluto Press. As someone who had been subjected to an intensely positivistic- perhaps even authoritarian- jurisprudential, undergraduate education in Belfast, both the title and the dustcover intrigued me. The latter portrays a towering, seemingly unassailable, citadel with "jurisprudence" inscribed upon it, being bombarded by paper planes with the insignia of critical theory, semiotics, feminism, postmodernism and "new ideas." The authors present a case of tuberculosis peritonitis in the setting of alcoholic cirrhosis with ascites. A young American Indian male with alcoholic cirrhosis and ascites presented with low grade fever and weight loss. A diagnosis of tuberculosis peritonitis was made with laparoscopic guided peritoneal biopsy. He was treated successfully with isoniazid and ethambutol for 24 months. The diagnosis of tuberculosis peritonitis should be entertained in high risk populations such as American Indians, Asians, alcoholics, chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients, and AIDS patients in the appropriate clinical setting. Definitive diagnosis can usually be made by laparoscopic guided peritoneal biopsy.
