The Jewish Marriage Customs At The Time Of Christ, Erich Henry Kiehl
The Jewish Marriage Customs At The Time Of Christ, Erich Henry Kiehl
Bachelor of Divinity
The family is “the primary social group and the wellspring of all civic and national life.” It is the basis of society. It conditions the moral health and tone of a nation, of an age. If the home is corrupted, the nation is on the way to destruction. To raise the moral standards of a nation we must begin, with the home. The future of a nation is conditioned by the homes that it fosters. The success or failure of a nation lies in the home.

Daughters Of Serbin, 1870-1905 History Of The Lutheran Churches At Fedor And Warda, Texas, Arthur C. Repp
Daughters Of Serbin, 1870-1905 History Of The Lutheran Churches At Fedor And Warda, Texas, Arthur C. Repp
Bachelor of Divinity
The history of St. Paul's congregation, as it was later called, with its doctrinal, racial, and language disputes, has already been told. But the story of its first daughters, the congregations which were organized at Fedor and Warde, Texas, is equally important for it shows how the parent and branch congregations influenced one another and how they in turn become one of the strong nuclei around which the present Texas District of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States was formed.

A Survey Of Representative Lutheran Preachers Concerning Technical Language In The Exposition Of Selected Doctrines, Theodore W. Schubkegel
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this paper is to show that simple language is basic to all the excellencies of effective speech. Particular reference is made to the work of the preacher in the pulpit. The preacher must use language commonly understood, if he is to make himself understood, if he is to persuade, and if he is to move to action.
The Personal Wisdom In Proverbs Eight, Rudolph E. Honsey
The Personal Wisdom In Proverbs Eight, Rudolph E. Honsey
Bachelor of Divinity
It will be the burden of this treatise to establish the fact that in the eighth chapter of the Book of Proverbs we have a direct reference to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. This we shall do on the basis of six Hebrew expressions which occur in verses 22 to 31. Then we shall consider the appropriateness of the term תכהת, as well as related terms, as ascribed to the Son of God. Finally, we shall consider the Personal Wisdom as our comfort in life and in death.

Lutheranism In The Region Of New York Until The Time Of Falckner, Eugene F. Helms
Lutheranism In The Region Of New York Until The Time Of Falckner, Eugene F. Helms
Bachelor of Divinity
The history of the Lutheran Church in the region of New York has its beginning contemporaneously with the beginning of the state of New York. Already at the time of the earliest explorations of that territory and the settlement of the first Dutch colony, we find traces of Lutheranism. True, the Lutherans never were a very large force; and, as a body, they had 1ittle to do with the shaping of New York’s development; nevertheless, Lutheranism was present. There was, also a nernber of individuals of, whose secular work the Lutheran Church can well be proud.
In our discussion we …
Albrecht Durer And The Lutheran Reformation, William Scar
Albrecht Durer And The Lutheran Reformation, William Scar
Bachelor of Divinity
This dissertation is a study of Albrecht Dürer's life and work with a theologioa1 interest. This is in no way a complete discussion of the artist's life and works. The selection of works treated in chapter four is not a good cross section of his drawings, woodcuts. copper engravings, etchings, and paintings. They are a careful selection of his works of art showing how he gradually employed true Christian or Biblical teaching in his religious subjects. The author endeavors to show in this paper that Albrecht Dürer made a contribution to the work of Martin Luther and his associates as …
The Messsianic Concept In Jewish Apocalyptic Writing, Arne Kristo
The Messsianic Concept In Jewish Apocalyptic Writing, Arne Kristo
Bachelor of Divinity
In this paper we propose to discuss certain aspects of the Messianic hope of the Jews as found in their apocalyptic literature. We want to investigate the apocalyptic writings with the desire of piecing together references to the Messiah, hoping in this way to discover what sort of Messiah this particular genre of Jewish literature presents.

The Stomatal Behvior Of Begonias And Its Relationship To Infection By Xanthomonas Begoniae, Eugene David Kitzke
The Stomatal Behvior Of Begonias And Its Relationship To Infection By Xanthomonas Begoniae, Eugene David Kitzke
Bachelors’ Theses
A leaf spot disease of begonias caused by a bacterium has been under observation and study at Marquette University for nearly a year. It brings up many interesting questions which need to be answered before the investigators can fully evaluate and determine correctly the relationships of this organism to the Begoniaceae. One of the questions, which has come up, was the problem of the mode of entrance. It is the purpose of this paper to deter mine the relation of the stomata to infection.

Histological Study Of The Small Intestine Of The Common Green Snake, Thamnophis Sirtalis, Robert George Stineman
Histological Study Of The Small Intestine Of The Common Green Snake, Thamnophis Sirtalis, Robert George Stineman
Bachelors’ Theses
Although much work has been done histologically with the vertebrates, very little seems to have been done on the intestinal tract of the reptile. This is especially true of the snakes, despite the abundant sources of material. Reptiles are one of the first classes of vertebrates in which there is a distinction made between small and large intestine. Histology textbooks devote only a few lines to the histology of the reptilian small intestine. For this reason it seems that it would be worthwhile to make a detailed study of that portion of the intestinal tract immediately distal to the duodenum …
The Histology Of The Digestive Tract Of The Common Green Snake, Thamnophis Sirtalis 3. Esophagus, Janice Jean Mcfarlane
The Histology Of The Digestive Tract Of The Common Green Snake, Thamnophis Sirtalis 3. Esophagus, Janice Jean Mcfarlane
Bachelors’ Theses
This is the third in a series of investigations of the comparative histology of the digestive tract of Thamnophis sirtalis, the common green snake. Comparatively little recent work of this nature upon any of the class Reptilia, and especially upon the order Ophidia, seems to have been undertaken. Kendall(1940) makes no mention of Ophidia, but discusses briefly the digestive system of the lizard, limiting his treatment of the esophagus to a few lines. Cole (1941) has an equally short and general discussion of the digestive system of Thamnophis sirtalis, again devoting but a brief space to his discussion of the …

