Secondary Special Education Teachers’ Perspectives On Professional Socialization In A Maryland School District, Darice Mattie Holmes
Secondary Special Education Teachers’ Perspectives On Professional Socialization In A Maryland School District, Darice Mattie Holmes
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The problem addressed in this study was the insufficient professional socialization of novice secondary special education teachers (SSETs), undermining their ability to adapt to school culture in a Maryland school district (MSD, a pseudonym). Grounded in Mayo's theory of human relations, the purpose of this study was to explore novice SSETs' perceptions of professional socialization through peers, professional development, or mentoring to adapt to the school culture at MSD. For this basic qualitative design, semistructured interviews were conducted with seven novice SSETs. The data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis with Saldaña's coding strategies, yielding four themes: (a) …
Mental Health Professional Preparedness To Address Mental Health Stigma And Challenges In Military Populations, Scott Martin Katzka
Mental Health Professional Preparedness To Address Mental Health Stigma And Challenges In Military Populations, Scott Martin Katzka
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Veterans and service members often delay or avoid engaging in mental health services because of stigma experienced during military service and after transitioning to civilian life, contributing to worsening mental health outcomes. Although mental health professionals (MHPs) with military cultural competence can reduce stigma and improve engagement in care, little is known about how newly trained MHPs perceive their preparedness to effectively serve this population. The purpose of this hermeneutic, phenomenological study was to answer the question of what the lived experiences of new MHPs regarding their preparedness were to support veterans and service members experiencing mental health stigma. Seven …

Bridging The Gap In Child Safeguarding: Teachers' Interpretation Of Safeguarding Policies And Perceived Competence In Inclusive Schools (A Phenomenological Study), Yohanes Subasno, Martinus Irwan Yulius
Journal of ICSAR
This qualitative phenomenological study interprets the experiences of teachers who work with students with disabilities in inclusive schools in Malang, Indonesia. In the safeguarding context, although existing literature has extensively examined safeguarding policies and/or programmatic effectiveness, less attention has been paid to the psychological and professional burdens experienced by teachers within high-risk contexts of victimization faced by children with disabilities. To address this gap, in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 teachers from inclusive primary and secondary schools. Data were analyzed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA) and interpreted through Bronfenbrenner’s socio-ecological framework to situate teachers’ experiences within interconnected micro-, meso-, …

More Than Materials: Understanding The Emotional Labor Of Archivists And Donor Relations, April K. Anderson-Zorn
Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library
Though a crucial part of archives work, emotional labor and its effect on the profession are not well understood. From professional transitions, the loss of a residence, a health crisis, or the loss of a loved one, archivists who have limited experience in working with donors enduring a life crisis can themselves experience emotional trauma. Current archival literature on donor relations primarily focuses on the processes and procedures involved in working with donors to transfer materials. However, there is a notable lack of scholarship on the emotional labor involved in the donation process. The poster will focus on emerging literature …

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and other sexual (LGBTQIA+) community is continuously facing local and international challenges. There is an increasing social integration of LGBTQIA+ individuals, including different forms of discrimination and abuse. Despite worldwide movements and advocacies aiming for gender equality and inclusivity, many are still undergoing social adjustment for acceptance. Various universities and academic institutions are not always pillars of education but can be axes of prejudice and exclusion. By employing a mixed-methods approach, this study aims to investigate the experiences of LGBTQIA+ students in a conservative community of Tawi-Tawi, southern Philippines. This research used …

A 2020 survey of U.S. adults found that nonwhite respondents tended to report lower levels of media literacy than white respondents. However, their media literacy skills were associated with better COVID-19 knowledge and less acceptance of COVID-19 disinformation. This secondary analysis of the dataset (N=1264) explored how aspects of media literacy and media trust varied across communities of color. No significant differences in online information efficacy were found. White respondents scored higher than Hispanic/Latiné and Native American/Indigenous respondents on media literacy for source, and higher than Black and Hispanic/Latiné respondents on media literacy for content. White respondents also …

Journal of International Women's Studies
This study is anchored in feminist understandings of empowerment as a relational process shaped by gendered power hierarchies within households, communities, and financial institutions. We offer a comprehensive analysis of governmental efforts, bank linkages, and economic empowerment of women through micro-finance in Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Although the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) data only provides aggregate financial indicators, we interpret the trends in savings, borrowing, and repayment in dialogue with feminist and intersectional scholarship on microfinance in India. The study provides insights into the role of microfinance in SHGs and the magnitude of support for women’s empowerment, …

Keeping Communities Safe Through An Alternative First Response Model: Predictors Of Civilian First Responders’ Self-Efficacy In Handling Crisis Situations, Jasmine Desiderio
Organization, Information and Learning Sciences ETDs
The expansion of civilian alternative first responder models reflects a national shift toward community-based approaches to crisis intervention. Grounded in Albert Bandura’s social learning theory, this study examined the extent to which demographic characteristics are associated with crisis self-efficacy, explored how perceptions of the responder role relate to confidence, and identified supports necessary for effective crisis response. A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was employed with civilian first responders in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Quantitative data were collected with the Crisis Self-Efficacy Scale, and semi-structured interviews gathered qualitative data. Exploratory regression analyses (n=31) were not reliably associated with crisis self-efficacy, while role …

