Social Support Networks And Coping With Aging: A Mixed Methods Study Among Older Adults With Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces) In Malaysia, Ummi Ainaa Selamat, Choo Wan Yuen, Noran Naqiah Hairi
Social Support Networks And Coping With Aging: A Mixed Methods Study Among Older Adults With Adverse Childhood Experiences (Aces) In Malaysia, Ummi Ainaa Selamat, Choo Wan Yuen, Noran Naqiah Hairi
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are known to have long-term impacts on mental health and social functioning, potentially hindering the development of supportive social networks later in life. Asia’s rapidly aging populations face complex social and healthcare challenges, highlighting the need to understand how early-life trauma influences older adults’ experiences and utilization of social support systems. Despite widespread recognition of the importance of social support as a significant protective factor, its complex dynamics in later life remain underexplored. This study aims to examine the association between ACEs and perceived social support among older adults in rural Malaysia, and to explore how …
"Heil, O Sonne, Heil!": Schemata And Semiotics In Haydn's Oratorio Sunrises, Michael D. Slattery
"Heil, O Sonne, Heil!": Schemata And Semiotics In Haydn's Oratorio Sunrises, Michael D. Slattery
HAYDN: Online Journal of the Haydn Society of North America
Both of Haydn’s late oratorios, The Creation and The Seasons, contain depictions of sunrises, a subject matter that Sisman (2013) has characterized as “Emergent Light,” in contrast with the famous “absolute” creation of light at the opening of The Creation. In addition to their shared object of representation, the four sunrise passages I identify in these two works all use a phrase-level schema Gjerdingen (2007) has christened the Do-Re-Mi. In this paper, I enrich our cultural understanding of Haydn’s sunrises by attending to nuanced semantic implications of the Do-Re-Mi, illustrating how phrase-level schemata can construct extramusical meaning.
Work on phrase-level …

Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
The general aim of the study is to seek evidence on the role of knowledge in implementing a health policy on aging. In specific terms, it sought evidence on the actual translation of the law on senior citizens’ access to health benefits and social services. To do so, a combination of policy analysis, archival research, and key informant interviews with local executives of selected respective government units were conducted. Overall findings strongly suggest low compliance with health policy implementation efforts attributable to limited knowledge among local government unit heads of the overarching legal framework relative to other agencies. Validation of …

Development Of An Integrated Elderly Service Program (Esp) Using Elderly-Friendly Design (Efd):Case Study Of An Urban Village In Yogyakarta,Indonesia, Danang Febriyantoko, Dewi Cahyani Puspitasari
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
The aging population significantly affects the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Consistent with the principle of “Leave No One Behind,” the agenda seeks to promote well-being for people of all ages. Population aging poses a challenge that Indonesia must address as it seeks to realize the projected demographic dividend in 2030. Yogyakarta, which has the country’s highest proportion of older adults, can serve as a model for effective senior management. Longer life expectancy and improved social conditions enable seniors to engage in cultural and religious activities, offering Yogyakarta an opportunity to develop an elderly-friendly urban village with a comprehensive elderly service …

Resilience In Aging: A Grounded Theory Study On How Older Japanese Adults Navigate Chronic Illness, Dominic Bryan S. San Jose
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
Japan’s population is one of the world’s oldest. As of 2025, over 29% of its citizens are 65 years old or older. Chronic illnesses like hypertension and diabetes are prevalent among the older population, presenting significant problems for the already stretched healthcare system. However, little is known about how older Japanese citizens actively manage chronic illness. Examining their actual experiences can help us comprehend the resilience of Japan’s elderly population on a deeper level. Using the Glaserian grounded theory approach, this study aimed to develop a theoretical framework that explains how resilience emerges in aging individuals within a Japanese sociocultural …

Embodiment, Ableism, And Age: A Qualitative Study On Gynecological Health Among Elderly Women With Disabilities In Rural Bangladesh, Anamul Hoque, Adiba Rahman, Chowdhury Anika Farah, Pranto Paul, Md Shahgahan Miah
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
In countries with LMIC status, women with disabilities often experience limited access to healthcare, and the reality is even worse, particularly for older women with disabilities. Systematic social and institutional processes, especially in many rural and low-resource contexts, render their bodies invisible and unworthy of care within reproductive and gynecological health systems. These people’s embodied experiences of aging and disability are often overlooked in dominant understandings of women’s health, which leads to gaps in care, recognition, and support. This study explores how rural elderly women with disabilities make sense of their gynecological health, and how experiences of aging, disability, gender, …

Abstract
The Constitutional Court's decisions regarding election simultaneity demonstrate a highly progressive development in constitutional reasoning. The Constitutional Court has issued at least three decisions related to the election simultaneity model: Decision Number 14/PUU-XI/2013, Decision Number 55/PUU-XVII/2019, and Decision Number 135/PUU-XXII/2024. So far, studies of these decisions have tended to be placed within the framework of constitutional interpretation. However, the Constitutional Court's stance in Decision Number 135/PUU-XXII/2024 goes beyond merely interpreting the constitution to also construct a constitutional provision on election simultaneity by separating national and local elections. Therefore, the focus of this article is the shift in the Constitutional …

Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code introduces the Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) as a special mechanism for corporate offenders. Article 328(8) grants judges substantive authority to assess proportionality, the impact on the national economy, and the suspect's ability to meet the agreed conditions—yet provides no clear parameters. This absence risks legal uncertainty, judicial formalism, and abuse of power, while colliding with the presumption of innocence within Indonesia's civil-law tradition, in which judges have traditionally played a passive role. This study aims to construct a dogmatic framework for judges' substantive judicial-supervision authority in the DPA mechanism. Employing …

