A Comprehensive Study Of The Elementary School Districts Comprising The Orland, California, Joint Union High School District, Charles K. Price Jan 1934

A Comprehensive Study Of The Elementary School Districts Comprising The Orland, California, Joint Union High School District, Charles K. Price

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The State of California has for some time been con- fronted with the great number of school districts, each an independent political division. In the past, several attempts have been made to enlarge these existing districts through consolidation or unionization, and provisions have been made in the school code whereby districts may consolidate. So far, little progress has been made. California, like many other states, has inherited the Now England tradition of the district school. This is the chief reason why she has to many school districts.

An Experiment In Supervision By The Conference Method, Wendell R. Hoar Jan 1934

An Experiment In Supervision By The Conference Method, Wendell R. Hoar

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The aspect of supervision that is particularly challenging to me is the problem of the present day. Our curricula have been so constructed, interpreted and planned that a high degree of integration and correlation should result, both vertically and horizontally. To realize these aims, teachers must have a great many conferences, both in groups and individually with the supervisor, who is usually the principle of the school

The conferences are needed not only to discuss the possibilities of integration and correlation, but to teach many of the teachers methods, objectives, devices, and projects for teaching the modern courses of studies …

A History Of Elko, Nevada : A Frontier Town, 1868-1890, Lester W. Mills Jan 1934

A History Of Elko, Nevada : A Frontier Town, 1868-1890, Lester W. Mills

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this paper is to present in brief form, far too brief for the wealth of material available, an account of the history of the town of Elko, Nevada. There has been no attempt to include in these pages all the interesting events which are traditional in the gossip of the town. Every effort has been made to include only such material as can be readily verified either by the memories of those still living who remember the events or, in cases where this has bailed or there has been an evident conflict of stories, by resort to …

Food For Children With Special Reference To Dietaries For Chinese Children, Dzi-Chi Gin Jan 1934

Food For Children With Special Reference To Dietaries For Chinese Children, Dzi-Chi Gin

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The chief functions of food may be said to be three--growth, maintenance and proper functioning. Food consists of those substances which yield energy, build tissue, or regulate body processes. The essential substances of an adequate food supply are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, mineral salts, water, cellulose and vitamins Obviously these requirements vary with each individual child, since height weight, shape, age, sex, and nervous tension must all be considered as determining factors in health, while any diseased condition, sometimes unsuspected, presents additional complications. The first special characters of Chinese food is the preponderance of cereal grain of one kind or another--rice, …

The Airplane As A Factor In Modern Transportation, Robert Fenix

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This paper was planned with the object of covering the history and development of air transportation from its incep- tion to the present time. The mythology concerning aviation has been taken up at the beginning and this has been followed by a discussion of the earliest experiments in flying. The activities of the Wright Brothers began about 1900 and in 1909 they sold the Wright Flyer" to the United States Govern- ment. The development of pre-war and wartime airplanes is next taken up.

The World War was significant in airplane history. During this period airplanes were improved tremendously, because of …

The Spanish Folksong In New Mexico, Tonia Ann Komadina Jan 1934

The Spanish Folksong In New Mexico, Tonia Ann Komadina

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

When the Spaniards came to New Mexico, driven by a lust for gold, they brought with them the tradition of song which has been an inestimable treasure for succeeding generations. Their descendants and the descendants of the settlers who came north from Mexico clung to the precedent established by their ancestors; they sang old songs, composed new ones, and passed them down to their children by word of mouth transmission.

In this study an attempt has been made to trace briefly the development of the song in its various forms, from the sixteenth century to the present day canción de …

A Comparative Analysis Of The Front Pages Of The Milwaukee Journal And The Wisconsin News Over A Three-Month Period, Commencing June 1, 1932, And Terminating August 31, 1932, William E. Daley

Bachelors’ Theses

The aim of this survey is to compare the front pages of the Milwaukee Journal, an Independent newspaper, and the Wisconsin News, a Hearst publication, over a given period of time, in this case three months, to secure as near an accurate conclusion, as is possible through this medium, of the essential variations and similarities between the papers, especially in news content, news selection, writing style, and typography.

Acting as show windows for its owners, the front pages exemplify and portray to their readers the policies that each newspaper believes are its most important selling points in regard …

The Influence Of The Number Of Readings On The Rate Of Forgetting., Yuba L. Hunsley

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The object of the investigation was to find the relation of retention to the number of readings of factual prose articles and to the study of other factors which may influence retention. Students of the freshman and sophomore college classes were used as subjects. The experimental material consisted of reading material of highly factual articles and objective tests. Memory was measured at the end of two weeks after one, two, three, four and five readings. The other factors investigated in relation to memory ability were the effect of rereading upon retention, sex differences, and the correlation of retention of factual …
