Microradiography With Metal Powders, Wallace Kluck Jun 1946

Microradiography With Metal Powders, Wallace Kluck

Bachelors’ Theses

Microradiography is a comparatively recent development in the X-ray field. The term applies to the analysis of a thin specimen by photographing it with X-rays and subsequently enlarging the photograph to bring out minute structural elements. A microradiograph has several advantages over a photomicrograph. First of all it goes beyond the surface and reveals the internal structure of the specimen, a more important advantage at least as concerns this paper is the ability of the microradiograph to enable one to accurately determine the chemical elements making up the specimen.

The Effect Of Some Electrolytes On The Critical Solution Temperature Of The Phenol-Water System, Donald Gerald Leavitt Jun 1946

The Effect Of Some Electrolytes On The Critical Solution Temperature Of The Phenol-Water System, Donald Gerald Leavitt

Bachelors’ Theses

A classical example of a system of liquids exhibiting partial miscibility is the phenol-water system. One of the earliest binary systems of this type to be Investigated, it has been the subject of much research and experimentation during the past sixty years. Its critical solution temperature has been determined by a multitude of investigators, the effect of a third component upon the system has been studied and many generalizations concerning partially miscible binary systems have been derived from these undertakings.

The studies which have been carried on regarding this system have been chiefly of theoretical interest, although in recent years …

A Study Of The Lassaigne Test For Nitrogen, Marion Ann Stout Jun 1946

A Study Of The Lassaigne Test For Nitrogen, Marion Ann Stout

Bachelors’ Theses

The elementary analysis of an organic compound is a determining factor in the characterization of the compound. The problem of this analysis was first encountered in organic characterization class where it was impossible to obtain a satisfactory test for nitrogen using the Lassaigne Method. It is the purpose of this thesis to testout the Lassaigne method under various conditions and to determine a set of conditions hereby the test will be positive.

The Synthesis And Some Physical Properties Of Certain Aromatic Fluorides, John W. Weldon Jun 1946

The Synthesis And Some Physical Properties Of Certain Aromatic Fluorides, John W. Weldon

Bachelors’ Theses

The late discovery of methods of introduction of fluorine into organic compounds has retarded to some extent the commercial use of organic fluorides. The indirect methods used also prevented general preparation of fluorocompounds. However, the characteristic stability of many fluorine compounds has warranted both the preparation of numerous aromatic and aliphatic fluorides as well as a search for new methods of preparation. It 1s the purpose of this thesis to delineate the present methods of synthesis of aromatic fluorides and to show the influence of the substitution of fluorine on some of the physical properties of aromatic compounds.

A Graphical Solution For Batch Steam Distillation Of A Binary Mixture., Howard D. Carlson 1921-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The theory for the graphical solution of batch steam distillation of a binary mixture is presented and illustrated. The results obtained from this graphical procedure are compared with actual experimental results. The comparison showed very close agreement between the graphical results and the experimental results. Three sets of experimental data are shown for benzene-bromobenzene mixtures and one complete set for benzene-toluene mixtures.

Interpretation Of Prominent Terms In The Ideology Of Progressive Education, Mary Graham Weeth Jun 1946

Interpretation Of Prominent Terms In The Ideology Of Progressive Education, Mary Graham Weeth

Student Work

Progressive education uses the terminology of education but apparently places particular connotations on certain terms which are noticeable prominent in the ideology of Progressive Education. The very ubiquity of these terms is proof of their importance in the philosophies of Progressive Education. Since certain terms are so prominent, their connotations may well be assembled for educational examination. It is well to observe definitely wherein these connotations vary from the general connotations attached to these same terms.

Erasmus And The German Reformation, Roland H. Seboldt May 1946

Erasmus And The German Reformation, Roland H. Seboldt

Bachelor of Divinity

To understand the attitude of Erasmus, it is necessary to look into the background of his times and to study the early influences upon his life. The life span of Erasmus covered a period of events which was a time of great flux and change. It was in this period that the Middle Ages gave way to modern times. Feudalism and serfdom were losing their prominence. Humanism spread over Europe from its cradle in Italy. Scholastic philosophy was losing its hold, bowing to the efforts of the humanists, mystics, and reformers.

The Relation Between Justification And Sanctification In Romans, Albert A. Behnke

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this thesis is to present the relationship which exists in St. Paul's Letter to the Romans between Justification and Sanctification. From time to time this “mother and her child” have fared differently from various groups of religious minded people. In their devotion to the “mother" some have forgotten "her child" or at the most given it scant attention, resulting in cold formalism and dead or the orthodoxy until finally even the mother" herself died. Others beholding this devotion to the "mother" to the utter neglect of the "child” began to espouse the cause of the child until …

The Approach To The Unchurched, Earl Schmiesing May 1946

The Approach To The Unchurched, Earl Schmiesing

Bachelor of Divinity

If God really sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to be the Savior of all men, then the most pressing and urgent task of every Christian is to bring this message to the entire world. It is a Satanic paradox for the Christian who has accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior to stand idly by while countless millions of souls about him are heedlessly rushing to eternal perdition. The mission of the Christian church rests upon certain facts clearly taught in the Scriptures.

Compulsory Military Training From The Viewpoint Of The Church, Herman J. Grimm May 1946

Compulsory Military Training From The Viewpoint Of The Church, Herman J. Grimm

Bachelor of Divinity

Therefore it is important that we discuss compulsory military training from the viewpoint of the church. We will consider the various plans which have been proposed to provide this compulsory military training for the youth of the nation. We will examine the relation between compulsory military training and the church. We will take note of the principal arguments before the public, and give attention to the arguments both for and …

The Doctrine Of The Resurrection Of The Body As Taught In The Pauline Espistles, Norbert Becker May 1946

The Doctrine Of The Resurrection Of The Body As Taught In The Pauline Espistles, Norbert Becker

Bachelor of Divinity

It is our purpose to present the entire teaching of Paul on the fundamental doctrine of the resurrection. In the course of the positive presentation of Paul's teaching it will become clear that he nowhere contradicts himself but that he is consistent throughout. It will also become evident that Paul's doctrine of the resurrection is in complete harmony with the teachings of Jesus and with other parts of Scripture. When we speak of Pauline theology, therefore, we simply refer to the doctrines contained in Paul's epistles.
