Hebrews- An Exegetical Study, James W. Mayer

Bachelor of Divinity

In my sketch of the conception of the Christian High-Priest found in Hebrews. I shall consider in the first part the person of Christ as suited to His High-priesthood, and in the second part Christ as performing the work of a High-priest. I shall stress the special emphasis of Christ as OFFERER and the OFFERING which He Brings. A comparison of the Christian High-priest with the high-priests under the Old Dispensation will not be dealt with in a separate chapter, but will be drawn incidentally as the argument progresses.

The Reformation Of Cranmer With Special Reference To Its Doctrine And The Influence Upon It, George S. Robbert

Bachelor of Divinity

At the time of Cranmer's youth end early schooling England was Catholic. At the time of his death, it was Protestant. How did this change take place and what were the motivating forces in this change? The opportunity for the break from Rome was given when Henry VIII sought a divorce from Catherine of Aragon in order to marry Anne Bolyen. Cranmer's part in the proceedings of the divorce brought him into the public eye and to a large extent made possible the Reformation of Cranmer. After the break with Rome Cranmer, who was easily influenced by his companions, maintained …

Good confirmation instruction makes the preaching more efficient, makes the work with troubled souls easier, and increases the spirit of love between pastor and catechumens. The Bible has a special purpose in the world and, therefore, should be approached differently than any other book. The Psalmist shows us e proper attitude in the brief prayer: "Open Thou mine eyes, that I may hold wondrous things out of Thy law.” This prayer should be in the heart of every one of us every time we open or Bibles for reading or study. "Prayer is necessary to drive out the demon of indifference.”

The Lutheran Church in the Canadian Northwest is made up of believers from all parts of Europe and the United States. In coming to this newly opened last American frontier as early as 1872 and continuing sporadically ever since, these immigrants brought their curious customs, costumes, languages and dialects with them. This strange mixture of prospective Lutheran Canadians was providentially gathered to make a church which "in spite of its confusing overlapping of unrelated synods and without the slightest semblance of compulsory discipline still has an amazing unity in diversity."

Physical Properties Of Ellis County Adobe, William G. Read

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

Houses made of soil have been built for centuries, but until recently the trend had been away from soil to some other building material. Now, however, adobe is again beginning to be recognized as a satisfactory, reliable building material for our time. Recently, especially in the southwestern part of the United States, a surprising number of dwellers have turned again to earth for their building material. They are following in the footsteps of the early settlers, who constructed many missions and other buildings from sun-dried earth. Many of these buildings, although aged, are still in use or may be viewed …

The Evolution Of The Junior High School In Kansas, Vernald Charles Rowe

Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice

In Kansas, the junior high school is often considered an educational "orphan" due to the lack of standardization and limited supervision. These factors identify the fundamental thought of this study as an inquiry into the "why and wherefore" of this type of school organization. A healthy curiosity concerning the background and evolution of junior high schools and an interest in correlating the diverse factors of their existence in Kansas constitute the stimuli for this thesis. Principal Sects Of Islam: Their Orgin And Beliefs, John Gall May 1948

Principal Sects Of Islam: Their Orgin And Beliefs, John Gall

Bachelor of Divinity

The number of sects, however, far exceeds the number that Mohammed predicted. Some Moslem scholars have prepared lists of the sects of Mohammedanism so that they number exactly seventy-three. But they are hard pressed to scale the actual number down to that sum. Actually, the sects of Islam outnumber the Christian sects. Sheikh Abdul Kader stated that there were one hundred and fifty Mohammedan sects. Most of these believe that of all the sects only they have the correct way of salvation. There is much hatred, bloodshed and bitterness among them.

Luther's Attitude Towards Allegory, George Rode May 1948

Luther's Attitude Towards Allegory, George Rode

Bachelor of Divinity

Our purpose is not to answer the question whether allegory should be used or not. We do not wish to raise the question whether allegorical interpretation should find a place in our exegetical practise. Our purpose is to show what Luther thought of allegorical interpretation. We shall attempt to answer the question whether he considered it permissible to use allegory at any time. If allegory may be used, and we know that Luther made use of it until the last, then what are the principles, the rules, to which it must be subjected?

Paul, The Pastor (His Corinthian Ministry), David Paul Bergmann May 1948

Paul, The Pastor (His Corinthian Ministry), David Paul Bergmann

Here, in this city of lewdness and immorality, of gross dishonesty and crying sins, the Apostle Paul preached the message of Christ Crucified. He rarely stayed in any city as long as he did in Corinth. Christ was the Savior even of publicans and sinners, hence even this stronghold of iniquity and vice was to be conquered with the Gospel of Christ.
