A Study Of The Senate Of The United States During The Civil And The World War And Its Relationship With The President, Loren E. Jarrell Jun 1935

A Study Of The Senate Of The United States During The Civil And The World War And Its Relationship With The President, Loren E. Jarrell

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

In making this study it has been the purpose to compare and contrast the relations of President Lincoln with his Senate and those of President Wilson with his senate. We must realize that Wilson had four free and comparatively peaceful years to devote to his domestic policies, while the Civil War was the fundamental business of Lincoln's whole administration; hence, he had time for only a cursory consideration of what would have been, in ordinary times, pressing domestic problems.

Attempted Proofs Of The Differentiation Of Magmas By Syntexis, Clifford Wendel

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

This investigation was an effort to obtain proof of the much disputed principle that most of the observed magnetic differentiations have been due to the assimilation, or syntexis, of the intruded country rocks.

Notes On The Distribution Of Amphibia And Reptilia Of Ellis County, Kansas, Lawrence A. Brennan May 1935

Notes On The Distribution Of Amphibia And Reptilia Of Ellis County, Kansas, Lawrence A. Brennan

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

Comparatively little has been done concerning the listing or recording of the Amphibia and Reptilia of Ellis County, Kansas. What records there are of the species are for the most part unpublished. Early papers dealing with Kansas herpetology are few in number. Little has been done in Ellis and the surrounding counties, so there seems to be a need for such an ecological study as has been carried out in this paper “Notes on the Distribution of Amphibia and Reptilia of Ellis County, Kansas . " The objectives kept in mind in preparing this report have been to attempt to …

Supplementary Reading Materials For Primary Grades Based On Children's Reading Interests And On Natural And Factual Data Pertaining To Kansas, Miriam Picking

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

Childhood education has made rapid advancement during the past quarter of a century. It is no longer considered by leading educators as something to be imposed from without, but is rather thought of as the gradual unfolding of life from within. This modern concept includes both the child and the subject matter to be taught. From the child's point of view such factors as innate ability, social traits, also the physical development as well as mental development, as well as mental development, serve as guides in setting up goals of achievement for the primary school grades. In the selection and …

The Effect Of Sodium Fluoride On The Bright Plating Range Of Chromium, Ernst Curschmann May 1935

The Effect Of Sodium Fluoride On The Bright Plating Range Of Chromium, Ernst Curschmann

Bachelors’ Theses

Chromium is used very extensively at the present time as an exterior plate over other metals. It has found favor not only because of its brilliant blue, untarnishable lustre, but also because of its extreme hardness. The great increase in the demand for chromium plate in recent years, rapidly relegating nickel plate into the background, has resulted in increased research and experimentation .in the field of chromium plating, in the endeavor to provide a lasting, beautiful plate at a minimum of expense.

Present chromium plating baths containing sulphuric acid as the active agent of deposition leave much to be desired …

A History Of The Indian Missions Of The Presbyterian Church In Kansas, David Harold Mccleave May 1935

A History Of The Indian Missions Of The Presbyterian Church In Kansas, David Harold Mccleave

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The beginnings of the missionary activity of the Presbyterian Church date back to the colonial days of the eighteenth century. In point of American historical chronology, the missionary work of the Presbyterians among the Indians in what is now Kansas, southwestern Missouri and east central Oklahoma was inaugurated in the same decade that witnessed the War of 1812. It was my original intention to confine, this research to a consideration of the Indian missions established by the Presbyterian Church in that part of the Indian Territory which has now become the State of Kansas. There were five such mission stations …

E, Doyle K. Brooks May 1935

E, Doyle K. Brooks

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

The meteoric splendor of the transcendental constant e is an intriguing mystery. It rises unexpectedly from nowhere, brilliantly illuminates some obscure mathematical concept, points to its solution, and abruptly fades into oblivion. Its unheralded visitation leaves the student wiser but wondering, tantalized by its omnipotence in apparently unrelated fields. Ever since his first introduction to e in elementary logarithms it has seemed to the writer that all the authors of textbooks are in a conspiracy to defeat any real knowledge of e. They say "2.71828… , called e, is the base of Naperian logarithms." Why? "The derivative of eX is …

Religion In The Virginia Statutes, Earnest T. Gearheart Jr May 1935

Religion In The Virginia Statutes, Earnest T. Gearheart Jr

Honors Theses

This work began as a listing of abstracts of laws pertaining to religion and an investigation of those institutions revealed therein; but its scope has enlarged to consist of a listing of those laws, an index to that list, and a fairly extended history of the evolution of real religious freedom in Virginia. Mr. P. A. Bruce and others have covered the field of describing those institutions far better than I could, so that there was no use attempting to duplicate their work. My efforts have been directed to studying the source and effect of those laws which were most …

Electrolytic Recovery Of Copper And Zinc From Brasses, Thomas Barker Jr. May 1935

Electrolytic Recovery Of Copper And Zinc From Brasses, Thomas Barker Jr.

