A History Of Gatt Unfair Trade Remedy Law--Confusion Of Purposes, John J. Barceló Iii

This paper presents an analytical history of anti-dumping and anti-subsidy law in GATT and its member countries. In recent years this body of ‘unfair trade remedy’ law has flourished in the western trading system. Important trading countries have adopted new or expanded anti-dumping and anti-subsidy laws and imposed trade-blocking remedies under them more frequently than ever before. I try to explain in this essay how and why these laws--which I view as protectionist--have prospered and become so rooted in GATT and its member countries.

The purpose of this research was to examine the issues surrounding the U.S. Air Force vehicle burden-sharing initiative with South Korea. In doing this, the study examined additional vehicle programs with the South Korean government as well as with NATO alliances to provide an historical background and insight into the concerns that faced vehicle managers with those programs. In addition, several transportation experts throughout the Department of Defense were interviewed for their perspective of the vehicle management issues which relate to these programs. Recent archaeological research in the New World has focused on slave dwellings and post-emacipation communities, providing a great deal of insight into slave life and the emergence of African-American culture. In contrast, the material record in West Africa has supplied little new information on the slave trade. Numerous European forts and barracoons serve as pervasive reminders of its existence. However, excavation of these sites is only likely to attest to the meagre possessions of the slaves and their treatment prior to the middle passage, offering little insight into their cultural and ethnic origins. Changes In U.S.-International Arms Trade Practices, Rustam S. Karmali

This study sought to highlight the evolution of certain trade practices in U.S.-international arms trade. Limited to the eighties, the study divided the decade into two halves: 1980-84 and 1985-89. For each of the nine trade practices considered, period profiles for the two halves were developed and subsequently compared. The population consisted of the eighteen largest (by dollar value) sales of the decade. They included Air Force, Navy and Army systems. Some programs were FMS programs while others were cooperative or direct commercial sales. The following results were noted: The second half of the decade witnessed some diversification in the …

The Army Education Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, has enrolled a large number of soldiers who are academically deficient in reading and mathematical skills in the Basic Skills Education Program (BSEP). Although a verbal courses of the BSEP are offered at Fort Bragg during the yeas, a great number of students is not raise their initial general technical scores (GT) to the minimum acceptable level of 100, and many students do not even complete the course. This study puts USAF War Reserve Materiel (WRM) into perspective. Its purpose is to serve as an introduction for those who wish to further their knowledge of USAF WRM prepositioning. To fully understand the relevant issues concerning the placement of critical European WRM stockpiles, several areas of research are encompassed in this review. An historical analysis of US military logistics is provided. Then, an overview of current, world-wide events taking shape around the world, with particular emphasis given to their effects on US decision-making strategies, is accompanied by a synopsis of both US and Soviet military doctrine.

This study assessed the challenges Tactical Air Force (TAF) aircraft maintenance personnel face as a result of the TAF reorganization. The goal was to provide aircraft maintenance managers a basis for evaluating and meeting those challenges. To accomplish this, emphasis was placed on documenting the concepts, events, and conditions which led to changes in military aircraft maintenance from the birth of aviation to the present. Current issues such as the proposed move to two-level maintenance and the formation of the TAF composite and Objective Wings were also addressed. This research study was limited to two cases(Afghanistan and Chad) involving humanitarian relief efforts low-intensity conflict. To explore the topic of military logistics support of relief efforts low-intensity conflict, a study of the land, people, government, economy and history of each country was accomplished to provide the background for each humanitarian relief effort. These variables, with a study of the low-intensity conflict aspect, U.S. policy goals, the actual humanitarian relief operation, and the military logistics support provided used to the question: 'What are the key elements to provide successful logistics support of humanitarian relief efforts during low-intensity conflict?

Canadian Indian education is a complex problem in Canada's history. For the native people, education is the only way to preserve their cultural tradition. For the government, it has been the main means to assimilate the natives into the mainstream of the society. Because the majority culture has dominated Canadian society for more than two centuries, the Canadian federal government's policy and its making are the keys to understanding Indian education.
