Communication Of Experimenter Expectancy As A Function Of The Internal-External Locus Of Control, Diane M. Harder
Communication Of Experimenter Expectancy As A Function Of The Internal-External Locus Of Control, Diane M. Harder
Theses and Dissertations
Several studies suggest) that experimenters may influence subjects in experimental situations and thereby obtain the predicted results (Rosenthal, 1966). Thus, the results obtained in research may reflect (1) independent vatfiabl.es, and (2) bi. resulting from the communication of expectancies by the experimenter.
Although numerous investiga^ ons have considered characteristics of experir nters and subjects that facilitate expectancy communication, the experimenter effect remains inadequately explained (Fode, 1967). It was felt that the Investigation of an additional variable, internal-external locus of ontrol, (Rotter, 1954) might contribute further informationL Past research suggested that internal subjects are better influencers (Pharos, 1965), and that they …
Information Extraction And Incidental Learning As Functions Of Locus Of Control, Motivation, And Sex, James Newell Hall
Information Extraction And Incidental Learning As Functions Of Locus Of Control, Motivation, And Sex, James Newell Hall
Theses and Dissertations
Past research findings on information extraction as a function of locus of control have been conflicting. By using a hidden-word task ■ with each of the twenty items being exposed for one second, this was investigated in a three way analysis of variance design (locus of control by sex by motivation). Hypothesized, but not found, was a significant personality by motivation (instructions) interaction. Furthermore, no significant differences were found between internals and externals, males and females, and high and low motivation conditions.
An attempt at replication and extension of Spjut's (1968) study on incidental learning and locus of control was …
Attitude Change In Relation To The Primacy-Recency Problem And Retention-Acceptance Factors, Barry L. Johnson
Attitude Change In Relation To The Primacy-Recency Problem And Retention-Acceptance Factors, Barry L. Johnson
Theses and Dissertations
In attempting to persuade people, it is still not clear whether information presented first (primacy) or information presented last (recency) is more influential. Miller and Campbell (1959) found a primacy effect when they utilized a one week delay prior to obtaining a measurement with their post-test. They also obtained a measure of retention and found that this did not account for the attitude change. They agreed with Hovland (1957) that acceptance factors might be affecting the final opinion change.
This study attempted to clarify the role played by retention and acceptance factors on primacy-recency effects. A one week delay was …
Development Of Procedures For Determination Of Yield Lines, Rafik Y. Itani
Development Of Procedures For Determination Of Yield Lines, Rafik Y. Itani
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis presents methods for determining yield line patterns of isotropic plates that are uniform in thickness and subjected to a uniform loading. The importance of these methods arises from the mathematical complications involved in finding yield line patterns by the present procedures .
Since yielding patterns are dependent on the shape of a plate as well as the support conditions, the methods recommended here will be based on assuming a yielding pattern and checking for its correctness. The use of the computer can provide many trial solutions in a very short time. The correct pattern will be that which …

Differential Behavior On Skill And Chance Tasks As A Function Of Perceived Locus Of Control, Michael D. Paulson
Theses and Dissertations
This investigation was designed to examine differences in behavior that may exist between internals and externals on skill and chance tasks. Since internals should be more motivated in a skill task, it was hypothesized that they would show more trials to extinction, more frustration, and more arousal in acquisition and extinction on the skill task than externals. Since externals should be more motivated on a chance task, it was hypothesized that they would show more trials to extinction, more frustration, and more arousal in acquisition and extinction on the chance task than internals.
Subjects were pre-selected on the basis of …
Accounting Treatment Of Research And Development Costs, Cecil B. Ellis
Accounting Treatment Of Research And Development Costs, Cecil B. Ellis
Theses and Dissertations
The expenditures for industrial research and development by companies have increased significantly in recent years and this has had a dramatic impact upon the reported financial position and results of operations of those companies engaged in substantial research and development programs. It was determined that the majority of companies treat research and development costs as a current expense which in many instances does not adhere to sound accounting theory. The companies justified using the current expense method in accounting for research and development expenditures because of conservatism, expediency, the uncertainty of future benefits, and the acceptability by the Internal Revenue …

