The U.S. Forest service, recognizing the scenic, scientific, and educational value of the Cascade Springs area near Mount Timpanogos, has set aside and begun development of this spot for the use of the general public. As part of their preparatory work they have asked that examination be made of the flora, fauna 9 and physical features which may in part be incorporated into public informational facilities being constructed at the springs.

Small mammals, with their numerous adaptations, have successfully inhabited most biotic communities. Interactions arising from competition among small mammals in these communities may lead to a rather complex social organization with poorly defined boundaries which limit the movement of individuals. Important among these are territorial boundaries sometimes established by small mammals to protect all or part of their home range.

This thesis is a study of the native and naturalized species of Salix in Utah, and is based upon the following methods. A review of all available literature was accomplished in order to compile a list of species. Type specimens were obtained from the University of California at Berkeley, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Gray Herbarium of Harvard University, University of Utah, and Utah State University. About five-hundred specimens were collected in twenty counties during the fall fo 1965 and the spring of 1966. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of two different methods of administering conditioning exercises. The two methods studied were the circuit training method and the calisthenic method.

The subjects selected for this study were thirty-nine fourth, fifth, and sixth grade boys from the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The thirty-nine subjects were equated into three groups with thirteen in each group. The three groups were the circuit training group, the calisthenic group, and the control group. The objective of this study was to determine the correlation of the drag coefficient of an accelerating sphere in the liquid medium over a range of Reynolds number from 0.1 to 100, 000. The problem involved in this thesis is to investigate the causes for Senator Nye's defeat in the 1944 Senatorial election. The particular problem involved here is that isolationism has been commonly interpreted as the decisive reason for his defeat. This, however, is a singular interpretation of history largely stemming from the national scene while ignoring developments on the local level.

The problem was to determine whether a combination of conventional and programed instruction was more effective than conventional instruction alone in the teaching of a ninth-grade Physical Science unit, "Matter,Atoms, and Molecules." The three treatment groups compared were (1) the Conventional Group, (2) the Introductory Group, in which the programed material was used as initiatory assignments, and (3) the Review Group, in which the programed material was used as review assignments. Student achievement was measured by means of the Adjusted Recall Gain Score, the Adjusted Application Gain Score, and the Adjusted Total Gain Score.

The ecological life history of budsage (Artemisia spinescens D.C. Eaton) was investigated during 1963 and 1964. The field studies were conducted at the Desert Experimental Range in Millard County, Utah. Laboratory studies were done at Brigham Young University. The different community types in which budsage grows were described and the physical site factors, viz. climate, soil texture, total soluble salts, hydrogen ion concentration of the soil, carbonate content and soil moisture were investigated. The purpose of this study was (a) to discover if there are significant differences in the straight-copy skill scores of two groups of typewriting students at the end of one year of instruction— one group began their instruction on electric typewriters and the other on manuals; (b) to obtain student opinion concerning electric and manual typewriters.

The relationship of the sintering characteristics of lignite ash to the known fouling tendency of the ash was investigated.

The investigation includes the determination of the temperature at which sintering begins and the correlation of fouling tendency of the ash to the compressive strength developed during the sintering of ash specimens. The significance of sample preparation, sodium content, and treatment temperature was determined by statistical analysis of the data.

The temperature at which sintering begins was determined for samples of ash prepared in the laboratory. Differences in this sinter temperature were observed for samples with different fouling tendencies. The sinter …

Other workers have attributed the anomalous absorption of ultrasonic waves in certain liquid mixtures as being due to the formation of molecule clusters. A study was performed on two binary liquid mixtures employing small angle scattering of x-rays. Water-tertiary butanol mixtures and ethanol-glycerin mixtures were each studied in various concentrations.

The scattered intensity was measured as a function of scattering angle. Certain necessary corrections on the raw data were performed. Using this corrected data a Guinier plot was made for each solution studied. From the Guinier plot it was possible to determine a radius of gyration for the clusters in …

This study was directly concerned with physical fitness as measured by the American Association for Health, physical Education, and Recreation Physical Fitness Test. The purpose of this study was to obtain accurate quantitative estimates of the high temperature tolerance of five species of anuran amphibians, Bufo hemiophrvs. Rana plpiens, R. sylvatlca, R. septentrionalis, and Pseudacris nigrita. B. hemiophrvs and P. nlqrlta were collected in the vicinity of Grand Forks, North Dakota; the remaining species were collected at Itasca State Park, Minnesota. The purpose of this study was to determine the changes elicited by modern dance techniques on the flexibility and body balance of college f r e s h man football players.

Two groups were requested to participate in the study. An experimental group of fifteen subjects, which experienced a modern dance program twice weekly, and a control group of thirteen subjects, that did not participate in modern dance, were utilized in this study.
