Demonizing Sexuality: Dangerous Women In Folklore, Lily E. Nelson
Demonizing Sexuality: Dangerous Women In Folklore, Lily E. Nelson
Young Historians Conference
Cross-culturally, women in folklore have been portrayed as dangerous due to their sexuality and influence over men. Clear patterns throughout history emerge through analysis of the following occurrences, which show a link between how sexualized a female figure is and the threat she is considered to pose. The she-demon Lilith in Jewish and Mesopotamian mythology as well as folklore relating to the Scriptures, mermaids in Europe, and fox spirits in East Asia all demonstrate this phenomenon, since they are all overly sexualized and represent broader social norms towards women. These beings all exhibit similarities in being able to exert control …

The Missing Step To Equality: Feminist Readings Of The Broken Rung, Putri Rizky, Muhammad Irfan Syaebani, Rofikoh Rokhim
International Conference on Business and Management Research (ICBMR)
Women’s underrepresentation in leadership remains a persistent global challenge, often analyzed through the metaphor of the glass ceiling. While this concept highlights barriers at the top of organizational hierarchies, it fails to capture the earlier and more foundational obstacle of the broken rung: women’s disproportionate exclusion from their first promotion into managerial positions. This research employs a desk analysis to examine the causes, mechanisms, and implications of the broken rung within the Indonesian context, linking it to three theoretical frameworks: liberal feminism, symbolic violence, and intersectionality.
The study finds that from a liberal feminist perspective, the broken rung …

International Conference on Business and Management Research (ICBMR)
In mining companies take various preventive measures to prevent accidents and incidents. The number of mining accidents in Indonesia is relatively high, which is said to be due to inadequate monitoring and assessment of mines. The phenomenon that accidents still occur in companies with a high safety culture can be caused by several complex, interrelated factors. There are only a few studies on the correlation between safety culture and people safety awareness, safety leadership, and reward-punishment, and 140 employee miners from mining companies using a non-probability sampling method in this cross-sectional study. This research is a quantitative approach that uses …

Talking Heads Seminar Series
Our collaborative inquiry into First Peoples’ governance unfolds through lived conversations in which Country, kinship, and institutional struggle are inseparable. In our dialogues, governance emerges not as theory, but as the everyday labour of navigating compliance cultures, fractured university systems, and the long fight for Aboriginal knowledge to be recognised and valued across the university, in curriculum, research and governance. These dialogues reveal how trust, relational accountability, and the authority of Country are continually undermined by corporatised structures, yet also how they persist in practice through story, protocol, and shared responsibility. This presentation reflects on how such relational, placeheld conversations …

On March 15, 2007, 44 different Francophone authors signed the manifesto Towards a World Literature in French (Simon trs., 2010), following the publication of their anthology of essays published under the same title (Pour une littérature-monde en français, LeBris et Rouaud dir., 2007). The manifesto claims the end of the division between French literature and Francophone literature—being the division between French literature by authors born in France and by authors not born in France, but uses the French language due to various reasons (primarily colonialism and education). However, the manifesto did fall into what some might deem a heated debate, …

Efficient Energy Management In Networked Microgrids Using Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning In The Presence Of Uncertainties, Ayodele Benjamin Chukwuyem
Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses
Microgrid technology is essential in facilitating the transition to smart energy grids in developed countries and mitigating energy poverty in developing countries, particularly in areas where grid extensions are not feasible. Recently, the concept of networked microgrids (NMGs) has garnered tremendous attention due to the plausibility of interactions among interconnected microgrids leading to power networks that are more resilient, reliable, and stable. However, because each microgrid has diverse distributed generation resources (renewables and controllable generators) and each microgrid operator (MO) has different objectives, coordinated energy management is required to satisfy local and system-wide goals under conditions with significant uncertainty. Existing …

Evaluating The Impact Of Evidence-Based Education On The Utilization Of Preoperative Gastric Ultrasound For Patients On Glp-1 Agonists, Rachel K. Gibbons, Wesley Johnson, Rachel Cartillar
Create@State
Abstract
Patients taking glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists have a 30.5% higher prevalence of retained gastric contents at the time of surgery despite being held according to ASA and AANA recommendations, highlighting the need for enhanced preoperative assessment to reduce aspiration risk (Sen et al., 2024; Willson et al., 2024). Although an effective, noninvasive tool for assessing gastric contents and reducing the risk of pulmonary aspiration, gastric ultrasound remains underutilized in anesthesia practice (Pan et al., 2024). This evidence-based project evaluated whether an educational intervention could improve anesthesia providers’ knowledge, attitudes, and readiness to adopt point-of-care gastric ultrasound (POC-GUS) into …

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Background: Bedside registered nurses (BRNs) in the hospital setting care for patients who may unexpectedly deteriorate. When nurses witness patient deterioration, it is helpful for them to engage in meaning-making and contextualization to facilitate compassion satisfaction, mitigate secondary traumatic stress, and improve job satisfaction (Kopacz et al., 2019; Sattler & Smith, 2020). When a rapid response team (RRT) intervention is called and the patient warrants transfer to intensive care (ICU), BRNs rarely receive formal follow-up regarding the outcomes of their patients. Lack of feedback regarding critical situations may contribute to secondary traumatic stress, moral distress, decreased job satisfaction among BRNs, …
