An Analysis Of The Habitat Distribution Of The Vertebrate Fauna Of A Stream- Bank Association In Western Kansas, Olive Falls Sep 1933

An Analysis Of The Habitat Distribution Of The Vertebrate Fauna Of A Stream- Bank Association In Western Kansas, Olive Falls

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

This present paper is chiefly concerned with the distribution of animals. The environmental and faunal conditions of Western Kansas have not been studied, and they are rapidly changing, due to human occupancy of the region. Therefore, a major object of this report is to put on record information in regard to the present vertebrate animal life in Western Kansas. Profound changes in the native conditions have already been recognized; for example, many animals have become extinct, and others are gradually vanishing. It is in the hope of contributing something of the facts of the status of the species in this …

State Legislation And State Board Rulings Relating To Superintendents Of Schools, Carl A. Clark Aug 1933

State Legislation And State Board Rulings Relating To Superintendents Of Schools, Carl A. Clark

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The problem of this thesis is to show what specific legislation the states now have in force relating to superintendents of schools and also to what extent state board rulings now in effect relate to them. No attempt is made to determine what legislation or rulings should be made by the states or state boards. It is merely a compilation of laws and regulations as they now exist. The thesis embraces a study of the latest available school laws of each state and additional information relating to state board rulings, secured from letters or pamphlets received from the offices of …

The Growth Of Criminal Law In Ancient Greece, Robert F. Larkin Aug 1933

The Growth Of Criminal Law In Ancient Greece, Robert F. Larkin

Bachelors’ Theses

When I first undertook to write a thesis upon this subject I thought that, since the Greeks were noted for their politics, there would be material aplenty upon the subject of ancient law but I was destined to disappointment. After some study I found that most of the books upon the subject were founded chiefly upon the ancient classics and not upon proven facts. Bearing this thought in mind I set out to discover just how ancient criminal law did evolve and my discoveries are set out in the following pages.

Perhaps the greatest help was the fairly recent book …

A Comparison Of The Fables Of La Fontaine With The Fables Of Aesop, Mary Louise Dougherty Aug 1933

A Comparison Of The Fables Of La Fontaine With The Fables Of Aesop, Mary Louise Dougherty

Bachelors’ Theses

In this Thesis, La Fontaine and Aesop will be studied and compared by means of those works of theirs which are, perhaps, the best remembered: The Fables.

La Fontaine's and Aesop's Fables are well known for the moral inculcated in each. They have always in mind one purpose ... to teach the reader. La Fontaine used many of the Fables of Aesop as a background for his own Fables. Those of Aesop possessed no graces of style, and so La Fontaine added graces of style to those he wrote.

Readjustment Of The Curriculum To Meet The Needs Of Adolescents, Demaris Vernice Scott Aug 1933

Readjustment Of The Curriculum To Meet The Needs Of Adolescents, Demaris Vernice Scott

All Theses

The writer, having taught school for many years, and having come in close contact with adolescents both in school and home, has noticed their attempts to adjust themselves to the world around them. Bewildered at what life offered them some were forced into positions that caused them to become social misfits. The home often offered nothing to them, and it became the duty of the school to select some trait and develop it, create an atmosphere that would bring new ideas and aspirations. The writer is familiar with the average course of study and its failure to meet the needs …

A Generalized Kronecker Symbol And Cubic Determinants, Lota Lucile Campbell Aug 1933

A Generalized Kronecker Symbol And Cubic Determinants, Lota Lucile Campbell

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

The object of this thesis is to present a further generealization of Kronecker's symbol and apply it to cubic determinants.

Part I contains preliminary work on the Kronecker smbol as generliazed by Murnaghan, and applied to the plane determianntns. It includes only material that is necessary in the explanation of part II.

In part II we make a further generalization by defining a symbol composed of three rows of indices. The elementary properties of this symbol are given, the cubic determinant is define by means of the generalized symbol, and certain theorems on cubic determinants are demonstrated.

These theorems were …

The Action Of Tertiary Butyl Hypochlorite On Certain Nitrogen Compounds, Myrl Lichtenwalter Aug 1933

The Action Of Tertiary Butyl Hypochlorite On Certain Nitrogen Compounds, Myrl Lichtenwalter

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

In an earlier unpublished study, made in this laboratory, of the preparation and properties of positive halogen compounds, it was found that the replacement of hydrogen on an imide nitrogen in certain compounds sensitive to hydrolytic agents could be accomplished in tertiary butyl alcohol solution. It seemed likely that this reaction took place through the intermediate formation of tertiary butyl hypochlorite. Such mechanism has been proposed by Sandmeyer to account for the formation of chlorylimino ethyl carbonate by the action of chlorine on an alcoholic solution of potassium cyanide. The isolation of tertiary butyl hypochlorite by Chattaway and Brackenburg makes …

The Historical Development And Settlement Of The North Pacific Sealing Controversy, Ary Lillie Lewis Aug 1933

The Historical Development And Settlement Of The North Pacific Sealing Controversy, Ary Lillie Lewis

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

"The Alaskan fur seals constitute the most valuable fishery resource that any government in the world ever possessed", said George M. Bowers, commissioner of fisheries, in a report to the bureau of fisheries in 1909. It was for the preservation and protection of this wonderful resource, that the United States entered into an international controversy that lasted nearly half a century.