The sulfonation of bromobenzene with sulfur trioxide in liquid sulfur dioxide at -12 to -13° C. was studied to determine its relative reactivity. The relative rate constant ratio, kbenzene/kbromobenzene, was found to be 28.6 in a competitive reaction between benzene and bromobenzene. The isomer distribution was found to be 0.15 ± 0.02% for the meta, 0.91 ± 0.04% for the ortho and 98.93 ± 0.14% for the para isomers. The partial rate factors were calculated to be pf= 0.208, of= 0.0096 and mf = 0.00018. The relative rate data exhibited a distinctive behaviour previously noted in related systems, possibly due …
High Pressure Spectral Chemistry Of Selected Organic Compounds, Frank William Linsley
High Pressure Spectral Chemistry Of Selected Organic Compounds, Frank William Linsley
Theses and Dissertations
The series of compounds indicated by the formular C_6H_5-(CH=CH)n-C_6H_5 change in color from white (colorless) to yellow to orange to red to deep red as n increases from 1 to 12. Stilbene is the first compound of this series (n=1). Under pressure, exerted by a diamond anvil press, stilbene can be seen to change color from white to yellow to red as increasing pressure is applied. Similar color changes are observed for the compounds where n=2,3, and 4 when subjected to similar pressure. This study records and reports the spectra versus pressure for these compounds.

Calorigenic Effects Of Thyroxine And Triiodothyronine On Rat Diaphragm., Robert Lee Chambers
Calorigenic Effects Of Thyroxine And Triiodothyronine On Rat Diaphragm., Robert Lee Chambers
Theses and Dissertations
Since the isolation of triiodothyronine (T3) by Pitt-Rivers and Gross (1953) several questions as to its role as a thyroid hormone arose. Does T3 have the same or different actions than that of thyroxine (T4 )? Is T3 an emergency hormone, since its synthesis relative to T4 is greatly increased during periods of low iodine intake and its response time is I/5th that of T4 (Ackerman and Arons, 1958)? Are there any interactions modifying their respective actions?

The mountain brush type in Utah was studied in 1932, 1942, and 1969 to determine the vegetation changes and trends after grazing and protection from grazing for 37 years. Analyses for cover, frequency and composition percentages, production and plant counts were made on fifty 100 square-foot plots in a ten-acre exclosure and on a five-acre grazed area adjacent to the exclosure. Production, cover and composition percentages for good and fair forage species of grasses and browse have decreasesed on the grazed plots whereas they generally increased in the ungrazed plots. Forbs of intermediate forage value have increased in production, cover …
Donor Properties Of Dimethylsulfoniumcyclopentadienylide And Tetramethylenesulfoniumcyclopentadienylide In Metal Complexes ; Part Ii. The Attempted Preparation Of Boron Tricyanide, Gary Scott Barney
Theses and Dissertations
Part I.--Complexes of dimethylsulfoniumcyclopentadientylide and tetramethylenesulfoniumcyclopentadienylide with metal ions were studied in order to determine the coordination site on the ylids. Infrared spectra indicate that the ylids are coordinated through the cyclopentadienyl ring in all complexes except for the Hg(CN)2 complexes. Coordination-of the HgI2, CdI2, ZnCl2, and AgNO3 complexes is through the number one position on the ring as suggested by NMR data. Infrared and NMR data strongly indicate that the ylids in the Hg(CN)2 complexes are coordinated through sulfur. Part II.--The only method given in the chemical literature for the preparation of boron tricyanide could not be duplicated in …
The Effects Of Euploid Changes In Chromosome Number On Various Physiological Factors In Tomatoes, Barley And Rye, Larry Wayne Peterson
The Effects Of Euploid Changes In Chromosome Number On Various Physiological Factors In Tomatoes, Barley And Rye, Larry Wayne Peterson
Theses and Dissertations
Leaf tissue of diploid, triploid, and tetraploid tomatoes (var. UF-36) and diploid and tetraploid barley (var. Steel and Midsummer) were analyzed for total chlorophyll, soluble protein, dry weight, ribulose-1,5-diphosphate carboxylase, phosphoribulokinase, and peroxidase. Polyploidy caused a slight increase of all factors in Midsummer rye, had a variable effect on Steel rye and Everest barley, and caused a reduction in tomatoes and Barbless barley when the factors were determined on a fresh weight basis. In tomatoes, if the ribulose-1,5-diphosphate carboxylase activity was determined on protein content, dry weight or cell number the tetraploid form had higher activity than the diploid form. …