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Reclaimed metals, or secondary metals, are becoming of great importance in the metal industries of the world. Secondary metals are an important factor in production. The increase in the secondary production of copper is due to many factors. One of these may be its permenance, that is, the metal does not corrode very readily. Another reason for increase in production is the high price paid for it.

The district is situated about four miles to the east and northeast of Whitehall in the southern end of the Bull Mountains which are near the Continental Divide. The first reported production was in 1896 after the discovery of the Mayflower Mine. Mining has been carried on intermittently and on a small scale since that time.

The Electrodeposition Of Manganese From Certain Aqueous Solutions, Fred J. Hill May 1935

The Electrodeposition Of Manganese From Certain Aqueous Solutions, Fred J. Hill

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Careful examination of the literature available shows that the electrodeposition of manganese from various aqueous solutions has not been attempted to any great extent. The best method for the electrodeposition of pure manganese consists in the electrolysis of a solution containing manganous and ammonium sulphates.

A Cytological Study Of Spermatogenisis In Anasa Tristis (De Geer), Eldon J. Gardner

Biology

This study has included the collecting of specimens, preparation of the material for microscopic examination and the tracing of the process of spermatogenesis in the common squash bug, Anasa tristis (De Geer). Live bugs were kept throughout the summer (1934) on squash vines in Logan and abundant material was obtained. Ninety-four slides showing sections of twenty-one testes from fourteen different bugs were prepared by various methods. The best slides were made from material fixed in Bouin’s solution and imbedded in paraffin. Some were stained with Delafield’s haematoxylin and eosin as a counterstain and others were stained with iron haematoxylin by …

A Preliminary Survey Of Some Of The More Important Insects Of The Cache National Forest, Theodore O. Thatcher May 1935

A Preliminary Survey Of Some Of The More Important Insects Of The Cache National Forest, Theodore O. Thatcher

Biology

Studies of forest insects in America have been, in the past, principally undertaken only in cases of serious outbreaks, and little or no attention has been paid to determinations of the presence of potential pests. Especially is this true of the western United States where forest conservation has received practically no consideration other than fire control and attacks upon serious pest outbreaks, However, of late years it has taken a more important position in public planning with the Civilian Conservation Corps being utilized in reforestation and insect control programs throughout the nation. Little effort has been made to study the …

Conductivity Applications, Henry W. Koch May 1935

Conductivity Applications, Henry W. Koch

Bachelors’ Theses

Since the introduction of Arrhenius’ theory of electrolytic dissociation more than forty years ago, many applications of the chemistry of electrolytes have been formulated. Of the many uses of conductance measurements, conductivity titrations have lately assumed the theoretical and technical importance which they rightfully should have. Conductance measurements enjoy prominence both in practice and in research, and the almost unlimited field provides a wealth of material for the ardent electrochemist. There is no doubt that many of the old analytic methods will soon be largely supplanted by this newer procedure which even at the present finds such varied usefulness.

The Staining Effect Of The Hydrochloric Acid-Chromate Trioxide Solution On The Minerals Of The Chalcocite-Stibnite-Galena Ternary System., John W. Johns Jr.

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The object of this work has been to devise a method by which the different phases in the chalcocite-stibnite-galena ternary system may be identified. As the mineralogists have no precise methods for the identification of these phases, a hydrochloric acid-chromate trioxide staining solution was employed.

The Separation Of Tungstic Oxide From Scheelite And Its Subsequent Reduction With Hydrogen, Dave Jones May 1935

The Separation Of Tungstic Oxide From Scheelite And Its Subsequent Reduction With Hydrogen, Dave Jones

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The largest known deposits of tungsten ores occur in the continuation of the Indo-Malayan Mountains, which extends through Burma, Malaya, China, Japan, and Chosen. Production of tungsten concentrates was started in 1910 in Burma, and in 1911 this country was the world's largest producer. China produced but little until 1916, but has since supplied over fifty per cent of the world's requirements.

Microscopic Study Of Montana Silver Ores., Edwin Johnson May 1935

Microscopic Study Of Montana Silver Ores., Edwin Johnson

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

A microscopic investigation of the Montana silver minerals was conducted. This study consisted mainly of identifying the silver and silver-bearing minerals and of determining their paragenetic relationships. The increasing amount of research in which the reflecting microscope is employed is evidence of the great value of this method of approach in the solution of problems of paragenesis of the opaque minerals.
