In order to design a costume for a period show, a costumer must unify the personality of the character in the appropriate historical style with the director's concept for the production. My study endeavors to aid the costumer in search of the historical clothes of the Medieval and Renaissance court Fool. Lack of time to do extensive research often imposes limitations on a designer's creativity. Through extensive research. into Medieval and Renaissance art, with the aid of Robert Armin's jest book, and descriptions of the household accounts of the period, I have compiled a document that will save a harried …

Perspectives (1969-1979)

The vogue for interdisciplinary courses has led our more crusty and conservative colleagues to complain that such programs represent a mere repackaging of traditional courses, a process that diminishes the value the student receives from traditional courses without broadening or integrating his knowledge. Too often this criticism is just. We should like to argue that a genuinely interdisciplinary approach does not repackage but restructures knowledge in such a way that students are led to consider the nature of knowledge itself and thus, we hope, to think about their own thinking. Despite an urgent need, the reality is that today we have no unifying free speech theory. Instead, the recent decisions of the United States Supreme Court suggest that doctrinal confusion reigns. Ironically, I would suggest that the cause of the present doctrinal confusion is not that insufficient attention has been paid to technical free speech issues, but rather that modern first amendment thinking has been dominated by "balancers." The poverty of the balancing approach, be it ad hoc or definitional in character, stems from its reliance on pragmatic considerations rather than on fundamental principles embodied in the enduring legacy of …

Gift Tax Consequences Of Interest-Free Loans Between Family Members, Victoria Wilson, Thomas M. Poulton

University of Dayton Law Review

The recently decided case of Crown v. Commissioner reinforced the tax court's position that imputed interest on an interest-free loan is not a taxable gift. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) continues to take the contrary position that interest-free loans do constitute gifts of an amount equal to the interest charge that it usually made for the use of that amount of money.

The IRS position on the taxation of interest-free loans is consistent with both economic reality and gift tax principles. An examination of the economic substance of interest-free loans highlights the court's reliance on the form of the transaction. …

If the elementary teacher is to play a significant role in nutrition education, assessing their current status of nutrition knowledge is imperative. Such a data base can assist in determining the nature of educational efforts to adequately prepare elementary teachers for their role as nutrition educators. The primary objective of this research is to determine the present level of nutrition knowledge of elementary teachers in South Dakota. The findings of this study can assist state nutrition education program development by providing: (1) a representative picture of the nutrition knowledge of elementary teachers-presently in the field.
