Evaluating and forecasting surface water quality is essential for protecting aquatic ecosystems and improving water resource management. This study introduces a novel paradigm that integrates machine learning (ML) with the potential ecological risk index (PERI) to dynamically forecast, rather than statically assess, ecological risks from heavy metal contamination in an urban estuarine environment. Surface water samples from the Lower Passaic River in New Jersey, USA, were analyzed for copper (Cu), lead (Pb), and mercury (Hg) across multiple sites and sampling campaigns. On July 24, 2026, Taiwan’s legislature passed the Taiwan Future Account Special Act. If signed into law, the bill would create a national Child Development Account policy with many of the features that research has identified as key design elements for universal children’s account policy. This brief examines the bill and competing proposals, comparing the design elements with features in the Trump Account policy. The brief also details three recommendations for strengthening the policy.

BACKGROUND: Despite the emergence of medetomidine as the dominant adulterant in Philadelphia's illicit opioid supply, coordinated public health responses are limited or non-existent in the literature. INTRODUCTION: Patient and arteriovenous malformation (AVM) characteristics that portend success after treatment for low-grade brain AVMs remain unknown.

PATIENTS AND METHODS: We utilised the MISTA multicentre registry to identify patients with Spetzler-Martin (SM) grade I or II AVMs treated with stand-alone curative-intent intervention (resection, stereotactic radiosurgery [SRS] or endovascular embolisation). Bivariate and multivariable analyses were performed to identify patient and AVM characteristics predictive of complete obliteration or favourable outcome (complete obliteration without new permanent deficit or post-treatment haemorrhage).

RESULTS: A total of 522 patients were included (292 microsurgery, 152 SRS, 78 embolisation). Complete obliteration rates differed between microsurgery (95.9%), SRS …

MOTIVATION: Metabolism operates as a highly interconnected biochemical network, and its regulation emerges from coordinated changes across many reactions and metabolites. The integration of gene expression profiling data with organism-scale metabolic networks has proven to be a valuable tool for understanding cellular metabolic regulation. However, the increasing complexity of profiling technologies and experimental designs requires the development of specialized tools.

RESULTS: Here, we present GAMclust, an R package implementing and extending the previously published GAM-clustering pipeline for identifying transcriptionally regulated metabolic modules in complex gene expression datasets. SUMMARY: The druggable genome encompasses the genes that are known or predicted to interact with drugs. The Drug-Gene Interaction Database (DGIdb) provides an integrated resource for discovering and contextualizing these interactions, supporting a broad range of research and clinical applications. DGIdb is currently accessed through structured web interfaces and API calls, requiring users to translate natural-language questions into database-specific query patterns. To allow for the use of DGIdb through natural language, we developed the DGIdb Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which allows large language models (LLMs) access to up-to-date information through the DGIdb API. World models are being built twice, from opposite ends, without a shared theory of how the two halves should meet. One lineage grounds the world model in perception: a self-supervised, latent-predictive encoder – exemplified by Joint Embedding Predictive Architectures (JEPA) – that learns the structure of sensory experi-ence. A second, older lineage grounds the world model in cognition: an explicit, inspectable structure of entities, rules, and constraints, ranging from knowledge graphs to formal logic to physical law. Neither lineage alone has produced a world model that is simultane-ously adaptive and auditable. We argue this is not solved by picking a …

Background and Objective: Alport syndrome is a hereditary disorder of type IV collagen that commonly presents in childhood with persistent hematuria and carries a lifelong risk of progressive kidney disease and extrarenal complications. Despite advances in genetic diagnostics, important gaps remain in early risk stratification, variant interpretation, and recognition of expanding phenotypes. This narrative review aims to synthesize current evidence on the genetic architecture, clinical spectrum, and management of pediatric Alport syndrome, with a focus on early diagnosis and disease-modifying interventions.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), or histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a rare, self-limiting condition characterized by cervical lymphadenopathy, fever, and night sweats. Although KFD is most commonly reported in young Asian women, cases have emerged globally, including among non-Asian populations. The etiology remains unclear, with viral and autoimmune triggers, such as Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), being commonly proposed. Diagnosing KFD is challenging due to its overlapping symptoms with more severe conditions like tuberculosis, malignancies, and autoimmune disorders. Diagnosis typically requires an excisional lymph node biopsy due to the insufficiency of noninvasive methods.

Health promotion in tertiary music education lacks shared guidance despite rising concern for musicians’ well-being. This position paper addresses that gap with a consensus-based, evidence-informed framework developed by 122 contributors across six continents and a variety of disciplines, including musicians and student representatives. It advances a broad understanding of health—physical, psychological, social, cultural, and occupational—and positions health promotion as integral to musicking rather than an add-on. OpenStreetMap (OSM) represents a vast and low-cost geographic data source for platform capitalism; however, OSM is crowdsourced and exhibits uneven development across space, especially in rural areas. Modafinil is a central-acting wakefulness-promoting agent approved for narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and shift-work sleep disorder and is increasingly prescribed off-label for several neuropsychiatric conditions. Due to its favorable safety profile and lower abuse potential compared with other psychostimulants, modafinil has been increasingly used in treatment for narcolepsy and similar sleep disorders. While its safety profile is generally applauded, there have been an increasing number of case reports detailing rare neuropsychiatric adverse effects associated with modafinil exposure.

Current approaches to avoid the drop in engagement with notifications have a high overhead, are slow to roll out, and lack content personalization. This disclosure describes techniques, implemented with user permission, to automatically select and manage content for push notifications with an automated closed-loop self-healing personalized architecture. Purpose: Recurrence risk estimates underpin meningioma research, including molecular classification and clinical trial benchmarking, yet are often based on retrospective or historical data. The aim of this study was to assess the variation of recurrence risk estimates across calendar periods, WHO classification editions, geographical settings, and healthcare systems.thetermine METHODS: We analyzed 4,111 patients with primary WHO-1/-2 meningiomas from 31 centers in 15 countries (1990-2019). Recurrence was defined according to local radiological assessment. The 5- and 10-year recurrence risks were estimated using regression standardization with inverse probability of censoring weights, adjusting for key clinical, surgical, and histopathological variables.

Interactive digital tasks have the potential to aid mathematics educators in providing equitable mathematics learning experiences. However, research indicates that mathematics educators may not be aware of how interactive digital tasks can promote equitable teaching practices. This study reports on a design-based research project exploring pre-service teachers’ perceptions of equity and interactive digital tasks.