Extensive dissection of various mammalian forms, expecially of man, the rabbit, and the cat has led to a recognition of a certain vascular pattern of the inferior vena cava which is typical for the group, It occurs so consistently that the occasional specimens which differ from it are of interest because of both their ontogenetic and phylogenetic significance.
The Feulgen Reaction Applied To Various Platyhelminthes And Small Ascarid Worms Mounted In Toto In Balsam Oil, Louise R. Russort
The Feulgen Reaction Applied To Various Platyhelminthes And Small Ascarid Worms Mounted In Toto In Balsam Oil, Louise R. Russort
Bachelors’ Theses
The problem involved in this experiment was the application of the Feulgen Reaction to a number of flatworms and small ascarid worms, in an attempt to ascertain whether or not a practical staining technique, (showing clear differentiation of nuclear material, etc., from the surrounding cuticle and cytoplasm) -- may be developed, by staining and mounting them in toto. The Feulgen Reaction was used in this experiment, not as a specific indicator for thymonucleic acid, but rather as a cytological stain. Some attention will be focused upon the reaction's specificity, however, in the following discussion of the development of the reaction …

Malonic Acid Synthesis, Mary K. Hormuth
Malonic Acid Synthesis, Mary K. Hormuth
Bachelors’ Theses
The search for new organic compounds, the discovery of their proper ties and the utilization of them, both in the industrial and the biological field has always been the challenge to the organic and research chemist. In particular, the study of fatty acids and their related compounds has been the particular problem to not only the physiological chemist, but also the industrial chemist. The research in this direction has tremendous possibilities tor only the even carbon and normal chain acids have been isolated in nature. Here difficulty is often met when trying to establish and identify this type of acid …

The Correspondence Of Paul And The Church At Corinth, Alton F. Wedel
The Correspondence Of Paul And The Church At Corinth, Alton F. Wedel
Bachelor of Divinity
The subject with which this thesis deals is not an article of faith. The problem is not doctrinal. But it remains for him who would search out the Scriptures to study these theories carefully, to come to very definite conclusions, and to be able to take his stand against all efforts to undermine confidence in Holy Writ. The theories are tempting; let the pastor beware!

The Influence Of Plainsong On The Chorales Of Luther And Those Of His Day, Fred L. Precht
The Influence Of Plainsong On The Chorales Of Luther And Those Of His Day, Fred L. Precht
Bachelor of Divinity
What then is plainsong, or so-called Gregorian chant? Volumes could be written characterizing this magnificent structure of medieval church song, a song which in a certain sense forms the basis of all modern music. In a treatise of this type let it suffice to state but a few of its fundamental principles. Needless to say, it is of the utmost importance that one have at least a general conception of what constitutes this music in order to properly evaluate its influence on the Lutheran chorale. The greater such knowledge of plainsong, the greater also will be one's appreciation of Luther's …
The Great Harlot Of Revelation Chapter Seventeen, Lorman Petersen
The Great Harlot Of Revelation Chapter Seventeen, Lorman Petersen
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The great problem before us in this thesis is: What is the value of the multifarious interpretations which have been offered concerning the images of Revelation XVII? Our thesis has the specific title. "The Great Harlot of Revelation XVII. An Evaluation of the Various Interpretations Offered Concerning", which topic centers around the most important image (The Harlot) of the chapter. But our treatise will also contain the views and interpretations regarding the other lesser symbols of the chapter --- the Beast, the kings, the seven mountains, and all those problems mentioned before.

The material used in this experiment consisted of four seedling clonal lines of sweet potatoes, 16-3, 98, 11,-5, and 15-7, produced at the Louisiana State University Agricultural Experiment Station. Young buds and unpollinated flowers were killed, embedded in paraffin, cut at 12-30 microns, and stained. Mature flowers were pollinated, retaoved at one, four, eight, and twelve-hour intervals following pollination, treated as the above, and cut at 30 microns. Smears of pollinated flowers were used to show the germinating …
The Status Of The Negro Industrial Worker In Houston, Texas, Isaac Benjamin Kemp
The Status Of The Negro Industrial Worker In Houston, Texas, Isaac Benjamin Kemp
All Theses
It has long been established in the literature of industrial science that population members occupy a specific place in human group life. This position is greatly affected by their status in the industrial pattern of society in which they move and have their being. Previous study has shown that this type of existence is not always the same in nature.
Because of this type of assumption, it is possible to study the industrial status of a particular occupational group.
Every individual who seeks a job is interested in two things. His first interest is in the economic returns which the …
