Multiscale Thermal Performance Transfer In Fly-Ash-Modified Recycled Fine Aggregate Concrete For Climate-Dependent Wall Response, Jiayu Zhao, Norul Wahida Kamaruzaman

Platform: A Journal of Engineering (PAJE)

This study develops a multiscale analytical framework to quantify how thermal conductivity changes in fly-ash-modified recycled fine aggregate concrete (FA-RFAC) transfer to wall and climate-response scales. Five conductivity scenarios (0.60–1.40 W/(m·K)) were evaluated using a standardised multi-layer reference wall, and transfer was quantified using local transfer elasticity and a finite-change thermal-performance retention factor. The resulting wall U-values were combined with heating and cooling degree-days for Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The local transfer elasticity was mathematically equivalent to the fraction of total wall resistance provided by the FA-RFAC layer. At the reference conductivity of 1.00 W/(m·K), FA-RFAC and rock wool contributed …

Event-Resolved Rqdf Characterisation Of Berea Sandstone: Distinguishing Pore-Structure Similarity From Scale-Dependent Variability, Walid Mohamed Mahmud

Platform: A Journal of Engineering (PAJE)

This paper applies the Rate-Controlled-Porosimetry Quantitative Descriptor Framework (RQDF) to four Berea sandstone core plugs. Events were identified using an automated, prominence-based detection algorithm, which was validated against an independently documented manual event count for two of the four plugs. The finding is an empirical shape-scale separation among these four plugs. Descriptors that are invariant by construction under rescaling of the underlying pore-size distributions, namely event-size entropy, distributional and power-law exponents, and curve-region saturation boundaries, reproduce across the four plugs with a coefficient of variation below 8%. Median effective capillary-equivalent pore-throat radius is also stable at this level (CV about …

Strengthening The Philippines' Agri-Fishery Rde System: A Case Study Of A Public Coordinating Agency As A Bridging Organization, Cynthia Remedios V. De Guia, Luis Rey I. Velasco, Maria Faina L. Diola

Journal of Public Affairs and Development

The Philippine agricultural research, development, and extension (RDE) system has long struggled to live up to its ideals. Decades after the passage of the Agriculture and Fishery Modernization Act (AFMA), the RDE system was reported to have failed to innovate, largely because it failed to translate research into development outcomes. This has resulted from persistent gaps in knowledge exchange, institutional linkages, and collaboration among system actors. In fragmented systems, meaningful interaction and trust seldom emerge spontaneously, making bridging mechanisms necessary. Bridging organizations (BOs) play this role by connecting multiple and diverse actors, mediating relationships, enabling knowledge flows, and enhancing capacities …

Modelling Acute Haemorrhagic Conjunctivitis In East Africa: An Integrated Approach To Transmission Dynamics And Outbreak Response Strategies, Geofrey Wingi Sikazwe

Tanzania Journal of Science

Acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC) poses a significant global health risk, with the potential for rapid spread during outbreaks. For instance, a localized outbreak in Yunnan Province, China, recorded infection rates of up to 48%, illustrating how transmission can intensify under favourable epidemiological and environmental conditions. Existing mathematical models of AHC transmission overlook seasonal variations, a critical factor in epidemic spread. This study combines species distribution models (SDMs) and epidemiological modelling to analyse key drivers of AHC in East Africa. We use the SEIR type (Susceptible-Exposed-Infected-Recovered - incorporating waning immunity) framework with temperature-dependent infectivity rate as the key driver of an …

Journal of Bioresource Management

Caffeine synthase (CCS1; EC 2.1.1.160) is a S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM; S-adenosyl-L-methionine) dependent N-methyltransferase that executes the final methylation steps of caffeine biosynthesis in coffee, tea, and related plants. While paraxanthine can act as an efficient substrate, it contributes to a comparatively minor branch in the overall pathway. We conducted an integrated in silico analysis of CCS1, covering sequence retrieval, structure prediction, 3D modeling, and mutation assessment. Secondary structure was inferred using PSIPRED; physicochemical indices were computed via AA-PROP; 3D models were generated by I-TASSER and evaluated by Verify3D; and missense effects were prioritized using PolyPhen-2, PROVEAN, I-Mutant, and PhD-SNP. Taken together, …

A Single-Step Plate Method For The Screening Of Xyl-A Mutant Libraries Based On Gene Expression, Bilqees Fatima, Muhammad Mohsin Javed

Journal of Bioresource Management

A single-step plate method is described for the screening of transformants of cloned gene xyl-A encoding xylose isomerase. It is rapid, inexpensive, easy to perform, and more specific, as the selection is based on xyl-A expression level. The crucial composition of the plate medium comprised agar, buffer, nutrients, co-factor, substrate, inducer, antibiotic, and an indicator, i.e., 2, 3, 5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC). Transformed cells of E. coli BL21 (DE3) with a plasmid (pET21(a)++xyl-A), were exclusively capable of growing, isomerizing the substrate, and producing deep-red formazan by reducing TTC, whereas the untransformed cells and cells containing a …

The Effect Of Alpha-Lipoic Acid On Sperm Cryobiology And Post-Thaw Quality Of Sperm In Livestock Species, Kashif Ali Malak, Nazar Ali Korejo, Hira Sajjad Talpur, Asmatullah Kaka, Atif Ali Malak, Muhammad Aqeel, Rasool Bux Sep 2026

The Effect Of Alpha-Lipoic Acid On Sperm Cryobiology And Post-Thaw Quality Of Sperm In Livestock Species, Kashif Ali Malak, Nazar Ali Korejo, Hira Sajjad Talpur, Asmatullah Kaka, Atif Ali Malak, Muhammad Aqeel, Rasool Bux

Journal of Bioresource Management

The cryopreservation of semen is a prerequisite for artificial insemination, germplasm banking and the global distribution of elite livestock breeding. However, spermatozoa are particularly sensitive to cooling and freezing/thawing processes due to the presence of large amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids in their plasma membranes and limited cytoplasmic antioxidant stores. An increase in reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, mitochondrial dysfunction, acrosomal injury and DNA fragmentation occurs due to stress associated with cryopreservation, which results in the lowering of motility as well as viability and post-thaw low quality of sperm. Alpha-lipoic acid is a natural disulfide compound that acts as a …
