Hispanic Student Teachers' Practice Teaching In Cooperative Learning: Two Qualitative Case Studies, Myrna Colon Jan 1992

Hispanic Student Teachers' Practice Teaching In Cooperative Learning: Two Qualitative Case Studies, Myrna Colon

Dissertations

Purpose: A qualitative case study designed to look at two student teachers' practice teaching experiences using cooperative learning was undertaken during the 1990-1991 academic year. The purpose of the study was to gain insight into student teachers' perceptions in translating theory into practice. Joyce's training model of theory, demonstration, and practice with feedback was utilized to train student teachers in cooperative learning in the college and school setting.

The researcher was guided by four major questions: (1) What happens to the cooperative learning model when student teachers practice it in the school setting? (2) What happens to student teachers as …

Dissertations

Topic

The topic under study in this paper was the application of Gregorc's mind styles concepts in two baccalaureate and two post-baccalaureate physical therapy programs.

Purpose

The purpose was to determine how these concepts were used while addressing the teaching and learning theory competency of the accreditation standards.

Sources

I examined intra- and extra-classroom activities, noting how information on styles was given and/or modeled to the students. Gregorc's Energic Model of Styles formed the basis for style determination. The research design was multiple-case study (embedded). Accreditation documents, curriculum file materials, handout materials, and videotaped classroom sessions were interpreted to determine …

The Johannine Paroimia, Hyunsok Doh Jan 1992

The Johannine Paroimia, Hyunsok Doh

Dissertations

This investigation studied the use of the Greek term παροιμια in the Gospel of John. In chapter 1 modern and ancient writers who wrote about the παροιμια are reviewed as a background study. The discussions are mostly limited to the area of popular proverbs. The list of παροιμια in the period before the Fourth Gospel revealed that not only proverbial sayings but also idioms and maxims were included in the category of παροιμια. The use of the term in the Septuagint translation and in Philo's writings shifted from the earlier use of theterm because the former, in several places, …

The Use Of Nśʼ In The Pentateuch And Its Contribution To The Concept Of Forgiveness, Gudmundur Olafsson Jan 1992

The Use Of Nśʼ In The Pentateuch And Its Contribution To The Concept Of Forgiveness, Gudmundur Olafsson

Dissertations

This study investigated the use of the root nśʼ in the Pentateuch in an attempt to discover its semantic relationship to the concept of forgiveness. Survey of the available literature revealed a near vacuum in this area, apart from a couple of careful but brief treatments. Other studies were either very cursory or only partially relevant to the present study. Most writers tend to relegate the concept of forgiveness to the derived meaning of "remove" without substantiating it exegetically.

Cognate languages affirmed the existence of the root and its range of meanings. The widest range of meanings and closest affinity …

Guidelines For Campus Beautification With Special Reference To Seventh-Day Adventist Academies And Colleges In North America, Larry W. Boughman

Dissertations

Problem. Few recognize the potential between campus beautification and the enrichment of the institutional programs or the responsibility role of stewardship for school lands. Often, campus beautification has not been considered an important item in capital outlay.

Method. The study utilized the descriptive method. Literature was reviewed to gather concepts related to campus beautification that could be applied to SDA academies and colleges. Ideas were gathered from personal contacts with chairs of other institutions in the area of landscape architecture and from the fifty states that had published guidelines for campus beautification. On the basis of the ideas and information …

Rape And Responsibility, Lynne Henderson Jan 1992

Rape And Responsibility, Lynne Henderson

Articles by Maurer Faculty

I am a "lucky" survivor of a rape committed by a stranger - "lucky", because people believed me, a jury convicted the man of raping me, and he is still in prison ten years later. I know many women who have been raped who were not so fortunate, because they believed the rape was their fault, because no one else believed them, because they knew their rapist, or because they were married to him and it wasn't a crime. We share some things - the anger, the pain, the anguish, the fear - and not others; nevertheless, this is what …

They Can Be Heard!, Arthur Valeriano

Whittier Scholars Program

Within the content of the paper, a brief history of sign language in America was given. It was explained where it originated and developed. The implementation of sign language, and exactly how to use it, was described. The two areas of sign language (SEE) and ASL) were explained and described. My investigation of its use as a teaching method for the learning handicapped was then described. The results showed only small increases, but from personal observation, I feel that the method is successful. Through the development and completion of this project, I learned about the many aspects of signing, and …