Ai-Guided Psychodrama Materials For Psychiatric Nursing: Feasibility Of Ai-Validated Synthetic Cases, Yen-Chung Ho, Chien Mei Sung
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background: Psychodrama is widely used in psychiatric–mental health nursing to help learners recognize and reorganize dysfunctional family-of-origin or role patterns, but faculty still lack standardized, reproducible, and ethically safe scripts (Giacomucci, 2021; Beauvais, Özbas, & Wheeler, 2019; Çataldas, Atkan, & Eminoğlu, 2024). Recent work on AI in nursing education and on privacy-preserving synthetic data suggests that high-fidelity, non–patient-derived materials can be generated if outputs are quality-checked (Lifshits & Rosenberg, 2024; Cucci, 2025; Qian et al., 2024; Mendes, Barbar, & Refaie, 2025).
Purpose: To test the feasibility of an AI workflow that generates a synthetic psychodrama case, converts it into multimodal …

The Relationship Between Imposter Syndrome And Organizational Citizenship Behaviors: The Moderating Role Of Gender, Sakina I. Read
The Relationship Between Imposter Syndrome And Organizational Citizenship Behaviors: The Moderating Role Of Gender, Sakina I. Read
Master's Theses
Prior research consistently shows that imposter syndrome is associated with a wide variety of negative psychological and work-related outcomes such as stress, burnout, and lower job satisfaction. However, other research suggests that individuals with higher levels of imposter syndrome may engage in compensatory behaviors such as increased effort and discretionary helping for impression management purposes. Additionally, research has found that women tend to report higher levels of imposter syndrome and higher engagement in organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs) than men, suggesting a gender difference in both variables. The present study sought to examine the relationship between imposter syndrome and OCBs and …

The Role Of Social Emotional Learning In Utah’S Implementation Of Essa, Sharon Walles
Transforming Communities
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), as a policy, offers an additional tool to address the escalating adolescent mental health crisis. By acknowledging the critical link between student well-being, academic success, and evidence-based practices, this policy analysis explores how funding from ESSA can be leveraged to integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) within Utah’s schools. Experts, educators, and parents can be voices to combat misinformation surrounding the recent politicization of SEL and its implementation. This analysis connects Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory, which highlights the interconnectedness of the environment, with the importance of prioritizing mental health within schools to help adolescents with issues …

Bridging The Gap: Critical Resources For Grandparent Caregivers And Their Grandchildren, Kathy Dial, Cara Tonn, Omotomilola Jegede, Cindy Kekeh, Loriena Yancura, Michele Kekeh
GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy
US population estimates indicate that approximately 2.5 million children live apart from both parents. Family relatives, often called kinship caregivers, care for 70% to 90% of these children, with grandparents making up the largest category (Radel et al., 2016). This study aimed to identify the most helpful resources and sources for grandparent caregivers to support the overall well-being of their families. Phone or Zoom interviews were conducted among a purposive sample of 24 grandparent caregivers from February to March 2022 to examine their initial experiences as caregivers, the current support services and resources they received, and other resources and services …

GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy
Kinship caregivers caring for children often lack access to services and supports they need to stabilize their families. Other kinship navigator programs have been shown to improve child permanency, child safety, child wellbeing, and adult wellbeing. This study evaluated Kinnections, a kinship navigator program provided by Wayfinder Family Services, operating since 2007 in seven counties in Northern California. Using propensity score matching, 116 kinship caregivers receiving Kinnections services were matched with 116 kinship caregivers in neighboring counties with no kinship navigator services available. The matched sample showed strong baseline equivalence on key caregiver, child, and household factors. Findings showed …

Montana Kinship Navigator Program: A Statewide Frontier Initiative Promoting Kinship Family Health And Wellness, Daniel J. Koltz Dr., Peyton Vining, Yu Jiang
GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy
This practice brief report describes the development, implementation, and new updates of the Montana Kinship Navigator Program (MTKNP), a statewide initiative designed to support kinship caregivers in a large, rural frontier context. Montana’s geographic isolation, limited infrastructure, and sparse population create significant barriers for kinship families, including restricted access to healthcare, transportation, childcare, and social services. These challenges are compounded when caregivers unexpectedly assume responsibility for children, often with limited resources and support. MTKNP addresses these gaps through a comprehensive, evidence-informed model that integrates information and referral services with individualized case management. The program serves both formal and informal kinship …

From Strangers To Family: Fostering Resilience Through Social Support In Grandmothers Raising Grandchildren, Nancy Mendoza
GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy
Grandparents often unexpectedly assume the role of caregiver with little support. Supporting these caregivers is critical for their health and well-being and that of their grandchildren. This study examines how family-like relationships formed during the GC+ intervention, increasing social support and resilience among grandparent caregivers. Four grandmothers, raising a total of five grandsons, participated in a focus group six months post-intervention. Grandmothers were asked to share their opinions and thoughts regarding the intervention. Using the Convoy Model and Resilience Theory, researchers conducted a deductive content analysis of participants’ perspectives on close family-like relationships cultivated during the intervention. Findings suggest close …