The general purpose of this study is to show how the controversy developed and the steps involved in making a successful settlement. Since there are many factors other than political and legal which played a part in the perpetuation …

The Relationship Between Chemical Constitution And Insecticidal Activity Iii : The Synthesis Of Some Typical Cyclic Esters And Their Insecticidal Activity, Carl Orlando Schilling

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Apparently it is not possible, at this present stage of development, to formulate any rigorus rules correlating chemical constitution with insecticidal action, and in agreement with such inadequate knowledge, it is extremely difficult to predict with any confidence the insecticidal action of new organic compounds. [...] A study of each of the various groups in the pyrethrins should lead to an extension of our knowledge of their specific contribution, if any, to insecticidal activity. Such a study is now in progress, and this thesis reports one phase of that problem, namely, the insecticidal activity of esters of some cyclic acids, …

An Annotated Bibliography Of Books And Stories Suitable For First Grade Children Listed According To Units Of Work, Velda Mae Williams Aug 1933

An Annotated Bibliography Of Books And Stories Suitable For First Grade Children Listed According To Units Of Work, Velda Mae Williams

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Modern reading experts believe that the fundamental goal of a good reading program is to instill in today's children a love of reading. One basic requisite of the primary reading program is a wide variety of easy reading material that a child can read and enjoy freely and naturally just as an adult does. Interesting, attractive books are provided in abundance for young readers by the publishers of children's books. However, there is a great deal of evidence to show that many of these books are introduced from one to three years before the average student has the background experience …

Corynebacterium Diphtheriae As Antigen In Complement Fixation, Viola Opal Green Aug 1933

Corynebacterium Diphtheriae As Antigen In Complement Fixation, Viola Opal Green

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Early in one's experience in a chemical laboratory he becomes acquainted with various tests which are commonly used for the detection of one chemical substance or another. Thus, for example one soon learns the value of iodine in the detection of starch, of Fehling's solution in the demonstration of the presence of protein, and of the Marsh test in proving the existence of Arsenic in various materials, et cetera. What these tests are to the chemist, precipitation, agglutination, complement fixation and the like, are to the immunologist.

Of the biological tests named, immunologists recognize complement fixation as the most sensitive …

Some Relationships Between Psychological Examinations Scores And Scholastic Marks Of College Freshmen, Vaughn E. Mccoley Aug 1933

Some Relationships Between Psychological Examinations Scores And Scholastic Marks Of College Freshmen, Vaughn E. Mccoley

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Reliable estimates of an individual student's fitness for college work are important in determining whether or not he should be admitted to college. Prominent educators and others interested in our educational system realize that before we permit a candidate to enter college we should answer two questions concerning him. (1) Can this candidate probably maintain a satisfactory record in his college studies? (2) If so, is he, in other respects also the sort of individual whom we want in our student body?

In this study we have confined ourselves to the question of the candidate's scholastic ability. We want to …

The Use Of Standardized Test In Elementary Schools, Ernestine Walton Mcneil Aug 1933

The Use Of Standardized Test In Elementary Schools, Ernestine Walton Mcneil

All Theses

Education is gradually becoming less a custom and more of a science. The development of modern educational psychology is bringing about changes of management and method that are little short of revolutionary. Among the men's recent ideas there are some that seem pregnant with tremendous possibilities for the improvement of educational procedure. The most far reaching in its beneficial possibilities seems to be the idea of measuring the results of teaching and the intelligence of school children by means of standard tests.

In classifying elementary school pupils, it is too often the opinion of classroom teachers that tests are primarily …

The New Mexican Decima, Reginald C. Reindorp Jul 1933

The New Mexican Decima, Reginald C. Reindorp

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

Introduction. In the study here presented an attempt has been made to gather as many decimas as possible in one source so that they will be easily accessible for future reference and study and to give a few pertinent remarks concerning them.

The material presented in appendix 1 does not represent all of the decimas known in New Mexico, but is probably sufficient in quantity to ensure a sample of all types. Last attempts to obtain additional material resulted in securing only duplicates of decimals already at hand. However there is doubtless other material to be had in remote sections. …

Some Psychological Factors In The Study Of Geography, Myra J. Rasmusson Jul 1933

Some Psychological Factors In The Study Of Geography, Myra J. Rasmusson

Bachelors’ Theses

Running all the way through the study .and teaching of geography is a network of psychological factors. The very definition of the word geography brings in the human element. In the study of geography the problems of man's psychological responses to, and controls of his environment, cannot be avoided. In the teaching of geography the psychological basis of the general educative and the geographic objectives must be considered. But the psychological factors of the child's nature and of the learning process are the points of greatest importance to the teacher.

The Technique Of Shakespeare's Early Comedies, Mary Alice Procissi Jul 1933

The Technique Of Shakespeare's Early Comedies, Mary Alice Procissi

Bachelors’ Theses

In this thesis I have attempted to trace the dramatic technique of the early comedies of Wiilliam Shakespeare. As a setting for the development of my thesis, "The Technique of Shakespeare's Early Comedies" I have given a brief history of the rise of the Shakespearean drama, showing the relation of the early dramatists to Shakespeare as a writer of comedy, including also a sketch of the Elizabethan theatre. Under the definition of the term technique, I include chiefly a division of his plays into acts and scenes, character drawing, source of plot and treatment of plot.
