The purpose of this study was to determine the status of intramural athletics in Manitoba, secondary schools in 1963 and again in, 1968 and to compare the two sets of data in an attempt to determine current trends in the intramural pro- . grams throughout the province.

A questionnaire was mailed to one hundred forty-nine secondary schools in 1963* The questionnaire was again mailed in 1968 to those schools which responded to the first questionnaire. From extensive research undertaken by Rensis Likert at the University of Michigan, a modified theory of administration has been developed which seeks to build upon all that worked best in previous approaches to administration.

Sufficient information from the writings of Joseph Smith, from diaries and journals of those who worked under his leadership have been used in this thesis and compared with the model of administration proposed by Likert. The results of this work were that Joseph Smith in his administration most often used a leadership approach described by Likert as Consultative and Participative.

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the LDS Seminary Scripture Chase in the following areas: (1) Principles of learning involved; (2) Percentage of full-time teachers using the Scripture Chase; (3) Teacher evaluation of the Scripture Chase in terms of (a) teacher training in the Scripture Chase, (b) student involvement and application, (c) areas of effectiveness and (d) evaluation and rating of the over-all program.
Questionnaires were sent to 498 full-time Seminary teachers in Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Canada with a return of 80.3 percent. The data revealed that 143, or 33 percent regularly use …

The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to attitudes of teenagers toward the Family Home Evening Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hypotheses involving the relationships of certain factors to attitudes toward home evening were tested.

A cluster sample of twenty-three ninth grade classes was selected and data were gathered through use of a questionnaire. Statistics used in analysis of data included the Pearsonian product moment correlation coefficient, and analysis of variance. Responses to open-end questions were content analyzed by three independent judges.

Tetracyclines, originally isolated in the late 1940's and early 1950's from the mycelium of Streptomyces, have achieved major importance as therapeutic and prophylactic agents against a wide range of infections in human and veterinary medicine. They have also achieved great importance in agriculture where they are widely used to promote weight gain in livestock. Commercial production, during 1958 in the United States alone was 120 tons with a value of approximately $1 million per ton.

The purpose of this study was to determine how effectively seminary teachers teach the concept of "living prophets" to students in non-credit released time and early morning seminary classes.
The study was composed of a sample of 475 seminary students in non-credit released time and early morning seminary classes, and twenty seminary teachers. Each participant answered a questionnaire to test his concept of "living prophets." The responses were tabulated and presented in written and illustrative form.

The purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to develop criteria for creating thematic literature units appropriate to the English language facility and to the culture of students in the LDS secondary schools in the South Pacific, and (b) to create three thematic literature units at the Form 5 (11th grade) level which would exemplify the recommended criteria.
An analysis of questionnaire responses revealed that a concept-centered approach to literature should take precedence, with geographical literature—especially Polynesian—also receiving emphasis. A survey was conducted to determine the responses of the public to the First Festival of Mormon Art on exhibition at the Brigham Young University. Data were collected by means of questionnaires made available to gallery visitors. Through these responses it was determined that:
(1) Over three-fourths of the visiting public felt that art is important in relation to the Gospel. There was a positive correlation between the respondents' interest and experience in art and their feelings for the importance of art in relation to the Gospel.

In this thesis: (1) a religious experience typology was constructed and used to discover whether or not a sequential order existed of religious experiences from the least to most intimate type, (2) the relationship between religious experiences and church orthodoxy was examined, and (3) several background variables were investigated to clarify the above relationship.

It was found 276 Mormons that religious experiences develop in a sequential order from the least to the most intimate type and that a moderate relationship exists between religious experiences and church orthodoxy. Certain frequent long words in the Kogi (Aruakan) language of Colombia, South America, were regularly translated by the first linguists who worked in the area as meaning 'and so' or 'afterwards', in spite of the fact that the words were highly variable, and complicated in structure.

When the author and his wife began working on the language, the only additional clue available to them was the information, from one of the previous scholars, that one syllable in the words marked indicative mood.

An isotopic equilibrium method was employed, based on the chronic feeding of an 125I-labeled diet of known specific activity, to determine the distribution and quantitation of endogenously labeled iodine-containing compounds in the female rat at various periods during gestation and post-parturition. A decrease was associated with gestation in the total iodine, which was significant in all extrathyroidal tissues except the brain and muscle, and a fall in thyroxine concentration which was significant in all extrathyroidal tissues except the heart. The triiodothyronine level decreased from the control values in gestation but not as consistently. There was also a significant decrease in …

The ideal bandpass filter is defined as one which uniformly attenuates and delays all frequency components within the passband and effects zero transmission of all components outside the passband. For reasons which will be subsequently discussed, it is impossible to realize a stable lumped-element filter having this ideal characteristic. This has made it necessary to find ways to physically approximate such a characteristic. Some of the more widely used methods will be compared and analyzed in this paper.

Values of thermodynamic stability constants at 25°C for the complexes of serine with the metal ions. Co^2+, Ni^2+, Cd^2+, Zn^2+, and Cu^2+ were obtained from pH titration data. All measurements were made in aqueous solution, and data were obtained at three different ionic strengths for each metal ion studied. It was assumed that the activity of the zwitterion is unity. The effect of metal ion hydrolysis upon the log K values was taken into account for the calculations. Scorpions from Utah were collected and studied to determine species present, geographic distribution, seasonal occurrence, sex ratio, and some morphological variations associated with distribution. Nine species were identified--Anuroctonus phaeodactylus, Centruroides sculpturatus, Hadrurus arizonensis, H. spadix, Vejovis becki, V. boreus, V. confusus, V. wupatkiensis, and an undescribed species of Vejovis, subgenus Paruroctonus. Five species--C. sculpturatus, H. arizonensis, V. becki, V. confusus, and V. wupatkiensis--are reported from Utah for the first time. Most specimens were collected from May through October, with greatest numbers taken in May, June, and July. Sex ratios differed with the species. Two species--A. phaeodactylus and V. boreus--showed statistically …

Three predominant and economically important shrubs of the sagebrush-grass range community in Utah, namely big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata Nutt.), rubber rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus (Pall.) Britt.), antelope bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata (Pursh) DC), and a widely re-seeded range grass, crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum (L.) Gaertn.) were sampled during the summers of 1966 and 1967, and yielded twenty species of thrips. Three species (Anaphothrips tricolor Moulton, Chirothrips aculeatus Bagnall, Chirothrips simplex Hood) were new distributional records for Utah. Rhenium oxides as well as other rhenium compounds are known to display a broad spectrum of catalytic activity,^25 being resistant to attack by acids under nonoxidizing conditions, and showing a remarkable ability to resist poisoning which is a serious limiting factor in many commonly used catalysts. Rhenium catalysts are cheaper than the platinum metals with the exception of palladium. One of the most remarkable properties of the rhenium catalyst is the ability to catalyze the hydrogenation of carboxylic acids and amides to the corresponding alcohols and amines respectively.