Ecological And Public Health Consequences Of Sand Mining In Aquatic Ecosystems: A Systematic Review, Uduak Sylvanus Jacob, Isangedighi Asuquo Isangedighi, Olusola Abayomi Akangbe, Emmanuel Dami Omogbemi
Journal of Bioresource Management
The persistent exploitation of the aquatic ecosystem, driven by increasing demand for aquatic resources, including construction-grade sand, is evidenced by hydrological and geomorphological degradation of the aquatic ecosystem, with severe negative consequences on the fauna and flora communities. The rising global demand for sand and inefficient mining regulations have resulted in indiscriminate and illegal sand mining globally. However, developing an effective policy framework for sustained river sand mining requires local, regional, and global data (both qualitative and quantitative) on the status, drivers and implications of sand mining. This paper uses a systematic literature review approach to compile the ecological and …

ABSTRACT. Decentralized archipelagic states face governance challenges in translating national security frameworks into localized institutional practices. This paper analyses the formalization of coastal community participation into maritime security governance in Batam, Indonesia through multi-layered political mechanisms. The study uses a qualitative case study design incorporating insights from securitization theory and multi-level governance frameworks. Data were collected between March and July 2025, comprising 18 semi-structured interviews, policy document analysis, mapping of institutional coordination, and field observations. The findings reveal a persistent multi-level securitization gap: national threat narratives, particularly those articulated in terms of sovereignty, have not been proportionally translated into regional …

One aspect of evaluating the Constitutional Court, which has been in existence since 2003, is the issue of ethical compliance. Although a code of ethics for constitutional judges currently exists, it applies only to sitting constitutional judges. In reality, however, many former constitutional judges frequently act as parties in cases heard by the Constitutional Court. The author found that there are still former Constitutional Court judges who have served as parties—either as principals or as legal representatives. Although there is no explicit prohibition, the involvement of former constitutional judges in case proceedings raises the potential for conflicts of interest and …

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
This study presents a thermo-entropic analysis of unsteady MHD nanofluid Couette flow, combining a classical bivariate spectral quasilinearisation (BI-SQLM) and Crank--Nicolson solution with an exploratory application of quantum linear solvers. An incompressible, electrically conducting nanofluid flows between parallel plates under partial slip and convective heat exchange; the discretised linear systems are additionally solved via the Harrow--Hassidim--Lloyd (HHL) algorithm and the Variational Quantum Linear Solver (VQLS). Results are presented for Pure Water, Cu-Water, and Al2O3-Water across seven parameter variations. The Hartmann number dominates velocity suppression and entropy amplification, while velocity slip reduces upper-wall entropy generation more than …

This study investigates the effects of rotational speed $(\Omega)$, Richardson number $\left(Ri\right)$, and Lewis number $\left(Le\right)$ on heat and mass transfer (HMT) around two co-rotating cylinders symmetrically situated in a trapezoidal enclosure. In the double-diffusive mechanism, the bottom wall of the trapezium is at a high temperature $\left(T_h\right)$ and concentration $\left(C_h\right)$, while the top wall is at a low temperature $\left(T_c\right)$ and concentration $\left(C_c\right)$. The side walls are perfectly insulated with zero mass flux, while the buoyancy ratio $\left(Br\right)$ is fixed at 1.0. Two thermal-mass boundary scenarios are considered. Scenario 1: Cylinders are thermally insulated with zero mass flux, and …

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
The Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) equation is fundamental in stochastic optimal control but is often difficult to solve accurately because of its nonlinear and multidimensional structure. This paper develops a hybrid tensor-product spectral collocation method based on shifted Bernstein polynomials in time and fractional-order Chebyshev polynomials in the state variables. The proposed shifted Bernstein–fractional Chebyshev (SBFC) framework allows the time and state directions to be approximated using different basis characteristics, while the fractional parameters provide adjustable resolution in the state domain. A weighted approximation framework is established, including density and convergence results for the mixed approximation space. The state collocation points are …

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
Heroin and synthetic narcotic abuse have become a major global concern, posing challenges to individuals, families, and communities. Their widespread availability and low cost have intensified the crisis. This study investigates a heroin transmission model using the modified Atangana--Baleanu--Caputo (mABC) fractional operator, with emphasis on non-zero solutions. Series solutions are derived by combining the Laplace transform with the Adomian decomposition method to address nonlinear components. Qualitative analysis is conducted through fixed-point theory, while stability is assessed using the T-Picard method. Numerical simulations explore the effects of different fractional orders and transmission parameters on the system. The study incorporates a deep …

Pattern Formation And Diffusion-Driven Instability Of A Modified Lengyel-Epstein Model, Müge Meyvacı, Hüseyin Merdan, Yafia Radouane
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
We consider a modified Lengyel-Epstein model that is covered by a system of reaction-diffusion equations and investigate the sufficient conditions on parameters of the model at which the diffusion-driven instability occurs. We perform numerical simulations to support and extend the theoretical findings. Analytical results and numerical simulations show that the modified Lengyel-Epstein system with positive initial and non-flux boundary conditions presents Turing patterns under some conditions on its parameters.

Detecting and classifying insect pests is a critical challenge in agricultural pest management, as infestations can reduce crop yield and quality. This study introduces JPNet, a convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture that uses multi-layer feature fusion to detect and classify insect pests affecting jute crops. The architecture integrates complementary feature representations extracted at different network depths, preserving fine-grained visual characteristics alongside high-level semantic information. JPNet is evaluated on the JutePest dataset, which comprises approximately 6,460 RGB images spanning 17 pest classes. Preprocessing and data augmentation—including resizing, normalization, rotation, shifting, zooming, and flipping—improve the consistency and diversity of the training data. …
