Hemispheric Specialization And The Processing Of Stroop Color-Word Stimuli, Joel Patrick Newman Jan 1982

Hemispheric Specialization And The Processing Of Stroop Color-Word Stimuli, Joel Patrick Newman

Theses and Dissertations

The present investigation examined neuropsychological hypothesis of Stroop color-word interference. It was hypothesized that the combination of verbal and color content in one stimulus provided an opportunity to examine relative left- and right-hemisphere contributions to cognition in neurologically-intact subjects. Several individual difference variables of lateral brain function, including characteriological or trait anxiety and situation-specific arousal, were chosen as independent variables. Additionally, visual field of presentation and hand of response were systematically varied.Subjects consisted of neurologically intact psychiatric inpatients, professional hospital staff, undergraduate students, and members of the community as a whole. They received discretely projected Stroop color-word stimuli in the …

There is a need for supplemental reference material of an in-depth, specific nature to suggest methods of general application to the novice film director. Because film production is such a highly collaborative art, craft, and business with limited opportunities open to beginners, the novice director can benefit a great deal from the documented experiences of another. This study will provide insight into the practical role of the film director in motion picture production. In this way, this study can influence directorial practice in a positive manner by offering a forewarning of potential production challenges and help the novice to avoid …

Petrology And Alteration In The Core Of The Bear Lodge Tertiary Intrusive Complex, Bear Lodge Mountains, Crook County, Wyoming, Michael Wilkinson

Theses and Dissertations

The Bear Lodge complex is an elongate, dome-shape uplift about 8.5 km long by 4 km wide, 10 km northwest of Sundance, Wyoming. The study area is centered about Warren Peaks and includes approximately 23 km2. The igneous intrusive core of the complex is mostly alkali trachyte but latite is abundant in the southern portion of the complex. Phonolite, pseudoleucite trachyte porphyry, and carbonatite dikes cut across the core. Precambrian granitic rocks and lower Paleozoic sedi mentary rocks flank the intrusion and occur as xenoliths.

The latite is relatively unaltered and consists mostly of oligo clase, andesine, alkali feldspar, salite, …

Analysis Of Petroleum Source Rocks Of The Bakken Formation (Devonian And Mississippian) In North Dakota, Rick L. Webster Jan 1982

Analysis Of Petroleum Source Rocks Of The Bakken Formation (Devonian And Mississippian) In North Dakota, Rick L. Webster

Theses and Dissertations

The Bakken Formation of North Dakota consists of upper and lower, black, organic-rich shales separated by a calcareous siltstone middle member. The formation is a relatively thin unit (maximum thickness of 145 feet) with the lower shale .attaining a maximum thickness of 50 feet and the upper shale a maximum thickness of 23 feet. The shales are hard, siliceous, pyritic, fissile, and noncalcareous. They contain abundant conodonts and tasmanites and have planar laminations accented by pyrite. The upper and lower shales were apparently deposited in an offshore, marine, anoxic environment where anoxic conditions may have been caused by silling of …

The Relationship Of Frequency And Social Desirability Of First Names With Academic And Sex Role Variables., Debra Ruth Crisp

Theses and Dissertations

Much research has been done to support the notion that name stereotypes exist. These stereotypes appear to be related to the popularity of names. The present study was conducted in an effort to discover whether certain types of names were actually associated with different behavioral or attitudinal factors in the people who possessed those names. For a sample of 1094 University of North Dakota students who were first-time entering freshmen in the fall of 1977, the following data was collected, as much as possible, for every subject: first name; the number of times the name occurred in the population; a social …

Mary And Simon: A Novel., Harry Edwin Eiss

Theses and Dissertations

Mary and Simon: A Novel chronicles a period in the lives of three generations of two families in the Mid-western United States during a period of roughly thirty years, 1880-1910. In an early scene Simon fishes, apparently unconcerned that some twenty yards away Mary hangs from a tree, dead. The novel then moves back and forth through their lives, enriching the meaning and significance of this initial scene. Both the structure and the poetic truth of the novel are based on the principle of Theme-and-Variation, an important principle of art, particularly in music, the principle by which the main idea or …

Studies On Hepatic Glucose-6-Phosphatase And Glucokinase., Phillip Lee Stepanik Jan 1982

Studies On Hepatic Glucose-6-Phosphatase And Glucokinase., Phillip Lee Stepanik

Theses and Dissertations

Studies of the effects of micromolar concentrations of a variety of di- and trivalent cations on glucokinase and hexokinase activities of rat liver found potent inhibition of both enzymes by Cu('+2) or Cr('+3). As determined by the Dixon and the Cornish-Bowden graphical methods of analysis for enzyme inhibition, Cr('+3) was a mixed inhibitor of glucokinase when either D-glucose or ATP and MgCl(,2) are the substrates varied and Cu('+2) was a competitive inhibitor of gluokinase when D-glucose is the substrate varied. The preference of glucose-6-phosphatase to catalyze glucose-6-P hydrolysis via the glucose-6-P phosphohydrolase reaction was compared to its synthesis via the phosphotransferase …
