Paleocene Coal-Bearing Sediments Of The Williston Basin, North Dakota : An Interaction Between Fluvial Systems And An Intracratonic Basin, Laramie M. Winczewski
Paleocene Coal-Bearing Sediments Of The Williston Basin, North Dakota : An Interaction Between Fluvial Systems And An Intracratonic Basin, Laramie M. Winczewski
Theses and Dissertations
Outcrop and test hole data for 225 sites in a 33,700-km2 area of southwestern North Dakota were examined. Seven sedimentation intervals were identified for the Paleocene Bullion Creek and Sentinel Butte Formations. The intervals extend from the top of the Harmon coal (lower Bullion Creek) to the top of the Twin Buttes coal (upper Sentinel Butte). Each interval consists of medium and fine elastics underlying a persistent lignite coal, or some other lithology at the stratigraphic position of the coal. Clastics are finer-grained upwards within intervals and within both formations to the upper Sentinel Butte.

6 Cubicles (Original Drama)., Daniel Warren Landes
6 Cubicles (Original Drama)., Daniel Warren Landes
Theses and Dissertations
6 Cubicles is a three act drama that is best labeled a "tragicomedy." The plot revolves around the life of Hilda Stag, an elderly English professor whose obsessive behavior is best typified by her kleptomania and her mania for watching soap operas. Eventually Hilda's bad habits are chosen by her colleagues as the "sins" of the faculty office for which "atonement" must be made. Hilda thus becomes a scapegoat who is "sacrificed" by her officemates by means of a seemingly harmless prank. Suffering a mental breakdown, Hilda fantasizes herself in a religious soap opera but is victimized here as well, …

A Study Of Aristotle's "De Anima": Perception As An Epistemological Concept., Muhamad Ndaula Lubambula Sansa
Theses and Dissertations
The research problem is to investigate and analyze perception as an epistemological concept in the writings of Aristotle, using De Anima as the focus for the study. The purpose is to identify and analyze the epistemological premises in Aristotle's theory of perception with particular reference to the intellective process. The Aristotelian concepts utilized as the framework are perception, empiricism, imagination, memory, Aristotle's doctrine of potentiality and actuality and his theory of nous.Aristotle held that perception implies both conception and sense perception. He says that in sense perception the sense organ receives the form without its matter and the object actualizes the …

Depositional Environments And Sandstone Diagenesis In The Tyler Formation (Pennsylvanian), Southwestern North Dakota, Stephen D. Sturm
Theses and Dissertations
The Tyler Formation, of Early Pennsylvanian age, in southwestern North Dakota may be divided into upper and lower units, reflecting both a change in lithology and depositional environments. The lower unit is dominated by varicolored, noncalcareous shales and mudstones, siltstones, thin coal beds, and medium-grained sandstones. The upper unit in the areas of the Square Butte to Fryburg fields may be divided into a lower subunit, dominated by dark gray to grayish-black, argillaceous limestones and calcareous shales, and an upper subunit dominated by grayish-red, anhydritic limestones, varicolored to reddish-brown, calcareous shales, and locally, thin anhydrite. In the area of the …

A Comparison Of The Effect Of The Language- Experience Approach And The Basal Approach On Reading Achievement, Larry L. Copeland
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the study was to examine and compare through objective literary research the effectiveness of the basal method versus the language experience method on reading achievement. The review of the literature covered a wide variety of sources including several books, journals, dissertations, and reports by professional organizations.
Five questions were formulated to help guide the probe through the vast amount of literature and to narrow the scope and breadth of the research report. The questions asked about the significant differences of reading achievement by: (1) method of instruction, (2) socio-cultural background, (3) sex, (4) intelligence levels, and (5) …

The Planning, Evaluation And Reporting Process: A Study Of Compliance With Accountability Legislation In Selected School Districts Of Minnesota., Robert Anthony Stepaniak
Theses and Dissertations
Eight randomly selected school districts in Minnesota were studied to evaluate the impact of the 1976 "Planning, Evaluation and Reporting" (PER) accountability law. Four districts each from two sizes of school districts (size was based on the number of central office administrators) allowed a comparison of the results from the two groups. Two major sources of data were used--written information and on site interviews with the PER coordinators of the sample districts. Two questions were answered. (1) What is the nature of the compliance and changes in the districts studied as a result of the efforts to comply with the PER …
