The Surficial Geology Of Southern Logan County, North Dakota, John W. Bonneville

Southern Logan County, North Dakota, was glaciated at least three different times during the Pleistocene epoch. Scattered patches of highly weathered iron-cemented drift found in the area of eroded Cretaceous bedrock in southwest-era Logan County are very possibly pre-Wisconsinan in age. Two younger drift sheets of Wisconsinan age cover the remaining portion of the county. One of these drifts, the Napoleon drift, is probably early Wisconsinan, and the other, the Burnstad-Streeter drift, is likely late Wisconsinan in age.

A great diversity in types of glacial topography and individual features is found in southern Logan County. Excellent examples of end moraine, …

The public educators are attempting to prepare man for life and the religious educators are attempting to prepare man for eternity. There have been many studies concerning the public school drop-outs, but this is the first one concerning seminary drop-outs.

This is a study of certain high school and college students to the thirteen Fireside Programs given under the direction of the General Authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the first three months of 1960. Theories of vocational choice are of current and vital interest to the counseling profession. Roe's theoretical work based on the Freudian assumption that occupational choice is related to family atmostphere has particularly stimulated recent research in this area. This study similarly follows her theory and employs Dr. Nachmann's techniques who tested comparable hypotheses with different groups in 1957.

The problem of this study was to determine if there were certain differences in the childhood experience of physicists, L.D.S. seminary teachers, and outstanding competitive athletes. Fifteen B.Y.U. students were interviewed in each group, the interviews following the items of a questionnaire. …

The purpose of the study was to gain an increased understanding of what the L.D.S. person feels during the process of divorce and postdivorce readjustment by (1) developing an interview guide to obtain the necessary data on divorce, (2) determining how strong the feelings of failure, guilt, and trauma were at different phases of the divorce process, (3) determining how the feelings of failure, guilt, and trauma were related to membership in the L.D.S. Church, its teachings, and contacts with Church authorities, and (4) gaining insights which might provide a basis for later investigation.

The Book of Mormon contains twenty-one chapters of the Book of Isaiah: two through fourteen, twenty-nine, and forty-eight through fifty-four. The language is primarily that of the King James Version with some variations. The King James Version itself has been translated from the Massoretic Hebrew Text. It is a fair assumption that the variations in the Book of Mormon represent an older, more accurate text than the Massoretic Text.

The purpose of this thesis is to give a biographical account of the life and labors of Charles Ora Card in order to show his contributions to the idle history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in particular to the Latter-day Saint communities of Logan, Utah, and Cardston, Alberta.

This work is based upon information found in journals kept by Charles Ora Card, supplemented with information from books, newspapers, manuscripts, diaries, and interviews to enrich and amplify the account.

Preston, Idaho, a small agricultural community in northern Cache Valley, in early times was a hunting ground for Indians who camped nearby. The first white men to visit the area were trappers, immigrants and explorers. Mormon settlers had pushed to its borders by 1860.

Unlike most communities of Cache Valley, the greater Preston area, known then as Worm Creek, was settled by individual enterprise. In 1868 Dennis W. Winn became the first settler in that part of Worm Creek known as the "Flat" or "Sandridge" which later became Preston. Other settlers located along Worm Creek to the east.

For more than half a century Amos Milton Musser was a conspicuous figure in the social, religious, and business life of Utah.

Amos Milton Musser, the second son and fourth child of Samuel and Anna Barr Musser, was born in Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, May 20, 1830. When he was four years old, his father died. after three years of widowhood, his mother remarried, but her husband, Abraham Bitner, soon died, leaving her with two additional children.

Jesse Knight was born in 1845 near Nauvoo, Illinois, the son of Newel and Lydia G. Knight, early converts to the Mormon faith. In 1850, with his widowed mother, Jesse traveled by wagon across the plains to Salt Lake City where the family remained until 1858 when orders came to move south ahead of the Utah Expedition.
Jesse spent the rest of his childhood and his teen years in Provo, Utah, where he lived with his mother and later with an older brother. He worked as a teamster in most of the jobs he had and grew to young manhood …

Psilocybe mutans sp. nov. had ceased fruiting consistently in artificial culture several years prior to the initiation of this study. In the couse of this study fruiting bodies were produced on a number of different substrates. All cultures were inoculated by mycelial transfer or by spraying with a suspension of pre-germinated spores. All cultrues were incubated for one to two weeks in a constant-temperature room at 70°F. on a shelf fourteen inches below a fluorescent lighting fixture. Lighting was continuous with an intensity at shelf level of approximately 3,000 foot-candles. Fruiting on any particular substrate was improved if the substrate …

Culex tarsalis Coquillett is a common evening pest mosquito throughout the summer in most of temperate Western North America. Present evidence indicates this mosquito as the principal naturally infected vector of western equine encephalomyeltic (WEE) viruses. Certain interrelationships of WEE epidemiology and tarsalis bionomics are basically understood; however, in areas where winters are severe little is know of tarsalis hibernation, and the survival mechanism for WEE viruses in unknown. A root study was undertaken to learn about bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata (Pursh) DC) and cliffrose (Cowania stansburiana torr.) to gain some clues, perhaps, as to the causes of their present distribution. In a period extending from July 1959 to July 1960, twenty-four plants were excavated on six different sites in the Wasatch foothill belt in Utah County, Utah. Root and some soil characteristics were analyzed, described and compared.
