The Theodicy Of The Timaeus, Thomas M. Robinson
The Theodicy Of The Timaeus, Thomas M. Robinson
The Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy Newsletter
I suggest that any explanation of the Demiurge that has a chance of being correct must take into account the fact that he is invariably described in non-contingent terms, and the entities to which many have wished to reduce him (the world’s soul, or the rationality within it) in invariably and unambiguously contingent terms. This holds true despite Timaeus’s readiness to speak without apparent qualm of the Demiurge as either a father or a craftsman or both, or even - after the manner of Anaxagoras - to talk of him on occasion simply as Reason; whatever the variants in the …

Uniform Stationary-Phase Methods For Energy Spectra Resulting From Collisions In A Complex Potential: Penning And Associative Ionization Of He*(2³S)+He*(23s), Ronald James Bieniek, M. W. Muller, M. Movre
Uniform Stationary-Phase Methods For Energy Spectra Resulting From Collisions In A Complex Potential: Penning And Associative Ionization Of He*(2³S)+He*(23s), Ronald James Bieniek, M. W. Muller, M. Movre
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
Heavy-particle collisions involving strong electronic coupling can be conveniently described by using a complex (optical) potential in the entrance channel. Uniform JWKB stationary-phase techniques are used to evaluate T-matrix elements for transitions where an electron is ejected. The semi-analytic expressions for the resulting electron energy spectra are no more difficult to implement than corresponding ones for totally real potentials. Numerical results are reported for Penning and associative ionization from sub thermal He*(23S)+He*(23S) collisions. These are in excellent agreement with fully quantal, complex-potential computations. The stationary-phase expressions for T-matrix elements and differential cross sections are employed to elucidate the rapid and …
Projectile- And Target-Charge Dependent Effects In Ionizing Collisions Of H ⁺ And He 2+ With He, Ne And Ar Atoms, Timothy James Gay, M. W. Gealy, M. E. Rudd
Projectile- And Target-Charge Dependent Effects In Ionizing Collisions Of H ⁺ And He 2+ With He, Ne And Ar Atoms, Timothy James Gay, M. W. Gealy, M. E. Rudd
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
The spectra of electrons emitted in collisions between H + and He 2+ projectiles and He, Ne and Ar targets at energies of 50 and 100 keV amu -1 have been studied. The data are in qualitative agreement with results of Irby el al., but are in disagreement with measurements of Bernardi et al. It is shown that the observed electron spectra have a dependence on both target-ion and projectile effective charge that can be understood qualitatively in terms of 'saddle-point' ionization. Several issues relevant to saddle-point ionization are discussed. © 1990 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Muhlenberg County Heritage Volume 12, Index, Kentucky Library Research Collections
Muhlenberg County Heritage Volume 12, Index, Kentucky Library Research Collections
Muhlenberg County Heritage
“The Muhlenberg County [Kentucky] Heritage” was published four times a year by the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society in Greenville, Kentucky, from 1978 to 2001. The cover title sometimes appears as “The Heritage.” The publication’s purpose was to support the society and to publish information about the genealogy, culture, and history of Muhlenberg County. A separate annual index was printed each year for volumes 1-14. Afterwards, each issue was indexed separately. Generally, the index is to surnames only.

A Cytochemical Scanning Electron Microscopy Study Of Non-Specific Acid Esterase And Acid Phosphatase Activities In Human Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes, A. Campos, E. Fernández-Segura, J. M. García-López
Scanning Microscopy
We analyzed the distribution patterns of nonspecific acid esterase and acid phosphatase activities with cytochemistry-scanning electron microscopy in backscattered and secondary electron imaging modes in isolated normal human peripheral blood lymphocytes . The analysis of non-specific acid esterase activity in the backscattered electron imaging mode showed, in some cells, focal distribution with a well-defined, homogenous deposit. Two patterns of acid phosphatase activity were evident with the backscattered electron imaging mode, i.e., focal and granular. Peripheral blood lymphocytes showing focal activity of both enzymes presented a smooth surface with few scattered microvilli as seen with the secondary electron imaging mode ; …

Conventional And High Resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy Of Biological Sectioned Material, C. Scala, G. Cenacchi, P. Preda, M. Vici, R. P. Apkarian, Gianandrea Pasquinelli
Scanning Microscopy
Intracellular structures of embedded biological tissues (rat kidney, myocardium and small intestine) were observed by conventional-scanning electron microscopy (C-SEM) and high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM) after glass knife sectioning. C-SEM of semi -thin sections of material processed the same way as conventional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) provided strong backscattered electron (BSE)-dependent, two-dimensional secondary electron images (SEI(-)) which precisely integrated and further extended previous light microscopy (LM) observation of the same specimen. In addition, the three-dimensional (3-D) arrangement of intracellular organelles was appreciated using a mixture of acetone-soluble acrylic resin in place of epoxy resin embedding. Since the identification of such …
