Verbal Discrimination Learning As A Function Of Manipulated Frequency And Length Of Study Interval, David R. Skeen

The purpose of this pair of studies was to investigate three hypotheses generated by the frequency theory of verbal discrimination learning. The frequency principle suggests that a number of sequential events occur in verbal discrimination learning and that each event in the sequence leads eventually to a greater number of frequency units being associated with the correct alternative in each verbal discrimination unit.

It was hypothesized that an increase in study time would be positively related to acquisition of a verbal discrimination list. Second, it was predicted that discrimination pairs constructed of high frequency stimuli would be more difficult to …

This study was designed to gather information pertaining to the status of recreation and parks in North Dakota cities. This study was structured to gain information on park and recreation responsibilities, recreation programs and services, park and recreation facilities and recreation and park financial procedures of cities in North Dakota.

The survey technique was employed in this study. Questionnaires were mailed to cities in North Dakota with a population of 75 or more people. Two hundred and ninety questionnaires were sent out and 215 were returned for a total return of 74.1 per cent.

Problem. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of teacher aides would show any change in teachers' patterns of communication.

Procedure. Teachers of three schools, paired with three other schools by factors such as plant facilities, student enrollment and student/ teacher ratio, served as the control group. The teachers of the three other schools served as the experimental group with teacher aides employed as the criterion measure. The 1966 Republican Campaign in North Dakota discusses the efforts of the Party from May, 1965 through November, 1966. The pre-convention period illustrates the effort of the North Dakota Republicans to rebuild their organization after the 1964 defeat. Analysis of this effort is made with regard to finances, organization, and research.

The study then discusses the 1966 state convention, the rise of youth in the Party organization, background and insight into all the races, and a complete tabulation of all ballots. Special emphasis is placed on the problem of the John Birch Society and on how that problem was resolved …

The purpose of this study was to ascertain what effects the use of ankle weights would have on standing broad jumping performance of selected high school basketball players.

Three groups of twelve subjects each were used in this study. Each group was tested at the start of the experimental period, after six v/eeks of training and at the end of the twelfth training week. The test involved standing broad jumping performance measured to the nearest one-fourth inch.

The purpose of this study was to determine what types of zone offense are used by Class "A" High School Basketball Coaches in North Dakota.

Thirty-seven questionnaires along with basketball court diagrams with four different zone defenses already drawn on them were sent to all Class "A" basketball coaches. Thirty-one questionnaires were received and an analysis made. Each type of offense was then drawn and explained on a court diagram.

The most common defense encountered within the last five years was the "2-1-2" zone defense.

A study of tumbleweeds in North Dakota, conducted from June, 1964 to October, 1968, was concentrated on two common species: Psoralea arqophvlla Pursh (silver leaf psoralea) and Kochia scoparia (L.) Schrader (kochia). The objectives were to determine the internal or external factors regulating stem abscission, and to describe the niche of each species through the ecological life history approach. Anatomical and histochemical studies were conducted on the basal portions of stems at various stages of plant maturity. The study was undertaken to learn the life history of Sceloporus occidentalis longipes and its environmental adaptations on a high plateau (Rainier Mesa) with an elevation of 2,286 meters, at the Atomic Energy Commission's Nevada Test Site in Nye County, Nevada. The lizards emerge from hibernation in April with the males preceeding the females by a period of one to two weeks or more. Mating occurs in late April, May, and perhaps early June. The overwintering habitats and winter mortality rates of predaceous mites (Phytoseiidae: Typhlodromus) were investigated during three successive winters, 1965-66, 1966-67, and 1967-68. Three species were predominant in derelict apple orchards, Typhlodromus mcgregori Chant on twigs and spurs and rough bark of scaffold limbs and trunk, Typhlodromus occidentalis Nesbitt on rough bark of scaffold limbs and trunk, and Amblyseius cucumeris Oudemans in ground cover. Other species (Typhlodromus columbiensis Chant, Typhlodromus caudiglans Schuster, Amblyseius fallacis (Garman), Amblyseius ovatus (Garman), Amblyseius floridanus (Muma), and Amblyseius rosellus Chant) were collected only incidentally. The rare earths form series of compounds which are known for several elements but end abruptly or undergo a change of structure at some member of the series. The diantimonides are one such series. Sb-Sb repulsion becomes stronger as the rare earth size decreases and the previously known series ended at Sm. During the spring seasons of 1967 and 1968 ecological studies were made of nesting Ferruginou.s Hawks (Buteo regalis) in a 325 square mile area in west-central Utah. In the springs of 1967 and 1968 a systematic search was conducted throughout the study area for Ferruginous Hawk nests. When active nests were located they were kept under observation throughout the study. The density of nesting pairs in 1967 and 1968 ranged from 7 to 15.4 square miles per pair. This vegetational analysis is concerned with changes which have cocurred since 1949 in a mountain brush community within an exclosure in the central Wasatch Mountains. The exclosure, established in 1949, is located in Pole Canyon on lower Provo Canyon. A study was made of factors that influence production of different numbers of flower stalks of crested wheatgrass on grazed and ungrazed areas. Both laboratory and field studies were made. Greatest response in flower stalk production resulted from application of nitrogen in the field, amounting to an increase of from 5 to 10 times the numbers of flower stalks on untreated areas. Responses of plants in the greenhouse supported these results. Plants grown in the dark indicated that higher carbohydrate reserves existed in ungrazed than in grazed plants. The purpose of this study was to determine the method of multiple embryo formation in netleaf hackberry, Celtis reticulata Torr. Collections of specimens were made throughout a two-year period. Collections were begun in early spring while the trees were still in the bud state. Collections were continued regularly throughout the growing season. This thesis describes my study of inhibition of brain regeneration in planaria. The flatworm (Dugesia tigrina) possesses a remarkable ability to regenerate lost parts, including the head. The primary objective of my study was to determine the extent to which an inhibiting substance, located in the head, would prevent regeneration of the brain. Seedlings of Indian rice grass Oryzopsis hvmenoides (Roem. & Shult.) Ricker. were studied to determine the effect of soil moisture, photoperiod, depth of burial of germinated grains, temperature, and the rate of soil accumulation on seedling growth and tillering. The study was performed in two phases: Field observations and laboratory studies. Field observations were made on a system of sand dunes located northwest of Lynndyl, Utah. General observations were made from January, 1966 to May, 1968.
