Barriers To The Use Of Injectable Naltrexone In An Outpatient Setting, Heather Schultz

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The opioid epidemic is a public health concern that impacts thousands of individuals across the United States. There was a lack of clear understanding of what leads opioid addicts to decline use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with injectable extended release naltrexone (XR-NTX). The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional correlational study was to examine the relationships between past XR-NTX status and demographic factors (gender, age, race, education level, time sober in days, and employment status) and the attitudes about encouragement from providers about engaging in MAT, as well as perceptions about MAT in individuals currently in a MAT who chose not …

Trauma Informed Care And Secondary Traumatic Stress Experienced By Counselors In Community Mental Health, Rebecca Renee Cameron-Hernandez

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Secondary traumatic stress (STS) is prevalent in counselors working with clients with trauma. Clients seeking services in community mental health (CMH) settings often have a higher prevalence of traumatic experiences and are unable to access services outside of CMH settings. Counselors working in these settings also generally face high caseloads, less pay, and often less experience in the field. Trauma informed care (TIC) has been shown to increase positive outcomes for clients and counselors providing services to clients. This quantitative survey study focused on the relationship between counselor attitudes related toward TIC and the severity of STS experienced by counselors. …

School Counseling Site Supervisors’ Lived Experience Of Supervision Preparedness, Erin Augustine

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Data collection involved semistructured interviews with six participants who had all served or were currently serving as a school counseling site supervisor. The …

Nonprofit Leadership Strategies For Maintaining Tax-Exempt Status, Joelander Wheeler Feb 2024

Nonprofit Leadership Strategies For Maintaining Tax-Exempt Status, Joelander Wheeler

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Nonprofit organizations (NPOs) have benefited communities by providing goods and services not filled by government and private organizations. Noncompliance with operational requirements imposed on tax-exempt organizations can cause NPOs to lose their tax-exempt status and hinder their ability to provide much-needed services to underserved communities. Grounded in general systems theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple-case was to explore strategies some NPO leaders use to ensure compliance with the state and federal regulations required to maintain tax-exempt status. The participants were leaders from three NPOs in Tennessee who implemented plans to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal laws to …

The Lived Experience Of Transformation In Cam Providers Trained In Trauma-Informed Care, Alane Lucht

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Public and professional awareness of the nature and consequences of psychological trauma has resulted in a greater interest in becoming trauma informed. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) providers have begun to incorporate trauma-informed care in their practices. However, there is a lack of research exploring how training in trauma-informed care (TIC) personally and professionally transforms CAM providers. This descriptive phenomenological study explored the lived experience of transformation in CAM providers who participated in TIC training. Transformative learning theory (TLT) was used as the conceptual framework. Nine participants were interviewed, and their experiences of personal and professional transformation were analyzed using …

Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (ADRD) affect African Americans (AA) more than other ethnic or racial groups. It is common for AA diagnosed with ADRD to be cared for in the home. Historically, family members that provide care consist of significant others, relatives, and extended family. Due to the increase in the AA elderly population, the need for family caregivers will increase for this minority group. This study explored how AA family caregivers described their experiences and unique family structure …

Impact Of Case Management Models On Congestive Heart Failure Patients’ Length Of Stay And Readmissions, Kyleigh Camp Lesson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Length of stay (LOS) and readmissions are two metrics that are often at the center of improvement efforts for health care systems. There is a lack of evidence regarding the optimal case management model needed to reduce LOS and readmissions for coronary heart failure (CHF) patients. One initiative that has become nationally recognized as a method to improve LOS and readmissions is effective discharge planning. Discharge planning is conducted by case managers whose primary role is navigating patients’ complex social, physical, and psychological issues. The purpose of this quantitative study focused on CHF patients and compared two case management models …

Relational Health, Minority Stress, And Psychological Well-Being Among Sexual Orientation And Gender Minority Counseling Students, Jinnelle V. Powell

Sexual orientation and gender minority (SGM) counseling students in the United States are exposed to minority stress, which has been linked to psychological distress, during counselor training. A Multidisciplinary Approach To Managing Financial Toxicity In Oncology Patients, Katelin Muse

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Patients with a cancer diagnosis are counseled at length about the standard of care treatment options, which may include surgery, radiation, anticancer medications, and chemo/immunotherapy through an informed consent process.
