Magnetic Tuning Of A Microstrip Patch Antenna Fabricated On A Ferrite Film, P. J. Rainville, F. J. Harackiewicz

A square, single-feed patch, fabricated on a ferrite film, that produced orthogonally polarized, well-formed radiation patterns is described. The application of a small in-plane magnetic field tuned the frequency, and hence phase, of one polarization only. Prior work on patch antennas fabricated on bulk ferrite substrates demonstrated magnetic tuning, but only linear polarization was obtained. The results indicate that 1) thin ferrite films, which are monolithically integrable, may be useful for a magnetically tunable antenna, and 2) the radiation polarization of the patch can be varied by the application of a small in-plane magnetic bias field.

The relative performance of com hybrids grown under similar environmental conditions in 1992 is evaluated in this report. Information in the tables includes both 1992 and 1991-92 grain yields in bushels per acre (bu/acre); and 1992 test weight, moisture percentages of shelled com at harvest, final plant populations per acre, and stalk lodging percentages. The test trials reported in this publication were conducted by the Plant Science Department Crop Performance Testing Program, Agricultural Experiment Station.

Rangeland Leasing Markets In South Dakota, J. Cole, L. Janssen, M. Beautler

Research Bulletins of the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (1887-2011)

Most of the differences in leasing rates between private, tribal, and public rangelands are due to: ( 1) differences in tract characteristics (size, location, productivity); (2) management expenses associated with water development, fencing, fertilization, and weed control; and (3) differences in use rights by type of lease. Ranchers leasing private rangeland usually have a greater "bundle of rights," greater management flexibility and control over the rangeland tracts, and fewer administrative difficulties than ranchers leasing public/tribal agency lands. Furthermore, management input and extent of long-term improvements are usually greater on private rangelands. Consequently, private rangeland leases usually command higher lease rates.

The performance of a network subject to either state dependent or state independent flow control is investigated. In the state dependent case, the flow control policy is a function of the total number of packets for which the controller has not yet received an acknowledgement. In this case it is shown that the optimal flow control is a sliding window mechanism. The effect of the delayed feedback on the network performance as well as the size of the window are studied. In order to improve understanding of how planning and decision analysis relate, we propose a hybrid model containing concepts from both. This model is comparable to [Hartman90], with slightly more detail. Dominance is simple concept in decision theory. In a restricted version of our model, we give conditions under which dominance can be detected without search: that is, it can be used as a pruning strategy to avoid growing large trees. This investigation follows the lead of [Wellman87]. The conditions seem hard to meet, but may nevertheless be useful in forward-chaining situations without focus, such as [Breese87]. It may be …
