Policies Of Buchanan And Lincoln With Regard To Major Anderson's Command At Charleston Harbor, Harry L. German Aug 1935

Policies Of Buchanan And Lincoln With Regard To Major Anderson's Command At Charleston Harbor, Harry L. German

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

The occupation of the national fortifications in Charleston harbor by the command of Major Robert Anderson in itself offers to the student or American history a stirring story. It is a tale of a small and gallant band surrounded by a overwhelmingly hostile force which threatened to attack them at any moment. Though uninformed of the intent and purpose of their own government and knowing they could make but a futile defense, they were determined to resist to the utmost any efforts to seize the forts in their possession.

Studies On The Contact-Insecticidal Activity Of Organic Compounds, Part V, Richard Salathiel Aug 1935

Studies On The Contact-Insecticidal Activity Of Organic Compounds, Part V, Richard Salathiel

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Graphic structural formulae for organic molecules, the "shorthand" of organic chemistry, are interpretations of chemical reactions. A structural formula embodies a concise expression of the chemical properties of the compound. The correlation between chemical structure and physical properties is incomplete and often somewhat uncertain. Structural formulae do however enable a better understanding of many physical properties.

Whether or not chemical structure bears definite relationship to physiological properties is, as yet, in most cases uncertain. The organic structures of many drugs have been proved, and more or less definite relationships between structure and drug action have been established.

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Excerpt: "The adjustment of boys and girls during their adolescence to the realities of their environments is a major function of the secondary school, or of education in all grades. In conventional practices, the high school has conceived its function to be that of subject matter teaching. It has to some extent disregarded any adjustment other than obedience and learning the subjects. A Dissertation Of Poe's Literary Principles As Illustrated By His Prose Narratives, Dan Jean Tewell

The value of a study of the literary principles of Edgar Allan Poe as exemplified by his prose narratives lies in the interpretation it affords of the stories of Poe that are commonly read and in a consequently increased appreciation of Poe's works. Furthermore, it naturally follows that one who studies a great master of the short story comes under the influence of a great mind and is able to study the best short story technique …
