The Development Of Graphic Art In Missouri, Ruth E. Fults Jan 1933

The Development Of Graphic Art In Missouri, Ruth E. Fults

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The development of the art of a people is closely inter-woven with the history and society of that group; the histories and societies of communities are very nearly parallel in the steps of human progress - even taking into consideration the complex cumulative character of progress and the subsequent advantages of later civilizations over old; so that, viewed as a whole or in sections, each normal development of art goes through fundamental states true alike in every other normal art-development. Art reflects in its development the society which produces it. For example, the evolution of art in the state of …

A Survey And Criticism Of The Public School Music Offered In Two Colored High Schools Of Houston, Texas, Wallace Lewis Wells

All Theses

Like other phases of education up to this time, in the South music was not regarded as a thing for the masses. We are indebted to Francis Hopkinson, an American who first composed American music, for a movement which was the first direct step toward the introduction of music into the schools of America. It was his music which acted as an impetus for a strictly American institution, "The hinging School".

This movement begun as a crude choir school, where singing was taught by "rule and art" . But it was soon adopted to the currents of social and political …

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree in 1932, examines the relative importance of heredity and environment in shaping human development across the life course. Drawing on educational psychology literature by Starch, Thorndike, Averial, James, Horne, and Dom Thomas Verner Moore, the thesis surveys competing theoretical positions on whether inherited traits or external conditions constitute the greater force in determining individual character, intelligence, and social behavior. The central argument of the thesis holds that heredity and environment are mutually dependent and cannot be meaningfully separated: instincts provide the …

Chamber Music As A Factor In Public School Music, Irma Belle Studley Jan 1933

Chamber Music As A Factor In Public School Music, Irma Belle Studley

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
